Well it'll still be easier for Spencer to pass Meesen than for Jacobs to pass Hampson IMO.

Not if this thread is to be believed.

Jacobs has been impressive throughout the preseason. While Hampson has a lot more upside, he's also is very raw. Jacobs is probably our best tap ruckman this season and if he's elevated, I wouldn't be at all surprised if he lines up round one.

Masten vs Winderlich
both coming off injury last year and sounds like both have been going well in the pre season with pretty good scores.

I know exactly who youre talking about ;)

Could be an excellent option but imo I cant really see him doing enough to be a keeper, especially when Houlihan at a slightly higher price has the potential to do so. If you are excited by his (your 200-250k pick) last NAB challenge score in the Freako email, dont be. He essentially played against Coburg.

But are you crazy for not having Grimes/Hill as your 7th back? Absolutely not. Dont get me wrong, I jumped right on Grimes after his massive NAB performance. But he didnt play last week and was left out this week because of "soreness". In my eyes this doesnt bode too well for his chances of playing consecutive games week in week out this season.

Re: the 200-250k pick. I had my eyes on him a couple of weeks before the most recent Freako email. Unfortunately there's barely any talk about him anywhere, which made me doubt me decision. Then he got an average score in the 2nd round NAB, and an excellent score in the 3rd round. I don't see him as a keeper, but then I already have 4 premiums, Houlihan and Raines in the backline. It's a toss-up between him, Hill, Grimes and Collier for my last spot - If I get Grimes, I'd really be needing Hill as backup on the bench because I'm not as convinced about them all. After last years woes in the backline, I'm looking for a bit more stability. After all, I did have Proud, SDT and Selwood and barely any of those played! Only problem with 200-250k pick, could he be considered a cash cow? I guess i'm just wary of the lack of rookies and downgrade targets in the backs.

What do you think? I would go for either Tuck or Gibbs personally, but you should have your own opinions too.

Ablett + Bruce +17k vs Corey + Swan

Ive only got $100 spare at the moment, so im trying to free up some cash. With Hunts injury, im unsure about how this will affect Coreys scoring. Ablett will be resting up forward this year, which could help increase his scoring (if thats possible).

Bruce is a bit sketchier, but if you take out his first 3-4 games (he was playing as a tagger then) he averaged over 100 for the season. If Bruce continues to play on a wing or through the middle I think he can do it again.

Thoughts?

He would be the obvious replacement/elevation for Warnock wouldn't he. Personally I've got my eye on a couple of the Swans rookies, they have Jolly then past that no other recognised ruckman (sure Goodes/LRT/Richards) can pinch-hit but if they follow most clubs leads and play 2 recognised ruckman this year there could be some value there.

Otten vs Beams vs L Anthony vs Robinson for mids bench positions?

My current thoughts are that Otten is the most likely to play the most games in the first half of the season, but Anthony has the highest scoring potential.

Over the whole season Robinson & Beams could play the most games. They have similar scoring potential IMO. What do you think?

ok a couple more for you wizzes out there...

stokes vs davis

Ttuck vs Grigg (if fit) vs haselby OR even go down to sam butler...

Johnson vs. Chapman is an easy decision. If you're a gambling man, go Chapman and take the risk he'll go down. If you'd rather play it safe, pick Johnson and enjoy your guaranteed 92-95 points per week. For the record, I've got Chapman.

Ttuck vs Grigg (if fit) vs haselby OR even go down to sam butler...

I've got all three of them.

Ok just some rookie questions.

Starting Ziebell in the forwards, with 2 gumbleton & walker on the bench. But this leaves me with 50k that isnt really going anywhere except for later trades. Is it worth upgrade gumble to sidebottom, hentshcel or Yarran with the extra money??

So for my bench
Gumbleton + walker ($50k)
VS
Sidebottom/Hentshcel/Yarran + walker. ($27k-$7k)

Id say Yarran + Walker

Gumby injury prone, which will be even more costly to a rookie - say he has a game under 10, you will really miss out on a lot of cash.

My own question...

Gibbs + Pav OR Bartel + T. Cloke?

Exactly what i wa leaning towards :)

Depends on what you forward/midfield looks like. I'd pick Bartel for a solid captain pick if you have no one else in mind. But gibbs + pav if you have say cox or ablett or anyone your comfortable to give the captain to for the first few rounds.

I'd lean towards Gibbs+Pav tho.

Coming close to a final copy now. My quandry is a 2nd ruck, 4th defender combo. Here are the options i'm considering:

211 (Sandilands) and Mundy
- Durable combo. Taking one or two risks in the back (like most) and like the idea of a durable member who is looking at a change of role into the midfield.

Ottens and Defender >354,100
- Liked the look of Ottens as a leading forward and tap ruckman on Friday night. Showed good speed and presence. Issue with the defender here is that the best options (Birchall, Gram are injured). McPhee has been bandied around but was generally rubbish last year and burnt me considerably. Perhaps Scott Stevens??

Thoughts?

I've got Ablett + Bruce as my top 2 mids atm. I brought up Bruce during the week in the player discussion thread but not many people replied. I think with more young talent fighting for spots in our backline this year, Bruce will get used as a full time mid who rests forward. The reason he had a few lower scores last year is as you said, he played as a tagger, or deep in defence on Brad Johnson etc. I dont see that happening this year, and I expect him to average over 100. Seems a unique pick too, so could be a great pick!

Yeah, your post was what made me think of him. My brothers a mad Dees supporter too, so always had a soft spot for Bruta. My only concern would be his age, but from all accounts he has had a great pre-season so it might not be a problem.

New one:

Petrie + Grimes + Hogan/86k rook vs Simmonds + Collier + Rich

Going the second option leaves me with no cash, but I wouldnt have any starters below ~125k. Means I dont have to worry about cash if I need to trade a Josh Hill type bolter in. Im expecting big things from Petrie this year though, so thats a down. Rich should play games, regardless of what BF Lions supporters say.

n.krakouer at 189k or lucas at 220k odd?

and in the midfield, troy selwood at 235k or skipworth 198k taking into account selwood 92 and 70 in pre-season maybe set loose?

Not sure if Selwood is guaranteed a game at the moment. Turning into a fringe player. I would go Krak in the first option, should find a heap of the pill. Lucas has been looking pretty ordinary.

Ablett + Newman vs Corey + McMahon

Not sure on this one. Ablett looks a class above already, and if he rests up forward rather than off-field his average could rise again. On the other hand, McMahon is the go-to guy in Richmonds backline - stat heaven. Corey is mr consistent, but might be spending more time of the half-back flank (not sure if thats bad or not though).

Any feedback on the players above?

Thanks in advance.

I read in the herald sun that Cox will go into round one with a borken cheek bone. Will this see him play, but at reduced capacicity until he finally gives in and has surgery later in the season (leaving me $150k worse off at that time due to him carrying this injury?)

Are people getting off hime because of this news? if so, for who? Hille or Symonds?

PS - any word on how bad the injury to Suban is?

Ok my team is all sorted looks great and i love it except for my forward line, i have a great forward line and then i hav ballantyne, walker, ziebell and gumbleton. Do u think i will be safe rotating these players for the year until i can up grade to others or do i need to downgrade another player to someone like john anthony, hayden skipworth or scott lucas?

Cox played the majority of last year with a broken FOOT and produced his finest year on record. If the cheekbone was going to be an issue, they would have had surgery already.

From what I heard Suban got injured in the 3rd quarter and returned in the 4th. Can't have been too major hopefully?
