I’m done using injuries as an excuse. All teams get injuries. We just bottled a 4 goal lead to a half baked West Adelaide at home last week. It’s pathetic.
There were a few happy clappers in this forum last week telling everyone to take a chill pill & not read too much into the results of our trial games. The loser mentality has completely engulfed the entire football club.

No doubt, game plan has a huge impact and the performances are unacceptable.

The biggest glaring concern for me is our captain. Nick Moore is a scrubber. He had a couple ok seasons where he was a reasonable contributor, but ultimately he's a scrubber, and probably struggles to get a game at most other SANFL clubs. Here though he takes the special conditions position of captain and runs out there tonight and has 6 touches. SIX!!! If your ] leader is having 6, you're in trouble.

I think the recruitment of Atkins, Watkins & McLennan have been hugely justified tonight. Without that group imagine how ugly it would've been.

Having a group of scrubbers that really aren't up to it in top ups, ie. Coroupis, Growden, Carnelly, etc. Then you add 18 year olds like Rome, Whitlock, Barrett. It's going to be tough. We certainly will struggle in most games when you have that many players to carry. You can carry a couple of them, but that injury list of 9 players has a huge flow on effect when exposing all of these guys at the same time.

Then you've got a player like Charleson who should've just been delisted. If Tommy Cochrane has gone past him, surely there were others on the table at the rookie draft who could be more valuable than him. 4 touches for Charleson is just embarrassing.

One thing I just think is glaring within our club during the Hinkley era, is when the game opens up and our players are going end to end, we just can't hit targets going forward. Our system is just so flawed at all levels that we can link up and move through the lines uncontested, but those last pieces of the puzzle going forward are just so ineffective and when games open up like that we just don't hit the scoreboard and put teams away.

I don't understand why Cochrane couldn't have played 3 quarters here. What he did yesterday (1 quarter) is pretty much a light captains run.

Considered the 160 km round trip. No.

Very interested to see the level of fitness of our AFL players.

Do ALL of our AFL and Rookies get a decent amount of fitness attention, physical and mental, as the main team guys?

Does Hinkles communicate one on one with the second tier and learners?
Looks like fitness is an issue.

Disagree, our best lineup on paper is capable. This side is missing heaps of players, Marshall, Lord, Jones, Burton, Butters, Lukosius, BZT, Walsh, Tom A.

Thats way too many top liners out in round 1.

You inject 7-9 quality players into that lineup and theyre definitely finals capable.

Undoubtedly an embarrassing last half though. Would love to see the record books on goalless last halves by Port. Wouldn't be many.
Understand the injuries but last week overrun by West Adelaide in the last quarter? They just don’t care.

Nick Moore came from the WWT reserves side, it is staggering they can’t find a better captain. I can tell you there are players in the amateur league that are more talented than him.
