Review Port roll over against an actual club

I’ve not understood the criticism surrounding his recruitment nor what was given up for him (aside from the Atkins shenanigans). Sure he will frustrate at times but it’s so refreshing seeing a forward in a Port guernsey be able to kick long and straight. Huge upgrade on Finsprayson and upgrade on Marshall.

For me, it was facilitating the Suns and Collingwood’s cap situation and deals (ie Noble), losing arguably the best halfback in the league, and emerging without our 2025 first rounder.

Luko will be Luko.

Joe Richards might end up being the next Jamie Cripps, but he’s not the capital that suddenly makes that overall outcome favourable.

The net position was unacceptable, agree. If the “Luko trade” can be looked at as being Luko plus a second for a future first plus taking on a small inconsequential salary dump, it’s not terrible unless Port finish say bottom 6. The bit that riles me is we effectively gave Collingwood Houston for Berry and Richards.

JHF and Junior Burgers cost us goals with turnovers. I was behind the Lions goals during their purple patch in the first and they tore us a new one coming thru the right wing/half forward 50. The umps completely managed to stifle our pressure with at least 3 ridiculous calls. We came to play which is all I ask for but the PTSD I occur from hearing country road over the past decade makes me want to exhume John Denver’s corpse and set it on fire.

Anyone else not totally impressed witn Joe Richards maybe its still adjusting to the club and gameplan but its also halfway through the season. He tends to stop and think instead of playing on instinct when he gets a mark which is both good and bad. More bad this time round.

His goal was a miskick mungbean floater. Did have a few horrible possesions in the middle of the ground too. Seems he can be a rolls royce but right now is kind of middling

Its pretty clear that the teams that cough ,up the footy.Dont make the top 8.
Then theirs Port that turnover the footy .And have multiple inside 50's.
For some reason our gun mids dont perform vs Brisbane,Collingwood, Crows.
Last night was difficult with 3 injuries. And we did fight the game out
Luko and Georgie + Willie look good going fwd.
We have a bit of work to do at the trade table. If the club doesn’t want to rebuild, the list.
It has to be acknowledged that Ken arrived at Port.12 years ago. When the club was struggling ,both on and off the field. And he has played a role in getting Port back on its feet. But hes now stinking the place up.Time is up.Plenty of opportunitys for Ken.Director of coaching at Carlton or West Coast or the new Tasmanian job.
All the best to SPP . INCREDIBLY bad luck for Sam and,Port.

Well Houston hasn’t set the world on fire over there.

I was only half watching this game so I could be off but from what I did see it looked like JHF had just about the worst game of his career. Felt like every time I saw him with ball in hand he followed it up with an unforgivable clanger that an ammos player would be embarrassed by.
What was worse was that he'd follow it up by refusing to chase his opponent. A few times I found myself wondering how Neale was so free on the spread, only to see JHF casually jogging in from off-screen to pick him up at the stoppage. Just a complete lack of urgency.

You really hope he's carrying something, because at the moment he looks nothing like the JHF from the last two years.

JHF does not look 100% fit. I wonder if that shoulder injury he picked up is still hindering him?🤔

I feel like I've been banging this drum for 13 years, but our forward entry early especially was deplorable.

We did all the hard work in the midfield, got the ball to 70 out to a skillful player with time and space to find a target, and repeatedly turned it over.

If we can simply find a target in space in the first 10 minutes we're probably 4 goals up at quarter time instead of 4 goals down. Instead, for the 1000th time under Hinkley, we didn't take advantage of our play and the opposition did, and it was already game over.

Your local club's C grade is better at this than us. We are laughably bad. I'd love to see a stat for unpressured kicks inside 50 resulting in an intercept mark. I feel like we'd be dozens if not hundreds ahead over the next worst team over the last decade.

I counted five under no pressure waltzing into the 50 unattended that hit the Lions players on the chest in the first quarter. Just gimmes. A few dropped marks as well.

Boak missed an open Rioli. Easy kick.
Bergman misses Georgiades.
Butters misses a streaming Powell-Pepper for the Joe the Goose.
Bergman streaming out of centre clearance straight to Starcevich.
Drew terrible kick into a Lion.

I reckon skill errors, dropped marks and turnovers we might have an 60 point swing around. Even more.

the first quarter momentum killer boak. hes clearly not part of the plans next year and we cant play finals. get some game time into some youngens
He can still get the pill enough.
But too slow and continually gets caught HTB.
Then there's his kicking to no one, and his handballs to team mates in trouble 😳

Been a terrific and loyal player over a long period, and an exemplar for his fitness regime, but his days are clearly numbered.
Time to call time at the end of the season, and get a decent farewell.

Remember him for his best - not as a bloke who's past that best.

Put JHF in cotton wool for the remainder of the season.

If his shoulder is troubling him get it fixed now so that he is ready to go day one of pre season.

While Boak was one of the better players last night he needs to make way for the younger generation and that time starts now.

It is all about next year now.

But I am fearful Hinkley will still coach for his own selfish benefit without an eye to the future.
We have nothing to gain from Carr taking over early, not financial or structural. He’ll have the heat on him round one next year, why start any earlier. I feel like Hinkley moving from the bench was a good move so it’s no big deal if he’s not there next year. Also liked Carr doing the Presser last week. Feels like he’s eased into the job for both players and himself.

Of course when speaking about SPP the bald campaigner has to make it about him

'Possibly the last game SPP will play during my coaching tenure'
Saying that every time people want to have a go at players for earning too much money or not working hard enough they need to think about what Peps been through this week - hardly making it about himself. Thought Hinkley was a an idiot in the box with the teeth but his care for Peps seemed genuine.

1Free Against, which was for a high contact in a marking contest, not HTB. 3 turnovers from 27 touches. 82% DE

8 score involvements, 2 assists

He played a strong game, but ppl only remember the few bad moments because of unconscious bias.

He was so far and away from our worst, and has been so far and away from our worst for nearly every game this season.

Yeah I mean why would you want to give him half a dozen games at the end of this year with no pressure or expectations where he can try a few things out, when you can hand him the reigns round 1 next year so he can start under the pump. Yep nothing to gain there, you've always got your finger on the pulse of all things PAFC on field.

It’s become cool on here to shit on Boak even when he was clearly in our best 3 or 4 players on the field.

People being like "Houston hasnt set the world on fire" is total cope. That actually has no bearing on what we should have received for him and our net gain or loss on it. He was a star for us and we got a pittance regardless of his form at Collingwood.

Yeah the time to do it was either at the start of the season or at the bye. At this point there are extreme diminishing returns.

Edit: The only reason to do it now would be to make a statement on Hinkley, especially given the lolly gag, but we know Koch doesn't have that in him.
