I said i wouldn't melt, there were awesome green shoots.
But there were some ******* 1 rule for some ass green flogs out there as well.
Kept it under 100 against a premiership fancy, and oh boy do i like watching number 9 with the ball.

Worked their ass off, then stitched themselves up with the worst backbreaking middle of the ground turnovers you’ll see.

Positives:
• Ginbey, Chesser worked their way into it beautifully. Buoyed by their games.
• Reid, goes without saying. Just needs time and opportunity.
• Gov and Barrass. Kept it really simple (Barrass in particular) and * they worked hard against waves of pressure.
• JD, Waterman broke themselves presenting. No reward whatsoever (Jake wasted a few), the Bronx cheers for JD the lowest point today by a mile. Last week? Miles off it. Couldn’t have asked for more fight from him tonight. Watch our goals back if you’re too thick to get it.
• Effort was right up. We are a horribly talent deficient side, but we have been an effort deficient side in the past.

Negatives:
• Fire away, who could be bothered. Can’t use the footy, can’t hit short handballs, fumbly at the worst times. We look like we want to take it on, run and carry, break the lines for a change aaaaaand we miss a three metre handball so it’s an immediate goal. Too many individuals to name, would love to see how many of their goals they actually earned without us handing it to them on a brutal turnover.

We’re absolutely s**t, but we’re s**t in a way that gets better as you add talent. Just a horribly talent deficient side, working really hard and blowing themselves up as they chase their own turnovers.

It’ll turn.

Ginbey's best game for the club ✅
Yeo's best game for a few years ✅
Much much better games from Darling, Barrass and Gaff ✅
Had a crack but let down by spuddy turnovers and absolutely butchered the ball going forward. ✅
Chesser and Hough got more involved as the game went on ✅
Waterman didn't stop Trying all game ✅
Petrucelle backed up last weeks good game with another decent effort ✅

Harley fading is hard to watch when he's the most exciting part of the game. He looked frustrated out there today, didn't get much grinning 😢
Can't imagine things will change that quickly whilst Simpson remains at the helm ❌
Watching fantastic bits of team play be completely undone by a fumble or some spud skill error almost caused me to oeg my Chardonnay at the wall.
Barnett out of his depth, unsurprisingly ❌
Club still hasn't folded ❌
Not getting enough ball into brockmans hand
s ❌

I miss the gold old days with Tunbridge tackle.

Content with that game. If we can keep the scoreline less then 50 against top 4 side we are alright.

+Ginbey improved game
+Harley Reid was only a mid for the day. Really content as he is playing centre square specialist well. Let him split time mid and bench. (Dual position can become viable once he gets cardio up)

Barrass, Gov and Hunt were very valuable. Cole - well he actually works hard.
Kelly, Yoe and harley at times gave us something midfield.

Mostly under represented with talent (that's skill, athletic power, decision making) acrors the board.
Small signs of steady learning and development, Jamo, Long, as well as Hough and Chesser later.

Darling looks old. Cripps continues to work hard but is time is limited.

Never trade down draft picks. Cream rises.

I think we were exposed to the best list in the comp.

Bang on. Skills aren't up to par for AFL footy but contrast this to the Sydney game last year and I'll take this every week for the rest of the year, thanks. The list will get better, the players will get better, but both will take time. There were a lot of players out there today putting in a shift that likely won't be there in 2-3 years time, or will be much better players than they are now. There are plenty of green shoots.

Great, great game from Ginbey.
Reid coming in and out of the game but boy he can do some incredible stuff.
Good signs from Chess, some errors but very promising overall.
At the game was quite impressed by Edwards's work around the ground. Presented good options constantly while many others were flat footed.
Yeo, Kelly, Barrass, Gov, Hunt, Waterman all did their bit.
Darling fought hard and deserved more reward. GWS the wrong team to be missing Allen for first up.
He was smashed unsurprisingly but didn't mind giving Barnett a chance.

Best part of today for me was Ginbey and Chesser working into the game after really poor starts.

And yes, granted, Chesser had a lot of errors even when he came into the game, but he showed a good attitude to keep hitting it hard.

A step in the right direction for both of them today.

Hunt is quickly becoming the heart of this side for me.

500 odd bucks to keep a seat warm for another year when we have an actual AFL team. If we’re even still in Australia then, not much future here for people below a certain income bracket who don’t want to FIFO.

Tried to look for positives, was excited to see Reid for the first time. But a flash of his class in stoppages was soon stuffed up in a standard 2022-4 Eagles possession chain.

Got to find a new hobby for a while.

On the plus side, Duggan improved his kicking and actually hit a few targets. Briggs was far too big but Barnett competed well. The difference in footy IQ when Maric, Brockman, Reid and Hunt get the ball is noticeable. Long also to a degree.

NEGATIVE:

we suck again GIF

I Only watched the second half and thought there was some resiliance and some nice passages of play interspersed with some very annoying turn overs from poor execution. But found the last 3 goals GWS got infuriating due to the 3 blatent HTB descisions not paid all resulting in goals. At the end of the day 40 pount vs 60 point loss doesnt matter with where we will finish the year but it just pissed me off.
Ginbey was solid and found some pill, Chess is working into it and Brockman is class and creates time and space. Cole and Jamo had some s**t moments but also defended quite well. Gov and Barrass were very good. Amgry Yeo popped his head up too but looked spent in the last 3 minutes.
Content enough I guess, saw some promise and result went as expected. Look forward to see if we can make a game of it agai st easier opponents.

How many goals from turnovers? Eleven, I believe the commentator said. Can't win games with that happening.

My initial reaction was pure flatness but I think there are some positives

  • Harley looks even better than I ever imagined.
  • Ginbey broke through the 20 Disposal barrier for the first time. I think today was his best all round game. Better than first derby last year imo.
  • Chesser showed glimpses early and a few things didn’t go his way. Was worried he would go into his shell but I thought he fought back well in the second half to have a decent game. Showed good resilience.
  • Yeo’s first half
  • Brockman looked good give Joe starved we were in forward half.
  • Gov still a beast. Took some good grabs and looked to be aggressive off rebound with his kicking.

    Negatives
    • zero presence in F50. Monstered by Taylor and Buckley
    • skills were incredibly poor. A lot of basic skill errors.
    • another poor game from Duggan
    • slow start to the season by Kelly

65 points, I'll take it. Considering for our first 2 games we have played the 1st and 3rd ranked teams as the end of this round we haven't had any 100 point smashing yet.

Sure it's been a rough watch but there been plenty of green shoots and I think when we get teams that are not as clean and turn over a little more you'll see us be much more competitive. Looking at the stats and it's more encouraging again.

For our inside work was reasonable again for the second week in a row. We were less effective in the centre but around the ground our inside game was actually pretty damn good.

The other thing we did reasonably well was putting pressure on and causing turn-overs. it might not have looked like it but...

We had as much ball as they did and caused them to turn it over more than we did. The main issue was ours were so much more costly. once again got killed on the spread and on the outside of the contest. when we caused a turn over they were able to put more pressure on it where as when we did it went coast to coast.

Ginbey - 20+ possessions
Chesser - 16 possessions (Much better in the second half)
Another good game from Reid.

Gameplan has clearly changed. Excellent first Qtr pressure.
Plenty to take away from the first two games of the season.
