In the Herald Sun today [In the Hutchy sport column], on the bottom of page 76 was the following article:

"SOUTH Australian Jack Trengove has emerged as the youngster most likely to join Tom Scully at Melbourne.

The Demons are leading towards taking two midfielders with their first two picks in the draft despite their obvious forward-line needs.

They will opt for the best player, rather then best needed-player."

Updated Hutchy's Mistake :thumbsu:

Yes. I rather get an upcoming youngster then get someone in trade week. Whether it be Trengove or Butcher or whoever we need youngsters.

Has been shaping like this since the carnival.

Well, with all the back and forth talk of Butcher or Trengove on this board... who knew? I didn't.

And like the title says... Pick 2 Update :thumbsu:

Jackson Trengove was drafted by Port last year.

Jack Trengove is this year.

Pathetic journalism.

I only copied the article word for word, his bad not mine :p haha

Butcher kicked 2 goals today in Gippslands loss - it seems like another underwhelming performance, whilst Serhat Temel kicked 7 in a BOG performance for Calder, with versatile tall Jake Carlisle was also named in the best.

If you don't take Trengove you are mad. Just watched him dominate in the SANFL qualifying final for Sturt, his skills are so clean. Kicked 2 beautiful goals including a superb left foot snap to seemingly seal the game. Class.

Jack played for Sturt in the SANFL semi-final as a forward/mid today.

Didn't see the whole game but he was being destroyed in marking contests by his Cetrals opponent most of the time.

Did some clever stuff when he was in the middle though and lost his man for a few seconds late in the game to kick a good snap crumbing goal and put Sturt in front.

Unfortunately Sturt ended up losing the game by a kick in the last min.

I am going to disagree with this. I feel we should use our first 2 picks, 1 in the preseason draft and maybe say our 4th round pick.

We should shop around pick 18 and 34.

We have enough quality youngsters at the moment, but not enough quality in the 22-26 age group.

Tough to get quality in the 22-26 age bracket via the trade period though, particularly with 2nd and 3rd round picks.

Yeah but if its a shallow draft then take a punt on a fringe player at another club. They dont have to be super stars, just regular senior players IMO

I think the club is looking much longer term to correct this. Bailey has mentioned many times about bringing the group through together. He wants to group to play together for a long period of time and develop together. Along with the players we have retired/delisted(wheatley's 28?)
it would be a little odd to draft someone just two years younger.

I would be fully content with Scully and Trengrove (similar development to Rich but through the SANFL).

same here.

i don't think we need 22-26 yr olds. above that bracket we have junior, green and bruce, all good leaders for the next 1-4 yrs. from 22-26 we have guys like mclean, sylvia, davey, moloney, rivers, and a bunch of guys such as bate, frawley etc coming through in the next 2 years. if we can keep those guys fit and healthy over the next 2 years they are more than capable of leading the youngsters in the right direction.

If Hutchy said it, it must be true!

But in all seriousness welcome Jack. By all reports Butcher has been caught up to with by the rest of the kids his age.

Jeez hes been in the box seat for nearly 3 months.. and he spells his name wrong.

Theres plenty to work with in Carlisle. His skills are very good and he takes the balls with cleanly. I know PB will like his decision making and if he gets some muscle on him.. I think he could slide and given he's something like 196cm, could be an excellent compliment to Watts.

He's versatile too - ie/ FF/CHF and defensive if required.

Anthony Morabito,is he still on the radar for pick 2?

Probably. The decision the club will need to make is whether they're comfortable taking a player who's got the ability and attitude to at the very least be very very good in Trengove or a player who's got question makes over his application but the potential to be an absolute superstar in Morabito.

The impression I get is that the club are leaning towards the surer thing in Trengove but draft camp could change all that.

Personally, at this stage im in the Trengove boat. Aside from being an excellent footballer he comes with a great attitude, is apparently a great professional around the club, has played senior football (so is more likely to make the step to AFL quickly) is the state captain and apparently really comes to the fore when the games in the balance. That's ticking a lot the 'intangible' boxes that I'd like to see more of at Melbourne.

It was a very nice and easy kick around the corner. I was going to ask if Trengove actually is a left footer but by the way you have referenced it it sounds like he is a right footer with a good left. If he is a genuine 2 sided player then he has gone up in my estimates.

Scully/Trengove/Carslile (hopefully can slip to 18) is the combo im after these days, it would pretty much finalise our side, the only question mark MAY be our rucks but hopefully Jamar, Meeson and Martin can step up like we all hope they do.
