Not this side no. Nick Daicos makes them a 4-5 goal better side. They absorbed a lot of pressure tonight , didn't give Melbourne space at all inside 50 and defensively look better than anyone.
Geelong 2022. Collingwood were piss tonight.

Maynard will get off. The AFL won't want to rub him out for a GF, but they can't give him one week. It's head high contact and at a minimum high impact, which means even if only graded as the minimum grading of 'careless' it's two games, which means no GF for Brayden. There's no way that under the system they can give him one game. They'll have to rub him out for the GF, or rule that it's not a suspendable action and let him off entirely, and between those choices I'd bet my house that they'll let him off entirely.

This is probably true, it's just hard to believe we can set a precedent that if you just jump at someone kicking, turn in for the bump and knock them out that it'd be ok.

Half the AFL rules are built on trying to change behaviours. Surely the behaviour change here is just as important as any. A players reaction was to bump rather than brace with the hands, he braces with the hands and there's no injury and we move on. Instead he braced with his shoulder, bumping and concussing someone, early in a game and left the opposition significantly impacted. By every measure it is something that should be suspended.

And you know what, I'd be happy if they let it go. The problem is that I want them to be consistent and when the same happens with a Port player, I want to know we wont see a suspension. However I can guarantee that if a Port player did that tonight, all the commentators would've been talking about "oh, he's in a bit of trouble", "oh he turned and hit the head with a bump", "Not looking good for the Port player here"....... Instead we get the defence by media already well and truly under way.

If Maynard did that in round 3 it'd be 3-4 weeks easily but they'll get him off here because the AFL is mostly fixed.

F***en love the bleating of "what else could he do?" How about not charge at a vulnerable (kicking) player at a speed he couldn't control and then instead of bracing with his arms out, just dropping the shoulder and laying a guy out. And all these absolute f***wits making this bullshit argument will feel vindicated when the AFL apply the finals discount and let him off.

It won't set a precedent. The AFL don't give a shit about precedent. Next time somebody does the exact same thing but they don't have a potential Grand Final coming up in two games, they'll get rubbed out.

The pre-finals bye basically renders winning the qualifying final useless, so I cansee Collingwood getting done in a prelim.

From 2000-2015, 75% of the time the qualifying final winners won the prelims and the other 25% one lost, the other won.

From 2016-Present, 29% of the qualifying final winners both lose the prelim, 43% win one lose one and 29% of the time they both win through.

Another way to look at it is since the finals format we know (pre-bye) 88% of the winning qualifying finalists won the prelim. Since the bye, its 50%.

Whatever happens tomorrow night, I think Michael Voss deserves a bit of credit for becoming the first coach since James Hird to get Carlton into the finals.

FFS its severe impact, there is nothing high about knocking someone out, when severe definition includes the potential for serious damage, even if the contact doesn't knock a player out.

Its either 0 or 3+. Then collingwood have to appeal.

Carlton getting the Friday night final instead of Brisbane v port is classic VFL.

There is logic to it.

1v3 loser plays 5v8 winner next Friday night so they get 8 and 7 day break respectively.

2v3 loser plays 6v7 winner the next Saturday night and they both a 7 day break.

If I'm a lawyer leading the class action I'm laughing my way to the bank in maynard gets off

Any league that has genuine care for the player doesnt let Maynard go unpunished but as Schulzy points out

By the AFLs own noose that means its 2 weeks at best so he will get off
