Mmm.

I personally rank the crisis of passionate fans still seething about unfair umpiring in a narrow loss reacting to cockahoop rival fans cheering by booing over our domestic violence crisis.

Would you like some think music?

Yes a bit of booing has been the catalyst for me worrying about the state of humanity, nothing has ever highlighted the downfall of our species quite like booing.
Quilting and scrap booking not a concern?

I have massive double standards on this issue because I whole heartedly support the booing of the umpires but I really didn’t like the booing of Pendlebury. It really has to be a free for all or nothing. In an ideal world it’s the later but that is very sanitized and nanny state.

Yeah fair enough. But still, I agree with Whateley. If we're going to start accepting shit**** loser behaviour like booing a transcendent gun like Pendlebury just because a couple of umpiring decisions didn't go your way, then society is moving in the wrong direction.

But it wasn’t that at all.

These industry types seem to think that as soon as the final siren goes your emotions about what just transpired should revert to neutral.

That’s just not realistic. A loss like that can take fans days, even years to get over.

Yet in the moment, when faced with rival fans roaring at another win, Essendon fans should’ve sucked it up and not reacted at all.

It’s just nuts.

Whateley and co wax lyrical about the tribalism and familial passion for footy that is unique to Australians blah blah blah, but then carry on like Bambi’s been shot when that spills over in a way they don’t like.

And we’re not talking about racism, or homophobia, or firms kicking the stuffing out of each other on the terraces, we’re talking about some reactive booing.

Bloody hell.

Sorry was that the wrong answer?
Mmmmm. Err. Ahhhh. OK, I started this so I'll finish. If there's been a player in the AFL in the last decade who actually deserved booing it's Lindsay Thomas. If he hadn't spent a pointless 15 min on our list no-one here would blink at that. Even then managed another longish suspension.

Blame the umps all they want, composure cost them that game, had chances but burned the ball quite a few times late.

Exactly. And the worst call of the game was the one against Langdon that got Essendon back to within a goal. Morons.

Polec and Pittard have picked the worst possible time to play in Adelaide, the boos are gonna louder than what they would be normally.

I don't have the impression that Pittard left of his own accord. Didn't we decide to part ways with him? I think he's been a professional and good clubman for us. I can't boo him unless he's lining up to kick a winning goal, and even then I'd be too busy seething at Ken.

The industry has become so detached from the common fan it’s unreal.

As a mate just said, the entire game is predicated on irrational emotion and love for our football clubs. Of multi-million dollar operations and cashed-up young men who the vast majority will never meet.

Without the masses and the emotion that fuelled the booing, none of this and its associated careers exist - and that includes the moralising blue tick brigade who are stacking on and seemingly keen on us watching footy like the Japanese watch boxing.

Class and sportsmanship should be part of the common fan's makeup too.

...
Little toss bags like Chamberlain who think its about them and people come to watch the umpires would be helpful as well. No one gives a stuff "razzor ray", shut up and do your job, don't hold the game up to talk down to players.

1. Razor is a bit dickish and make questionable calls like all others but he doesn't show bias toward or against any particular club.
2. Talking to the players is the best way to do the job, when razor got a serve by the public last year for telling a player to calm down it was truly ridiculous, it is a much better way to prevent a player losing their cool than the usual technique of 'pay a lot of really soft or technical free kicks to remind the players that we are in control'.

I'm with you here. I have absolutely no beef with Pittard. I want him to go home a loser, but he's ok.

Yeah I couldn’t agree less. Lindsay was publicly labelled a dog last year but Selwood/Hodge/Judd/Superstar du Jour is always depicted as an uncompromising hard nut or some other synonymous bullshit for similar actions or worse. It’s a massive, massive double standard that permeates the league and it starts with all the spunk-guzzling sycophants in the media.

Crowds that cheer a lot also boo a lot - better the booing than universal silence regardless of the game.

For me booing is the right side of the white line that, when crossed, leads to dumb soccer shit like throwing flares and rioting

Agreed. He didn't walk out. He didn't want to go but was put in a position where the club wanted to trade him and he knew he wouldn't be getting regular games here.

Ne hard feeling with Jasper what so ever.

Agreed. Save the booing for Polec but spare a Bronx cheer for when Pittard finally hits a Port player on the chest.

Or are Bronx cheers under the microscope too?

It was a 50/50 play on tussle but in the replay it appeared Langdon at the final second had his arm across his opponents chest trapping the opponent from raising his arms for the marking attempt. Maybe that's what the umpire saw. I would've called play on.

Yeah the last home game when we were silent made me sick. It was a feeling of death. I want an atmosphere that makes the oppo shit themselves.

Do you have those stats for last year? IIRC Collingwood were around 100 to the good in 2018 but as edgie said, nothing compares to the constant run the Bulldogs get.

With the Bulldogs it's not just about the ones they get, but about the ones the other team doesn't.

They got twenty free kicks in the 2016 Grand Final. Not that bad really.

Til you see that Sydney received eight. Eight. An average of two a quarter. Just lol.

no one cares but media. Have that not seen a showdown medal won by the non home team the last 20 years? lol

Go back and have a read of the reaction when Robbie Gray was booed after the second Showdown last year. Not many Port supporters approved of that. It's classless garbage.
