umm i beg to differ, CHF wing area is where we have failed to punch past with explosive quick delivery, if we had lucas on one side and tarrant on the other it would make it a lot easier for our backmen to kick to a leading target. It would also stretch opposition backmen.

I wouldnt use him as and inside 50 forward that would be disastrous, id use him as a hff extra midfielder type.

Won't we be able to do that by playing one of Lloyd or Johns higher up the ground?

stander said:
Don't be mislead, Lloyd is a full forward, leave him there.

Mislead by what?

He often pushes up the ground. Was our leading kick getter in 2000, he didn't do all of that from the goalsquare.

If we can exploit a match-up, Lloyd will move away from FF.

FF is his best position, but that's not to say he can't be valuable up the ground at times.

I really don't believe what I read on here sometimes.

We've got more tall forwards and rucks than you can poke a stick at, which with the new kick-out structures is basically more of a liability than anything else these days.

And we want to recruit more ?????

Have a look at the grand finalists.
They've got one tall key forward each (Hall & Lynch) and 5 half forward flanker/wingman type players surrounding them.

Carlton & Essendon have both made the mistake of drafting and playing talls in recent seasons and are paying the penalty now. No co-incidence that both coaches are the two oldest in the AFL..

We don't need another tall forward.
We don't need a centre half back - for the simple reason that there are generally no centre half forwards anymore.

Its time to wake up, think 5-10 years into the future and envisage what football will be like then.
One thing is guaranteed. It certainly isn't going to get any slower.

Others. No need to push up the ground with Lucas. He also kicked over 100 in 2000. You don't need to stand in the goal square to be a full forward.

Yes,i agree. Hopefully we will see Lloydy kick a bag full from FF and also see him run around the wings taking marks and pumping it down to the goal square to Johns,Scotty OR have MJ in there as well.

yeah but they dont have the aerobic capacity of tarrant, there strength is there marking ability and johns's role will be his physical prowess. tarrant is faster then people think and would create a nightmare for opposition coaches to match him and lucas up on opposing hff's.

some richmond moron has posted a thread in drafts and trading that essendon has agreed to trade for a star collingwood player, but wont tell whom apart from us trying to draft him for the last few years.

That is a very well thought out reply and certainly is good food for thought.
I disagree on the not needing a CHB and there are many good CHF in the caper, like J.Brown, S.Lucas, N.Reiwoldt, B.Hall(sometimes), L.Franklin etc

A really good CHB can stop many attacks and launch many at the same time.
Other than that very thought provocing.

If Laycock walks out and Carts get de-listed how many rucks do we have then?

If Laycock walks, which i doubt he will, Carts probably won't get delisted.
Unless they have the intention of drafting another ruckman in the PSD.

Besides Brown, how many of these players take contested marks ?

Look who the AA CHB was this season ?
You might diagree with the selection but it just goes to show how irrelevant they are in modern football these days.

Exectly, gun CHF's dont have to be stopped or beaten, as long as you can keep matchwinners to a minimum or keep them to a quiet day, it goes a long way towards winning

I actually think tarrant could play CHB for us, why not??? he has the marking capability he could run with any player and he wouldn't be kicking for goal. I agree we need another backman i wish trade week came sooner. But usually its a huge let down anyway.

The crap suggestions that get thrown around! Next someone will post that Ted Richards should be traded back so he can fill our CHB problems!!!!!

Firstly, let me say that i do not want Tarrant and i think most people are starting to get the jist of who i want :D

BUT, It would be very short sighted to suggest Tarrant could not play CHB and i would be willing to bet he would make an excellent CHB.
He is tall, quick and his disposal, when not kicking at goals, is usually very good.
He would have an understanding of how forwards play, when they lead, where they lead etc etc, it's a very open minded suggestion and one i hope Essendon at least consider.

Wonder why Collingwood never have, unless they know something we don't, not that they really need a CHB

Tarrant is a slacker.Talk to any non-feral Collingwood fan and they will tell u he is weak minded and can't focus fully for a whole game.Wasn't he supposed to be the next super star of pie land after those 2 GFs? He has gone down hill from there and he is the last player i would want at Essendon.

I actually think a CHB would serve us well...we get stretched quite as it is once they load up their forward lines with capable talls. Fletcher, as has been pointed out, sits in the goal square minding the opposing FF. We're pretty light on in the back half with the likes of a two pronged attack...ie Bradshaw/Brown, Hall/O'Loughlin, Lynch/Hansen/Seaby, Gehrig/Riewoldt/Hamill. Imagine we had to hold down Lloyd/Lucas/Johns...we'd be in a world of trouble Id imagine.

see i can handle that sought of debate better and i wont call you nob because of it.

is he really a slacker though, it has a lot to do with the delivery that comes into him and the type of injuries he gets lie shin soreness which doesnt help when he continually jumps into packs. if he was freed up and played at chb he has said he wants a midfield role like kouta had i think it would be great.

people judge tarrant on being a FF, he is not a FF or CHF he is a linkman. the reason they havnt tried him down back is because they dont have anyone else that could kick a bag of goals apart from him and Rocca. I think Sheeds would get the best out of him, i honestly do.

You'd have to agree that if there was any hint of Taz coming to Essendon, we would have to relinquish one of our tall forwards. I say this is if he were to be used as linkman/backman and failed...his bread n butter is as a forward, which would mean he'd have to justify his selection to the Essendon faithful and fast. He has talent, but his application is questionable to my liking.

Bradshaw/Brown - fair enough.
Hall/O'Loughlin - O'Loughlin is hardly a CHF
Hansen is a roaming HFF type - great player but to play a power CHB on him would be extremely foolish.
Seaby comes off the bench.
Riewoldt - see Hansen
Hamill - now a cripple and is basically there to create a contest.

So we draft a CHB to basically play against one team (Brisbane).
Not very smart.

And just to illustrate the foolishness.

If you could choose any CHB in the league, who would you choose ?
Now ask yourself, would you swap the No 2 pick for that player ?
