Who are the likely candidates.

I personally hope Nathan Jones is around at 15 but considering his grand final performance I think its unlikely.

Ryan Jackson from Northern I rate highly

thoughts????

Best available i reckon Jack.
But i have a feeling that if Shaun Higgins or Danny Stanley are still available they will take one of them coz they are local boys.

Has to be Higgins

I've been on the Shaun Higgins bandwagon for months but it's not happening boys.

Even if he's there the club is likely to overlook him :(

Whys that?
is he just not worth a pick at 15.

Apparently he's been told that we've got too many of his type already.

I hope my mail is wrong, but the source has never steered me wrong before.

Thats a fair point, so maybe we are looking at a key position players for our first pick then.

No idea what the strategy is, just know what the kid was apparently told.

I'd be taking him. You can never have enough quality midfielders, and this kid will play 200 games.

Only time will tell.
I think we may go for a KPP. We havent really had a first round KPP for a while.

I think we should get over this kid already, with Jimmy resigning, Kels, Linger, Turbo, Smithy, Enright and Prismall expected to come through next season there really isn't much need for another midfielder.

You can never have enough midfielders? Of course u can if they're gunna spend most of their time in the VFL ... to my list of young geelong middies - add Gaz Jr and Chappy rotating through -> there really isn't any point going after a midfielder.

An exciting forward pocket/flanker wouldn't go astray, Dale Thomas or Nathan Jones perhaps.

Because you just know we've got plenty of good young midfielders sitting in the VFL just waiting for a chance. :confused:

We've got the biggest senior rotation in the league, but there ain't a whole lot of depth in the VFL to call on.

This year we pretty much had Prismall, Koula and Rahilly as our depth midfielders in the VFL. You honestly think that is enough?

I don't think we need another midfielder with:

-> Ling - centresquare
-> Corey - centresquare
-> Bartel - centresquare

-> Kelly - wing
-> Turbo - wing

-> Ablett - flank/pocket
-> Chapman - flank/pocket

Others on the ground who can run in the middle include: Bomba Wojcinski, David Johnson, Rooke, Milburn and even Steve Johnson did late in the season.

Then we have Prismall and Koula also ... I think our midfield is pretty healthy to spend another first rounder on - in saying that Nathan Jones (midfielder/forward) I would be happy to take because of his versatility, and I doubt Dale Thomas will be around but if he was then take him!!!

Reading footydraft there seems to be a lot of small mids <180 this year and the rest seem to be what we already have in spades.

Would McKinley be a similar sort of player to Ryan O'Keefe or is he just an undersized full forward like Haynes at the Eagles?

Our midfield is definitely healthy, but it certainly isn't beyond topping up with some more depth.

I'm not suggesting we go out and target midfielders, but we'd be stupid to ignore midfielders totally.

BTW The Higgins thing wasn't because he was a midfielder, it was because he was too similar a midfielder to a few others. I have no doubt we'll look at some midfielders this year, just ones that add something different to what we have already.

Lance is a great sight even when he's up the other end of the ground ... i heard the other day that when ppl are in space they can see the gr8 wall of china and the barrier reef ... with that in mind i'm sure they could see lance walking at the speed of a sloth into McDonalds!

Best available ?? This is a total myth. There is no such thing because players are on rated by opinions and opinion can be swayed by favourites characteristics and needs of the list.

Anyway. My reading of our needs midyear was a backup CHB.Egan has come along and done this so now , I think we need speed in the ball movement and more talant up forward.

So the guys Ive seen that I like the look of are-
Ben Mckinnley ( a Russell Robertson type). He kicked a goal in every game he played this year in the U18's, he would give us an alterantive to be so reliant on Dog , hes that sort of player.Have a look at the way the games going and it becomes more obvious that clever half/forwards are needed.
Dale Thomas, might be gone by 15 now after his GF effort but maybe not.Is like Lappin or a Davey crumbs the ball and knows where the goals are.Can take a grab like Lappin.
Ryan Jackson, might be considered too slow but is good inside/outside, good kick etc.

Apparently a guy like Varcoe might get looked at due to speed but havent seen him play

Nathan Jones Would Be A Superb Pick Up For Us, In The Mould Of Paul Chapman, By Far B.O.G In The TAC Cup G.F In A Losing Side With 38 Possesions. Dale Thomas Would Also Be Great, I Have Played Junior Footy Against Him Since Bottom Age U/15's And He Just Seems To Keep Improvin' By Miles Each Year, In The Mould Of G.Ablett Jnr. And Would Slot Very Nicely Into HFF, Problem Is We Are So Full Of Them That We Might Even Opt To Have A Crack At Say A Trent West An Excellent Tap-Ruckman Who Was The No.1 Ruckman In Gippy Power's G.F Winning Side, Could Be A Good Option For When Kingy Pulls The Plug.

For me, I'd like to see another crumbing forward and I'm willing to risk getting a dud on the chance of something special, as we aren't really desperate for anybody. Too often when the ball hits the deck in our forward line, it gets cleared. Chapman and SJ fill that role to a degree, but someone with a bit of flair and explosive pace would be good.

That's the view I'm leaning toward taking for this draft. We do have needs, as always, but not any ones overly outstanding as previous years.

Assuming we don't go chase anyone with the picks during trade week, I'm hoping we give some thought toward guys like Beau Muston or Grae Grant.

Sketchy knowledge on both (haven't personally seen either play), but if the mail is correct, we could have ourselves bargains in either one.
