Always make me laugh when people complain about the GF being at the MCG.
If they win, there's no mention of the "unfair home ground advantage". If they lose, holy shit it's comedy hour.

Swans, Dockers, Eagles, Port and Crows have all been pounded there in grand finals. In 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 the premier didn’t even earn home ground advantage. It’s clearly a disadvantage to play away from home ground in front of a majority of opposition fans.

Sure point to the Brions three peat but they were a merged super club.

The best hope of a non vic club winning a flag at the G is to play another non vic club (2004, 05, 06) or hope for a Bradbury (98, 2012).

You have to go back to 97 for the last time a non vic club genuinely beat the odds.

That could be the reason on why Hinkley seems obsessed to build a team capable of thriving at the MCG, even if the side might struggle a bit in its own home ground.

Do we have a practicing field that matches MCG's dimensions? If not, that would be something we should look closely. It would be most probably outside Adelaide.

We could "hide" it (at plain sight) within something like Port's country club - a place for members to play cricket, ride horses, enjoy a small amusement park, sail or row on a lake, enjoy a barbie with friends, etc. However, Power could use as a training facility, to get used to MCG.

I don't know if there is demand for such a club. If there is not, just the training ground and small building for the lockers, laundry, storage, and the administration would be enough.

2016 too. That's 4 years in a row.

And it's 5 years in a row of Victorian teams beating non Victorian teams.

It's absurd but it will never change.

Hahahaha! Australia is the answer to "What if Brazil were rich?"

in terms of economic comparisons over a full century, Argentina used to be used more frequently as a point of comparison than Brazil. like here, a relatively small population for size but high agricultural prices placed both among the very richest countries in the world early last century. it used to be said that "Australia rides on the sheep's back".

and if we're ever going to export AFL to South America it will be better climatically suited to the lowlands of Argentina (and Chile)* than Brazil.

please don't shoot the messenger ;)

*having played a grand total of one scratch match of soccer at 3000m against Peruvian villagers I think we can safely pass on the Altiplano markets

Southern Brazil fits the description. I am a Gaucho through and through...

P.S.: We don't shoot much. We used to behead (true story)...

Footy park is probably closer but it didn't help the crows...

Or maybe you guys should look a little deeper and see that the issues are a little more complex then when the grand final is played.

Ticket allocation is split evenly between the two clubs. Where’s the advantage then?
There’s plenty of corporates from around Australia, media types, etc who attend for “social” reasons. Plenty who aren’t barracking for either club in the grand final.

Do you guys think that if it was to be played in Adelaide, we’d get more tickets if we made a grand final?

How many clubs attract anywhere near 100,000 during the year? Very few so only very few would know what it’s like playing in front of that many people at the mcg.
Should those clubs be punished and not allowed to ply in front of 80,000+ because if they make a grand final it gives them an advantage?
Or maybe the solution is other clubs pull their fingers out of their bums and sort their shit out, like our club is doing.

Plenty of clubs around the world in different codes travel to away cities for big games and finals and do just fine.

Should World Cup host nations be excluded from participating?

That's the biggest farce in the AFL. Until the GF is either played at a neutral ground or the home ground of the highest-finishing team, it will the VFL.

But it IS the VFL. It has merely expanded.

The MCG for the grand final is fine. However it should be every side gets a minimum of 2 games there a year. Plus the chance to train on it multiple times a year, including during the bye week before finals for all sides in them.

Whilst non-Victorian sides will always be at a disadvantage, this could be made much more equitable.

The bye shouldn't be between Round 23 and the first Finals Round, but before the Grand Final.

You clearly didn’t attend the 2007 grand final, nor do you understand the grand final ticket allocation process.

So you are saying that it is OK to forgo fairness in pursuit of bigger crowds and therefore more money?

It is well known that the host of any multi-nation, international event like the world cup will have an advantage. But it's not the same and you know it, right?
