Jamaine Jones laid 5 tackles and remarkably only one opponent ended up in hospital.

(not making light of Elliot's injury, hope he is OK)

Positives +

  • Willie Rioli's magic at it again. Soo happy to have him back we missed his magic last week. Very accurate kick at goal.
  • Naish set the tone by taking the corridor and executing those kicks reminding me of 18/19 Jetta. Would have him ahead of Gaff or Sheed in the best 22 if he keeps this up as he's a superior two way runner to them also quicker than the two.
  • Defense held up strong, they had more inside 50s by a mile yet our signature efficiency came through.
  • Accurate goal kicking.
  • Legdon playing his best game. Clean with pickups and showed class that he was previously lacking. Surprised he kicked a goal from 47m out.
  • Ryan was better than last week.
  • Accurate goal kicking by the boys.
  • Nelson worked hard providing extra support in the midfield.
  • Won without our best midfield.
  • JK came in clutch with the limited touches he had.
  • Gov and Barrass particularly the former controlling the air to make sure the Pies couldn't get shots at goal and they also halved contests.
  • XON playing his best game of his career hopefully he can keep it up and put pressure on Shuey, Yeo, Kelly, Gaff and Sheed by dominating the WAFL. Operates best as a inside mid.
  • Witherden was better and used the ball better than last week. Looked to attack the middle with his kick ins.
  • Nice having Duggan back to provide us the rebound that we lacked.
  • Dixon was pretty decent around the ground. Looked to take risks with his disposals.
  • Nic Nat was pretty poor in the first half but stepped up in the second term and smashed Grundy in the final term. Need to see more of him.
  • Redden was really good in leading the midfield.
  • West another who stood up from last week. Was clean with ball with possession and showed class he's been previously lacking.
  • Jones was really good with his tackling although didn't get much of the pill. However he looked to attack whenever he got it.

Meh =

Waterman was alright all night asides that clutch goal he kicked at the end. Also provided us with that extra tall defender the club needs even though he didn't get much of it.
= Darling went missing early on but stepped up late kicking a clutch goal.
= Hurn was average again from last week.

Negatives -

-
We got lucky that Collingwood failed to execute due to the lack of star KPFs. A better team with a stronger forward line would've put us away especially if they also kick straight. But then we were missing our front line mids.

As a tigers man im super happy to see Naishy playing well, Congrats Eagles, what a win

So what's the deal with Naish?
He's been one of our best across all 4 rounds (including arguably BoG today) and he didn't even do a pre-season with us.
Has he just turned it on out of nowhere this year?
We would have a couple of nervous and underperforming wingmen in Gaff and Sheed right now.

What a win!

So proud of the boys. They showed real grit and determination despite everything that has stood in their way.

In a season with many surprises and lows so far, there has been an equal number of positives including but not limited to:

  • Naish, Huge Dixon, what a steal
  • Willie, what a game changer. Definitely on track for an AA nom.
  • JK still going strong
  • Darling stepping up with a couple of crucial goals.
  • Nelson stringing together some good games
  • Reddo holding the midfield together this year
  • Gov turning back the clock

And most importantly
- noticeable changes to the game plan

We still may not make finals, but the future looks a lot brighter after tonight.

I’m relieved we got a win and it couldn’t be against a club other than our 2018 grand final opponents after our worst Derby score just 6 days prior.

Great game boys and bring on Sydney on Good Friday at home. Our first Good Friday clash in 3 years.

I honestly don't know, Struggled to have an impact with us, Maybe a change of scenery or maybe our gameplan didn't work for him. Hard to say, of course wish it was us but im loving watching him go well out west

Only game related negative was the injury to Edwards, the one other I'll touch on is does anyone know what was said by the crowd near the end to see Liam react like that, hopefully nothing racial but given the opposition fans I wouldn't be surprised.

Hell of a lot of positivity from it. Backline immense as they have been all year so far, although not big on the stat sheets both JK and JD where able to halve a lot of aerial contests with JD in particular reaping the rewards for it later in the game.

Gave the handball for Watermans goal (2nd last goal that gave us some breathing space) too.

That goal was a Whipping Boy Delight! Darling with the i50, Nelson with the handball setting up the Waterman goal.

Bit of a quiet day for my man Jake but he also was back on the last line to punch through Maynard's goal attempt in the last few minutes.

Wow what a game and what a great result for the club and more importantly ...Players

Positive:
Having a midfield willing to work deep in the backline and then trying to pinpoint a pass coming out instead of just booting it( did get that a fair bit in the 3rd).
Having players willing to look for the smaller player option going forward instead of bombing the ball long and very often not even to the side that the forward is standing or leading from.
Young players realising that they were it...so they had to be the ones involved. Hopefully the confidence gained can only benefit them and the Team.
The fact that opportunity arose last year with the horrid run of injuries for players West and L Edwards. The fact that injuries and Covid have given an opportunity for Dixon and Naish....and more importantly for these 4 to take that opportunity and play so well.

Negative:
Who cares

Gov is back, better for Barrass there..
JK 5 touches for 3 goals is just pure gold.
Darling finally worked that block of wood out of his head and arrived late in the game to help seal it.
(I give him a hard time, be he redeemed himself)
All the young ones who gave it a good crack all game - any seniors coming back need to earn it?
There was energy, synergy, connectivity, a method to the madness, most of all there was definite signs of a game plan change >>> the way forward from now on!
This is going to add so much depth and character to our side when the best 22 are back.

"Whether there'll be room for the kids when the stars return will have to wait to be seen, but the strongest steel is forged in the hottest fire and a testing time could be handing Simpson some quality weapons for the future..." AFL article.

TAB still offering $101 for the Flag if anyone wants to jump on!? :tonguewink:

Belief, gutsy Yoof & wise old heads. What a pleasant surprise this game was after that shitshow last week 🤢!
Can we shut down all the whinging & whining threads now & just go with the flow. What a ride 2022 has been so far, what’s next? Crazy times & the window is still open a crack 🤗
