Some of the deeper picks like Petty, Wooler look quite nice.

I'm with Snoop Dog regarding taking best mid available. Cerra, Stephenson whoever it may be. Got to go midfield class that early. Sort the defenders out later on at 38ish

Why do you think Naughton is the best pick for us at 6, Dave? What has he got that others have not got that we most need?

Tall and We have a Real Lack of Them.

I have about 4 or 5 we could Pick at 6 I would not Complain about

As a novice on the kids could you give me a three word summary on all these players?

(and secondly a confidence level on landing Petty and Wooler given its a lottery mid draft)
Cerra - potentially elite mid
Petty - intercepting key defender
Wooller - Darcy Fogarty lite
Brown - Rowdy jr jr

Honestly my confidence on landing both Petty and Wooller isn’t high, most phantoms have one or both going before 38, but this has gone from being a shallow draft to one of reasonable depth with quite a few names bolting up the boards. It feels like anything could happen.

You mean, we will sift through the leftover crap for the least ordinary tall player left? Yeah that will really add to the quality of our big guys down back. Season 2018 and beyond! - bring them on!

There should be at least one of Petty, Taylor or Clavarino available at 38, as well as Butts, who by the numbers has been quite underrated up to now. Confident of getting quite a decent KPD at 38 tbh.

We really want a CHF rather than a key defender, don't we, given that McLarty will soon be ready to strut his stuff down back? Though I guess Goldsack is not going to hold down a KPD spot forever. Are any of these KPD hopefuls capable of playing forward?

Yep. KPF is a Bigger Need then KPD. Brander seems to be the Best KPF Prospect but Rating has taken a Huge Dive since the All-Star Game and Combine

I am just off doing a bit of research as you speak. Boning up on the big boys with AFL potential. I'll get back to you. :)

We already have a CHF in Moore. Ideally we want a FF but there doesn’t seem to be a standout KPF in the top 10 of this draft and as a general rule it’s much harder to find one of quality outside the top 20.
You need to remember that both Goldsack and Dunn are on the wrong side of 30. McLarty might be able to step in to the breach sometime in 2018 but in all likelihood won’t be best 22 until at least 2019, and any KPD we take this year outside of Naughton will likely take 2-3 years to establish themselves too. Another KPD is just as big of a need as another KPF, maybe moreso given the age of our current ones.

I would be genuinely gobsmacked if Wooller was around at our mid 50s. Hell, I don't expect him to be there at #38. Even Petty I feel might be gone by then. But hey, one can dream!

Good Talls don't last long in the Draft

I agree, I was a bit lazy in how I portrayed that a bit further above! I think there'll be a decent option at 38

Unless someone tells me Naughton can become Rance-like in the years to come then IMO we should be looking for a midfield jet

Some People have said Naughton has Potential of being like Rance

And I would be happy to believe it TradeDraft, I'm talking in general terms about taking a mid early on. As much as I enjoy reading the profiles and viewing footage of these kids there is a reason I am typing this now and not striking lines through names on a whiteboard in the war room at the Holden Centre!

Fogarty seems promising. 'Powerful and athletic. Injury riddled', just the way we like them. We don't want the other Fogarty in the draft, unless we want to add to our midget brigade.

And what's wrong with Balta? Knightmare makes him sound the perfect get: 'Freakishly athletic key position player. Breaks the lines, possesses rare cleanness at ground level and is a strong mark who will take front position in the contest.' Or he is better on paper than he is in on the field? Having Noah for a christian name shouldn't hurt his chances.

Brander could be a bit of a stretch at 6, but does appear one of the better forward prospects.

Naughton sounds alright, but should the 'go home factor' eliminate him from contention? Will he be able to leave behind him friends and family in WA? We haven't had a lot of luck with the sickness for home of some of our WA boys.

Or do we forget these KPPs and focus on the tall players that Apex36 thinks will be around at pick 38, like Petty and Taylor (should he slip through to us), taking best available at 6? Luke Davies-Uniacke has an almost unpronounceable name, and won't be around at 6, so let's discount him. Cerra seems to have suffered more than his fair share of injuries, so like Fogarty, would feel at home on our list. I will refrain from saying the obvious about Bonar.
