been looking at some phantom drafts and some say our 1st pick will be suban, some say cornelius. i would take suban 1st round, 2nd round tom rockliffe??? small smart forward with a great goal sense who plays in the middle aswell and could even develop further into a part time small back. rate this kid and if he was around with our 2nd pick id definetly take him.

of course we have ranga with our last pick, 3rd round i dont really know i would probably take a tall utility like a dan mckenna of last year, can play back or forward

what are your thoughts? some players we should get?

I just don't get the whole Suban as a replacement for Milburn theory some people are putting forward. Suban, from memory, is around 180cm while Milburn is about 190cm.

Milburn takes the medium sized forwards, no way Suban can. Besides, I see Suban more of a midfielder than defender.

I'm with thejester - look to a key position player with the first pick, Lisle or Trengove. Both can hold down CHB while Lisle has also played forward.

And at the risk of sounding like a broken record, you want a replacement for Darren Milburn, the kid's name is Matthew Broadbent.

1: Lewis Johnstone.
2: Key Defender - Someone will be around.
3: Sam Hughes
4: Ranga

I'd be wrapped if we got Hughes with our third pick but surely he'd be gone before then.

Also S&B, second thread in a week on postseason stuff, not enjoying this season mate?

Yeah I would love to have Johnstone also. He would round off our forward stocks nicely.

I'm praying for a miracle to see Vickery available come our pick. I just see him as the perfect replacement for Otto once he retires. Vickery will be about ready physically once that happens too. Unfortunately it will not happen.:(

I think a player like Rockcliff is the last thing we need at the moment.

Who is this Sam Hughes too Rizzo? Got any info?

nah very happy with this year just interested in what our squad might look like next year and there is nothing about the current year to post for me that other people already havent.

on hughes, i dunno about that i dont think he will go before then. has awesome fitness but really needs work on his kicking and maybe his decision making.

as for suban i never said we needed to replace milburn with suban i just think we need one more small defender who can also play midfield and he will suit geelong as he is as hard as they come and geelong will be very interested just on that fact. wellsy and the coaches love hard players.

I am not going to pretend to know a great deal about future draftees, but from what I gather this (post above)would be the best outcome for us. A CHB type with our first pick, and Broadbent with a second pick.

I like the sound of Ranga!

A bit of self advertising but meh.

LEOPOLD teenager Sam Hughes is a footballer on the rise.

The 17-year-old was just one of the few talented footballers from country Victoria asked to pull on the ``Big V'' for the recent NAB national under 18 football championships.

While selection in the squad does not guarantee a game, Hughes played in a handful of games, including the team's trip to Western Australia.

``It was a great privilege to play for Victoria, especially when you get to go interstate and play against WA,'' Hughes said.

``Obviously there is more weight added to it because all the recruiters are looking at you.

``You just have to block it out and play the best football you can.''

In his games, Hughes had some big jobs on the nation's best players, including expected top draft picks Neville Jetta and Stephen Hill.

``I think I coped well and got some really good feedback from my coaches about my game,'' Hughes said.

In arguably his best game, Hughes kicked three goals in Vic Country's win over Tasmania, the highlight a soccer goal between the legs of several waiting defenders.

The overall professionalism of the championships also surprised Hughes.

``It just takes everything to a new level, and makes you realise just how professional football at the higher levels can be,'' he said.

``After the game we have ice baths and recovery sessions, but also we have coaches sitting down and running through our games with us.''

Hughes' focus will now be on school, as he tries to manage both VCE and football.

Getting the Geelong Falcons to another premiership will also be a goal.

``We are trying to get into the top four, so we have a great chance of playing in the grand final,'' he said.

Electric Wingman half forward who has good pace to burn. Really crafty around goal and has good goal sense. Looks a really dangerous prospect, but needs to build up more.

Sorry, when I wrote my original post I wasn't directing the 'replace Milburn' comment at you but rather in general - I've read other phantom drafts stating that Suban would be a replacement for Milburn which I just don't think is correct as they are different sorts of players.

As an example - http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=477068

But I do think Geelong needs to look long term in regard to guys like Milburn, Harley and Scarlett.

Quality stuff there Rizzo.:thumbsu:

I was having a look at his TAC stats and noticed he is averaging about 18 touches a game this year. Although, only about 58% of those touches are effective. Is there an obvious flaw in his disposal or are those stats an exception?

Also, what sort of height is he? Sorry about all the questions...:p
