The Grand Final highlighted the chasm in skill level between the Grand Finalists and us. Hawthorn won the game because of their kicking superiority both in front of goal and around the ground. The first priority in my opinion when choosing players in the forthcoming draft is to select those who can kick and I don't mean floaters. The other qualities that we need, speed and ball winning ability should be assessed after that first criterion has been addressed.

An interesting comment in the Age Grand Final supplement. The Hawks deliberately drafted left footers because of their higher kicking efficiency and as a result assumed the mantle of No. I on the efficiency list. Something to think upon.

Having power forwards the likes of Roughead and Franklin generally make your kicking look a lot better, but the Hawks are definately near the top when it comes to general field kicking. Should definately be a focus of ours this coming draft, but at the same time, I wouldn't pass up the chance to pick up a player in a position of need who's kicking may not be elite.

Hmmm.... Melbournes Neitz robbo team was very very good too, but ive lost count to how many times the ball flew over their heads on the lead.

Are you serious. We have positions of need in nearly every section of the field. We must draft the best available players who can use the ball at an elite level consitently. Particularly important with the game plan Bailey seems to be implimenting. Look at the game on saturday. Players like Young, Dew etc. Not the stars by any means but at crucial times their ability to either hit a target or finish by foot proved the difference.

Yes they were excellent targets for us (hopefully Robbo will continue to be), but as a duo are not in the class of the Roughead and Buddy combo. The point I was trying to make in the previous post is that having quality forward targets makes a midfielder's job so much easier when it comes to delivering the ball inside 50.

Um, yes I am serious. "Not elite" doesn't equal crap for what it's worth.

our skills are simply terrible, we have gotten rid of our most skilful players in Yze and Trav Johnstone although it was probably right to get rid of these players even guy's like Cammy Bruce are struggling to hit target's these days. Addamm Maric was knows as an Elite kick at juniour level so hopefully he can step it up and play to the same level if not better than Adem Yze.
