West Coast will be spewing they took Kane Lucas instead of the kid in the pink pants

That's not even a joke. At least the kid in the pink pants has upside.

View attachment 114787 View attachment 114788 View attachment 114789 Lol got to love the stuff people put on the clubs facebook page. This Idiot thinks the club will draft her boyfriend if they post a few pictures of them playing footy in their front yard. hahaha
Poor guy, there's wanting your GF to be impressed, then there's being set up for ridicule the whole season. If you were his mates and went to the footy with him, every missed kick, mark and goal you'd be into him that the side would be so much better if he was out there.

We had no choice, we offered him a contract that he turned down, we put him up on the trade table but no one was willing to trade for, so we let him go rather then suffer again for losing another 2010 draftee to the draft again.

Your post confuses me. If the contract was offered prior to trade week why didn't he advise it was insufficient then?
We did and we didn't. Players like Newton command a decent chunk of a salary cap, because they are decent players, non spud types who somebody else can use.
Paying overs to keep somebody like Newton (a serviceable AFL standard player) is what kills clubs salary caps and results in stars leaving. There is a fair bit to lose either way and not much that can be done. You become a victim of your success and it is exactly the type of thing the salary cap is intended to do.

Hawthorn got two picks in the forties for Mitch Hallahan. Hawthorn got more picks for spuds like Cheney and Lowndes. We are competing with these pricks for the premiership this year and probably for a few more, yet people here are willing to accept our club losing a first team player (admittedly only at a weaker club) for nothing? It seriously baffles me. We are in a competition, and from where I stand it's not a giveaway.

It wasnt a money issue. He had a contract in front of him for most of the year. I believe he would have got more money here than what he is now getting at Melbourne.

We did all we could to a) keep him, then b) get something for him, then c) keep him again. Not much we can do if he wants game time that we cant offer.

So pray tell how you would get picks for an out of contract player wanted only by one of the worst teams in the league as a squad player. Bearing in mind that we only had shit picks anyway and only used them because we HAD to.

So lower than 56 for him. From a team that would want him. Basically a first or second rounder.

In the context of Porthawn, the only first teamer at Melbourne is Nathan Jones.

It's not ideal but the club did everything it could to either keep Newton or receive a pick for him in a trade. Failing that, the club built a lot of goodwill by helping Newton get to Melbourne. Not much more could be done tbh.

So Robbie Gray had the flu on Sunday, 28 touches and 3 goals.

Meanwhile, Brownlow Winner Matt Priddis.
