Adelaide Crows
Certainties -
Ben Marsh
Hayden Skipworth
Laurence Angwin

Chance to go?
Robert Shirley
Daniel Schell???
Ian Perrie???
Bryan Beinke

Players to be elevated -
Mattner
Rutten??

Next year I expect

IN: Carey, 3 draft pick players, Mattner, Rutten
OUT: Angwin, Marsh, Skipworth, Perrie, Shirley

If we say pick up Torney, I think Hewitt or even Fitzgerald could be in trouble to get the chop.

Some bloke called Shir was mentioned in Melbourne papers as a possible trade for the great one.

Who is he?

To be delisted/traded: Schell,Angwin,Perrie,Marsh possibly Shirley,Hewitt and Fitzgerald.

New players:Carey,Mattner and Torney

Hopefully it wont cost us Johnson to get Carey but that is a possiblity:( Torney will probably be only a third or fourth round draft pick as the tigers cant afford to have anyone to expensive due to salary cap problems.

Someone who is worth about 10% of Wayne Carey. I wouldn't bother finding too much about him because there is no way you guys will take him for Carey, unless he is a bit of a sweetner to the main part of the deal.

If he doesn't get traded he will be lucky if he doesn't get delisted.

Not a bad player, but just a run of the mill midfielder/defender.

Sounds like the kind of player we get (Calthorpe, Olarenshaw)...

Shir is a player worth keeping if not involved in a trade IMO. Hes got good disposal and can find the ball. Hes very lightweight. If I remember correctly he stepped up admirably against the Saints this year when we were short of midfielders, and played a decent game against Geelong. However, he will never amount to anything mroe than a preety good role player.

Thanks for that.

Anyone seen Reilly play?

What about Michael Handby?

I would've thought he would be considered a delisting possibility.

I think the question is who will be delisted if not traded.

Marsh we will try & trade - & getting anything for him (like D Gallagher) will be a bonus. Skipworth has been playing good footy for the Eagles & is still young. Reckon he will be given at least another year to develop as he age on his side. Should be able to trade Angwin, but have buckleys of getting our 1st round pick back for him.

Shirley is a useful player, but Mattner is a better prospect, so IMO he will be delisted. Don't think anyone will take Schell, so he is safe as I think he is contracted for 2003 (I think Fitzy was also on a 2 year deal). With Carey & the elevation of Rutten, we will probably trade either Perrie or Hewitt. Beinke may be in a bit of danger of being delisted.

I agree with you elevation of rookies.

Reckon Shir may be due for a trade. Nelson & Handby are other players in danger of being delisted.

What should we be looking for (apart from Carey)? IMO, another tall defender - wonder what Port would want for either Thurstans or S Bassett? We should be drafting a young ruckman given that Marsh & Angwin are unlikely to be on the list in 2003.

Exactly. If we trade Angwin and Marsh we will need two ruckmen.
Clarke is 29 so will need some youngblood in the ruck dept. We've also been very luck with injuries this year. We may not be so lucky next year, so having 2 blokes to back up Biglands and Clarke would be a good move.

I agree with Rutten and Mattner being included in the squad. Another big key position player - especially a defender who could compete with an A Lynch for instance - would help as well. Matt Smith should be aiming to get some AFL games next year too. Hentschel's display yesterday was a good start for his 2003 campaign.

I'm really keen to see us improve our big man depth. If you look at our premiership sides compared to our current one squad - yes, we have still retained our midfield talent and some great defenders (Hart, Smart). However our key position players - Rehn, Jarman, Caven & Pittman in defence and Robran in attack have gone.

Biglands, Clarke, Stevens and Bassett do a fantastic job, but they need help.

Shir and Handby have been around for a while and would be used as trade bait. Handby has been unlucky not to get a game this year. Beinke, Perrie, Hewitt and Shirley would also be considered to be traded or delisted.

Yes I have.

I have seen him in a reserves game for Sturt.

He has excellent disposal and can kick a good long goal.

In his only AFL game he seeemed really out of his depth but the Crows have very big wraps on him.

If he was in this years draft he would be a top 5 pick

He only lasted until number 12 due to the depth of the draft last year.

Crows may trade him but would see him as valuable.

Thanks Jars458

Totally off the topic now.

How is it decided where the new draftees to the crows will play in the SANFL? Does the club have a say?

I am suggesting Mark Stevens and draft picks for Carey.
Jabso, who made you captain? Did I miss something whilst I have been away OS?

NO WAY to Stevens being traded. He is one of my few untouchables (unless we get a young gun for him such as Reinwoldt).

I agree with everything you say - a very sensible post. :)

Each year all of the recruits from the Crows and Power who have not been previously alligned to an SANFL club are put into a SANFL draft. The clubs get to pick which recruits would suit them and do deals with other SANFL clubs for the players.

For example, as Carey has previously played for North Adelaide he will automtacially go back there and not be drafted.

Stevens to go back to North? Didnt they try to get him last year and he knocked them back? Would not happen.

I wonder what are the chances of Jamar not being put onto Melbournes senior list this year? He would be a good project to have, and be ready for when Doc hangs up the boots in the future.

Another good ruckman could be Dean Brogan from Port, who is stuck behind the pack of rucks at Alberton.

Brendan Lade anyone? ;)

Thanks

I would have thought the Crows and that other mob would rather field their own SANFL sides, with under 18 top up players from a specific region or zone. I think Vic clubs have a big advantage in that we can field a team of draftees and young players who spend a few years playing for the same team, and doing their footballing apprentiships together.

Carey never played League football for them though.

Not sure what level you had to be at to go back to your club of origin.

not that he will play in the SANFL anyway. That would be a scary thought.

My understanding is that you are linked to the SANFL team even you only played under-age or reserves games. League games aren't essential. Carey & Hargraves playing for North

This has been discussed before but just to reiterate.
Carey played Reserves and Under 17's for North.
Adam Heuskes didn't play senior footy with Norwood and did qualify to join them when he returned from Sydney to play with Port!

Anyway its doubtful Carey would ever play SANFL!
