Paranoia over go home factor particularly with western Australian's is ridiculous. If Curtin is there you take him. If he wants to leave in the future then you probably get more value for him anyway. The thing is if he wants to leave in the future, I would be more worried about the clubs ability to retain players. To be honest I doubt he slides to Melbourne anyway.

So Curtin is far ahead on the votes. Let's assume he does slide past Nth, WB, and Haw to us at 6; WCE offer us F1 and 23 for him.

Do we take Curtin regardless? I don't know enough about next years prospects to decide.
It all depends on how you rate Curtin.

Initially I was supportive of the idea but having thought about it a bit more I would just take Curtin.

Even if WCE finish last or second last next year, I don’t think we would be guaranteed a better player than Curtin.

This Curtin obsession is getting out of control.

Let's look at 21 years of pick 6:

2000: Dylan Smith (North Melbourne)
2001: Ashley Sampi (West Coast)
2002: Steven Salopek (Port Adelaide)
2003: Kepler Bradley (Essendon)
2004: Tom Williams (Western Bulldogs)
2005: Beau Dowler (Hawthorn)
2006: Mitch Thorp (Hawthorn)
2007: David Myers (Essendon)
2008: Chris Yarran (Carlton)
2009: Gary Rohan (Sydney)
2010: Reece Conca (Richmond)
2011: Chad Wingard (Port Adelaide)
2012: Jack Macrae (Western Bulldogs)
2013: Matthew Scharenberg (Collingwood)
2014: Caleb Marchbank (GWS)
2015: Aaron Francis (Essendon)
2016: Sam Petrevski-Seton (Carlton)
2017: Jaidyn Stephenson (Collingwood)
2018 Ben King (Gold Coast)
2019: Fischer McAsey (Adelaide)
2020: Denver Granger-Barrass (Hawks)

Whether it be form, injury, off-field issues, or simply not being good enough 17 of these 21 picks have been busts. That's a 81% failure rate. So under no circumstances do we HAVE to take anyone.

I hate this argument. The history of the pick itself has absolutely no relevance. There would have been good players available to be picked around the mark in every single one of those years.

It's like saying you'd rather have pick 13 than pick 1 because historically it's been more reliable or something.

and? I'm pretty sure most of the time it's been to temper expectations. People completely overestimating the draft. Even if pick 7 or pick 8 etc. it's a 50% bust rate.
So what are you actually suggesting? We trade pick 6 for a future pick that will likely have a similar bust rate?

We should pass on all our picks to save ourselves the embarrassment of drafting a potential bust.

No. I'm just saying we need to stop talking like we know which kids will bust and which ones will not. No-one knows.
I'd argue that there's a few people who are paid to make pretty well-educated guesses.

Also, this is exactly what you've been doing with Curtin and Sanders, isn't it?

I just showed a 21 year history of pick 6's with an 80% bust rate. All from clubs with full time recruiting teams. Why is this year different?

No. I haven't been saying that. I personally don't see it with Curtin or Sanders but I could absolutely be wrong and I'll always back in full timer recruiting teams. So I've never say 'we must take ...insert name'. It's such a lottery.

One thing I’ll say about Curtin is that irrespective of his footballing ability, he is going to be one big unit.

Has a huge frame and really long arm span. At 197cm and potentially still growing, after some years in the gym he’s going to be a very big boy.

Poor Jefferson, already forgotten and cast aside by danster for a new 18 year old key forward.

Danster by the end of the year if Jeffo is still playing magoo's

This is getting very mores-esque:

"Why don't we just wait for draft night to see what decision we make."

At this point I'd suggest just excusing yourself from the conversation if you're that adverse to people having an opinion.

I don't think there is a Curtin obsession, there is a consensus amongst the experts that he is one of the best draft picks. Makes sense that most people would want Curtin if he slipped through to pick six.

To me trading a certain pick 6 for a future f1 pick which is unknown and could end up pick 6 regardless (or higher) doesn't make any sense. Just feels like we've wasted time.
