Don't worry, we're getting your mate anyway
PICK 6: COLLINGWOOD — DARCY FOGARTY
Clubs: Glenelg/South Australia
Position: Utility
Size: 192cm, 92kg
Bio: It’s been a strange season for Fogarty. He was thrown around a bit earlier in the year, playing forward, midfield and behind the ball, but he never really got going in any particular position. It’s since been revealed he was battling a knee injury throughout, with surgery ruling him out for the remainder of the season. He remains one of the draft’s most highly rated prospects, able to win the contested ball and penetrate with his kicking. But he simply hasn’t been able to put it together this year. You’re drafting him on potential. And he’s got plenty of it — even though it’s not clear where his best position is.
Why: Fogarty is in contention to go as high as Pick 4, where North Melbourne will consider him. But if the South Australian is still available here, it would be hard for Collingwood to bypass him. There’s reports Ed Richards is in their sights, while the Pies would love for a midfielder to slip from the top five. Don’t expect them to take a key-position player this early.

When you look at Bonars highlights they are dam good, marks at the highest point, good leads, very good ground game and good pace, with class above most of the others, but it is as you say a hell of a risk.I've cooled a lot on Fogarty. For a guy we want as a tall forward he doesn't seem to have a very good forward craft. I like to see players with different avenues to goal. You don't see him making good leads. You don't see him kicking lots of goals from ground level. He fights hard for the ball at ground level, has a decent sidestep, but basically bullocks over players by drawing tackles and releasing hand passes. He gets compared to Stringer but he just doesn't have the bag of tricks for that to fly for mine. I'm not sure that cuts it at AFL level? Or am I missing something?
My initial assessment of Fogarty was he looked a great third tall in defence because he reads the incoming ball well and looks a marking presence in that role which he doesn't as a forward. Which is a good combo with his other qualities (speed, attack on the ball, kicking) in that role. I also like his attributes for midfield if he can get his endurance up which I think would take a few preseasons, which is fine.
If we're to gamble on a tall forward at 6 I reckon Bonar has a lot more going for him in terms of playing qualities for the role. But it'd be a hell of a risk.

But no risk, no rewards. But l think the club will play it safe with either one of the kids that fall or Naughton.
Naughton chb, Reid’s replacement and Mcclarty is Dunn’s replacement at fb to me.If we get Naughton.. where does McLarty fit in?
I for one would like to see Dunn gone.. so can Naughton slot into Dunn's role.. or is that McLarty's. Is Naughton more of a Reid type?
Well.. question directed at anyone.. not just yourself.
If Naughton is good to go.. we can look at Reid as more of a permanent fixture up front. Although I don't think he's the answer as a kpf.. better than anyone else we've got.
Not Really but he puts lot of Pressure to take the Mark as they Crunched with how long it takes him to Short Kick it

This is where I’m at too, Cerra/Brayshaw or Naughton.Of all the guys linked to us he’s the one that makes the most sense and unless Cerra slides (unlikely) I’d be locking him in. I’ve settled on them two personally because Cerra is the most likely drifter from the top 5 and Naughton’s issues are the most “developmental” out of the guys that are in the frame, IMO.
Yah l don’t mind the fog as well. It will depends if Hine takes a risk or not.I think the choice of either Naughton or Fogarty will help balance the side. I'd be happy with either one of em.
But for sheer mystery.. something that will get me excited over the summer leading into March.. I have only one on my mind.. Fogarty!
Not very excited about taking Richards at 6....

Current mail, or still as of last week mate?Type of player you take when you have 2 top 10 draft picks..
*cough... saints... cough*
That's disappointing. In hindsight we would have been better to trade out 6 to Richmond or Brisbane for their two later first round picks.
Could have had a combo of 2 good players (best available and then a needs pick) now we have to settle for one we don't rate that highly.
I suppose at the end of the day even if our top 5 list get read out 1 to 5 on draft night we just take the 6th name on our list.
Would help us greatly if Fogarty or Stephenson still go top 5; we may still get our guy.

Don't worry, we're getting your mate anyway
