Pie Player with the Biggest Upside

I am not talking what they are Now, I am talking how good they are.

I give 2 players.

Jarrad Blight:
I see massive upside for Blight as a Versatile player who could just about play any Postion Except Ruckman. He reminds me of Adam Goodes with His Speed and Leap. Just Needs to put on the Strength.

Brad Dick:
His upside is also Huge, Just had to see him in Full Flight. Best Example was his 5 Goals against the DEES where he showed he can take a Mark with a Big Vertical Leap and can get to the Right Spot and Crumb it. Reckon he is just as good as Cyril Rioli.

Agree on Jarrad Blight.

Underage kid who is, reportedly, the prototype of the modern day footballer.

Gee, I hope he doesn't get home sick.

Probably Thomas still.

Has so much more to give, and I think he will.

Agree on both your comments on blight and dicky :D it's a big call that dicky is just as good as cyril but I tend to agree. Everyone carries on when cyril gets 10 disposals but dicky gets about the same if not more disposals and no one says boo :( blight really excites me on what he could be still can't work out how he slipped so far.he has a penetrating kick and is courageous when running back with the flight of the ball. As someone else said hope he doesn't wanna go back to WA after we put all the hard work into him. Also think Reidy has enormous upside if he gets games in the backline :p :D

IMO I nominate Harry O. He's smoothly moved from good stopper to athletic rebounder and is ready to step up to be a genuine playmaker.

And then there's Beamsy - the younger shorter Pendlebury

Jarrad Blight for me, simply because of the early wraps on him and for his run and goal in one of the VFL Finals. He needs to put on weight and muscle, but he will soon be breathing down the likes of Toovey's neck, and I mean no disrespect to Toovey in stating this.

Dawes is one I guess I have to mention. If he can improve his timing for leads and get his overhead marking together, he could be a queue jumper, along with Reid, next year.

Dick looks good when the ball is placed wide of him, but I worry about him one on one. Weight is his major problem, and he looks like the type of guy who will never put much on. He may need a couple more years in the system. Already, he is more consistent than Davis was in his early years.

Beams and Sidebottom showed so much in their first year that we may expect too much from them next year.

McCarthy could have much more to offer if he does a full pre-season. He was amassing numerous possessions in his few VFL games, and had a significant influence in the outcome of one of those games.

The way I am going, I reckon even Leroy Brown could make my list. Enough!

I had Cox at the top of my list but he mysteriously retired! That leaves only two male appendages on our list - Dick and Kintama ('Golden balls' in Japanese, an expression that used to get my Japanese housewives class giggling and blushing). Still, the two together seem to provide us with the full unit.

The Sack, could in fact, have some upside.

Maybe even Cook.

Or perhaps Stanley will be thrown a lifeline, which he will grasp with eager abandon, then seize a prime position in the engine room, thriving in the grime and grit and grunt of it all.

November presents so many possibilities and options!

It just has to be Steele Sidebottom. He showed so much upside this year. Great movement, ability to find space, composure, feet, marking... just everything. I think he will be a big big thing for Collingwood.

i agree, could be anything i reckon, composed, good skills, played well in the Adelaide final, also played well in his underage grand final so he's a big game player as well, i just cant believe how he slipped to us, a friend of mine (he's over 70 and doesnt talk shit) knows the father of one of his team mates in the under 18 comp, he said the 10 goals was flattering as the game was dusted at halftime and all the players were instructed to make sure sidebottom kicked 10, still an awesome effort and i told the bloke (my mate) that would happen in any game at any level.

I tend to agree with the Jarrad Blight calls. I loved watching him in the VFL last season. He seems to do everything well. He just needs to get the ball more and he'll be a gun!

Are you suggesting a little bit of homo-erotic relations?

Nice list btw. :thumbsu:

Well you did get that Feeling when the game was Done everyone was Helping Steele, But he still had to Kick them and Keep is Composure

I'd say probably Ben Reid given he's a young tall who was drafted at a very early age - was the youngest player on any AFL list in his first year in fact.

He's still growing into his body but with his size & athleticism he has great scope for improvement. Had a very good year in the VFL (averaged approx 21 disposals for the year at CHB) and should be ready to have an impact in the AFL next year, but if he fulfils his potential he has the ability to be a top player in 3-4 years.

I think that Beams has a next level which we have not seen yet. His suicidal attack on the ball cannot be taught, his goal-kicking ability added to a bigger tank will see him become far more consistant and begin to dominate clearances.

Still hold out a lot of hopes for Thomas taking his game to the elite level also..

They say that Beams will add more depth to his kicking through strengthening his legs.

rusling would have to have a huge upside.. but, JA for mine is one who could end up being an absolute gem, needs some more size and strength and needs to learn better positioning and leading.. if he can do this we will have a 80-100 goal a year forward on our hands...

huge upside...
sidey
beamer
reid
jmac
pendles - still think this guy can get to another level.. and will
dick
mcaffer
thomas - i dont think we have anything close to his best yet, but will need to start showing more this year if he is to become a star and not just a good player..

future is looking great at pie land

Got to be Blight, I reckon. He has a lot of tools, and I can't wait for him to get the chance to show them all.

Speed - check.
Endurance - check.
Courage - check.
Dash / offensive running - check.
Arial ability - check.
Footskills - check.
Height - check.

Could turn into a Goddard-style offensive half back who gets third man up.

I also agree with Thomas... If he can get his act together, he could be a good reasonably dominant player. He seems to be at that stalled stage where Ablett was before he started to put it all together in 07... Would love for THomas to take his game to the next increment like we all know he can (and like Pendles did this year).

Surprised no one has sggested Blair. This rookie will do great things I'm sure, maybe even be a star some day.

Cyril Rioli is a freak. He's a mini Buddy Franklin. Dick is nowhere near as talented.

Everyone knows we overrate our own though.

I'd say Beams is the one that I have the most hope for. I see a more skilled version of Scott Burns down the line.

Sidebottom is not inside nor outside enough to show me that he is gonna be a top player. Plus other issues I have with him ability wise.

I haven't seen enough of Blight. I find the Goodes comparisons hard to believe though. Likely more blinkered evaluation.
