Austin getting his first game for St. Kilda this week.

Meh. I’ve got plenty of time for the other blokes who found new homes last year but the way Austin left still rankles me.

Doing everything last minute is not a strategy for success and look, St. Kilda is 16th.

Can someone tell me, have Carlton been hamstrung in recent years by something to stop them getting better? I am sure the penalties for salary cap rorting was a long time ago now? Even the Crows have been able to overcome draft pick losses to not bottom out like Carlton have for a decade. I dont get why they deserve a priority pick now?

Because the Exers need to top up their talent in a couple of years?

Because they're Carlton and they think they deserve everything. Prime Time fixtures being at the top of the list.

The league talks a lot about equalisation but watch the bloosers get a priority in the loaded draft.
Maybe they should get the other 17 presidents to vote on this?

:D

Gillon to set up another committee to make the call!. :D

Dont agree with him but at least he said pick 19. I was expecting the dopey prick to say pick 1.

How many GWS 1st and 2nd rounders are on their list? I just had a quick look at their list on draftguru.com.au and they have 19 first rounders of which it includes Dale Thomas, Lobbe and Jeb Lamb who was pick 21 in 2010 when the first round finished at pick 25. The other 16 are under pick 20. They have the players they dont do a good job with development and coaching. Pick 19 will do SFA to fix that up.

All it’ll do is condemn some poor talented kid to a career in mediocrity.

They won 6 games last year, same as North, and one less than Richmond in 2016. Last in 2015, just above the Dogs with 7.5W in 2014, and “suffered” 6 years of middly 10W-14W seasons before that. 5 years of 2002 triggered total shite before that.

The current slump has *nothing* to do with 2002 draft sanctions. This is just the tail of one failed rebuild, where the need for the *next* rebuild was again wilfully ignored.

They’ve been here before, you see.

Carlton won the 2002 spoon *before* sanctions hit. That self inflicted wound, a much needed but much delayed rebuild, and Elliott-inspired financial straits all hit at the same time.

Three big differences then to our 2011-12 slump:

1. Non-diluted draft pools for years
2. 3x PP: 2003, 2005, 2007, (one lost 2002)
3. Unashamed entitlement mentality

They rebuilt, traded “big”... rose a tad, but it failed. This isn’t a club on the edge of survival. This is a bunch of folks allowing entitlement to compound incompetence and instability. And so it continues: <insert Trigg reference here>.

This time around with the draft no longer quite as diluted as it was for us, there’s free agency having opened trade floodgates, open bidding on other clubs’ potential “priority” draftees, Cat B pathways for alternative talents, and they’re about to get their own zone of sorts to pillage and to populate with brown paper bag immigrants from their their zones. There’s never been a more open market. Rebuilds to at least “competitiveness” have never been possible faster than today - and it will get faster IMO.

**** me. How much more of a leg up do they think they’re entitled to over decades?

If I was Gil I’d tell them to STFU and go watch Brisbane v Hawks. No, perhaps it would be more effective if Jeff Kennett stepped out and slapped their faces with it in public ;)

Amazing isn't it. SOS went all in when he came over from GWS and dragged a stack of juniors with him.
