Stem cell research being so heavily regulated because a small group of people gets upset by it who probably have had no hardship in their lives, is part of the issue.
Religion doesn't like science telling them what to think. Return the favour.

Seriously, why do we have no answers for cancer. We're shit.
Because unfortunately cancer is more like a thousand different questions all with complicated answers.

That's also a particularly narrow minded view. I'm a scientist, but have no problem with ethicists making sure that we fully understand what we're dealing with before we go messing around with it.

RIP Ken Judge.

A few WA based members who are also members of the WA Supporters Group would have seen Ken at many pre and post game functions they organised when Port were in Perth.

What are you doing about it? There wont be an answer for another 30 or 40 years despite what the medico's say when they go raising money. There are too many complex reasons why it happens at all.

Ethicists, absolutely. Religious nutjobs, not so much.

I agree, but as Raman said.

The religious nutjobs may be quite vocal but they have next to no influence on the matter.
The scientific committees that decide these matters are usually more than capable of filtering out garbage. And that also includes from the anti-ethics nutjobs who would push for any kind of research no matter the costs.

That doesn't seem to be the case in the USA, but I'd love you to be right.

The scientists themselves are yes, but they are funded by government and other bodies who are most definitely concerned about the extreme religious right and their influence.

Unfortunately you can't separate the two.

One day.

I'm certainly not going to claim that I have a full understanding of all ethics and advisory panels internationally, but I'm pretty sure that the loud groups with no real substance to contribute to debates are appeased by being allowed to take credit for decisions they have had no hand in.
Similar to that facebook page "Greens taking credit for things"

Chaplin removed from Richmond's leadership group - are they finally starting to see some sense?
I think its probably just that he's been such a successful influence that he doesn't need to shout and point fingers at his teammates while having a shit game any more, they've all worked out how to do it themselves.

Disagree. My understanding: The religious nutjobs included the U.S. President "compassionate conservatist", George W. Bush who had just a little bit of influence when halting stem cell research. Change of U.S. President, magically stem cell research starts again.

How much stem cell research would help in treating/curing/preventing cancer is another matter entirely...

Have you ever seen me and Batman in the same room together?

I've never seen you bat a man off in a room either but it doesn't mean it hasn't happened.

They'll only truly see sense after he's been delisted.
