Port Magpies select new coach.

Just in case you haven't heard,

Matthew Knights was today appointed coach of the Port Magpies and Darryl Poole retired and has handed the captaincy to Tony Brown.

Darryl Poole is the first player in a long time not to win a premiership as captain of the Magpies, can anyone remember the last captain not to do so?

Also Simon Tregenza is going to remain as Reserves Coach however he will now have a role to play in the coach's box when the seniors play.

Yeah I'd reckon Cahill. Also isn't Matthew Knights the first "outsider" to coach Port? Well since a certain West Adelaide rover anyway:D

he's only their second coach ever so I can't see anything amazing about that.

PAMFC being a new side in 1996 and all.

To be confirmed in the next fortnight, Bob Boston from Port Pirie will coach the Port Magpies next year.
An ex player who has had an impeccable premiership record through country South Australia.

Any other predictions for us?

What do you people think about one of the softest outside receivers to play AFL coaching one of the toughest (historically)teams in the SANFL?
Change in philosophy I'd say.

A good receiver understands the importance of in and under players. If anything it should make him the opposite of Terry Wallace, which is a good thing.

I wouldn't regard Knights as soft compared to some of your Power softies. In the few finals he played at Tigerland he actually got a kick and had an impact, unlike half your power players. I wouldn't call him a reciever either as when he was playing his best footy Richmond were struggling. So to win as much of the ball as he did he couldn't hang out the side of a pack.

So give the guy a chance he might just bring something new to Port, and gee I think they need it. And before you bag the guy about his AFL days have a look in your own backyard.

If you'd not been so lazy and read the whole thread, you'd notice he retracted the comment middle of last week, before Knights was appointed.
