He's not my first choice (or top three), but I can understand why. Both Western Bulldogs and Sydney very keen. Bulldogs weighing up whether to take him with #9 because Sydney have reportedly "committed" to him if he's there at #14. One of the Sandy coaches thinks he will be a Saint with one of their picks, particularly if we pick a player they were considering.

I would rather take best available with #6 (which obviously differs in opinion, mine is Coffield, KM is Fogarty, others are Stephenson etc.) then do a "Hine" with #38. Doing the BF Phantom Draft today, I picked Jordon Butts and it reminded me of when one of our scouts (AFLDC) said a Pies scout was scribbling down "absolutely everything" Jordon Butts was doing during a game. If we were to take a Hine special, I would rather it be Butts at #38 (which is high, but he has a lot of future scope) than take a punt at #6).

The Murphy to Pies rumour came about from the player management side rather than the football club side though. Pies clearly keen, but whether or not they take him at #6, I'm not sure. Usually by draft night we're 95% sure who they take, especially if one pick goes a certain way that was a 50/50 pick. That might be Freo in this instance. Once it drops, you can pretty much expect the next handful of picks to fall a certain way.

Depends what for. Trading 1 to Fix a Gapping Hole in the List I can live with not just for yet another Similar Type of Player

Depends if Schache plugs that hole or whether McLarty Moore and hopefully pick 6 this year and/or Lynch or another traded kpp player next year is a better option.

(personally I would have thought an x factor player like WHE also plugs a hole)

Yeah bit of a surprise. Still will be. He will probably be picked ahead of a few, Naish and Shipley come to mind and certainly I expect in the teens. What it tells you is that he won't get taken in the top 10. Everyone else bar Shipley (NSW/ACT) is an outside chance. But it's also about getting a player in your team's jumper on the night so the individual club can do media stuff. Most clubs have a top 20 pick, there's four I think that don't, so chances are you'll have a player in your jumper on the night.

Yeah I know it's 0% chance. I just read he grew up as a Pies supporter so maybe Brisbane can pick him up and we can get him in 2 years.
