Positives
Fredericks - rising star nom this week I think
The young mids - getting there, Cerra, Brayshaw, Serong all did good things.
Bewley - this for the Bewley haters, he created, he hit targets. He is best 22

negatives
Goal kicking- Tabs & Lobb hit those 4th quarter goals and we’re in with a shot
Injuries- Kennedy’s performance should have been similar against the Saints. We were lucky the Saints forwards didn’t tear us apart, it was only time before the undersized backs were shown up.
8 of our best 22 out, result expected.

That was a terrible second half and was so disappointing after some of our efforts in the past few games. Gutted to say the least.

Feel a bit more capable after simmering down slightly.

+
  • Frederick can clearly go and is keen to do so - should be a lock next week.
  • Brayshaw, Cerra, Walters and Ryan all hung in there.
  • I thought Tabs and Lobb both presented pretty well (despite some diabolical delivery), but finishing let them down.
  • When the attacking instinct kicks in, we still look very good; those moments were just too few and far between.
  • The overall fact the problem areas are pretty clear and should (ideally) be pretty straightforward to work on.

-
  • Ball watching amongst the midfield (everyone guilty of it at one point or another)
  • Jamming ourselves up in stretches - I understand the desire to want to control the ball (particularly after the wild flailing that marked us in recent years) but there were too many looking for the sideways kick today.
  • Those missed set shots - had to walk out of the room for a bit.
  • The flat spots - we still need to work on the ability to step up when things rapidly turn against us. Fyfe returning hopefully helps with that.
  • The battlers - Banfield, Colyer, Duman, Schultz etc; sad to see normal service resumed. I realise we're undermanned and well below full strength, but someone has to be accountable for a one-goal half.
  • Fitness staff - result looks a lot different with even half of our outs on the park.
  • Umpires - not a factor in the overarching result, but more than helped them off the mat right at the start.

Feeling a bit more zen about it than I was an hour ago - they've sold the farm to win a flag and are at full strength, up against what's close to a seconds side for us - final assessment will all depend on what adjustments are made from this (on and off the field.)

Good
  • Fredericks good stuff
  • Game plan and ball movement when we are executing it look good.
  • Tabs & Lobb some great marking
Bad
  • Turnovers
  • Kicking to the spare west coast player
  • Lack of intensity and pressure for large parts of the game
  • Darcy needs to give us more

Positives were the gameplan and Fredricks.

Negatives were the weak performances from Tucker, Colyer and Mundy. And to some extent Serong, Schultz and Darcy.
Spot on. We had some players that wanted to play hot potato, did not want anything to do with the pill. Hearing footsteps and hospital handballs.

Still trying to figure out what Tucker's role was in the game, either way he did a shite job of it.

Positive
That first quarter. Really good fast play. Got on them early.

Youth coming through. Stood up, battled hard.

Tabs showing that West Coast are just a defensive team rather have no defensive individuals. Have to try and play then one on one. McGovern is embarrassingly bad as an AA, he is one of the weakest one on one defenders in the league. But the team unit of West Coast is why they re revered.

More time for the midfield- Second game for Acres, Serong getting involved, Brayshaw a leader.

Negatives
Second quarter lapse. 5-10 minutes where West Coast won the game. 20 points ahead, went back into their traditional defence and never looked back.

Worst/Bottom 6 of the 22- to be a good team, it’s not the top 5 that counts, but as Clarkson showed, it’s the bottom 6 contributing just as much. We have perhaps one of the worst around in terms of the depth. Gifting games to Banfield, Schulz and Colyer, for example, in the forward line isn’t going to win us games. Putrid performance from passengers. We can only take 2 max if that.

Tucker- poor game really. Nothing went right, same for Mundy.

Overreliance of Walters- we can’t have him in the middle 80-90% of games when he’s just as good forward. We need consistency from the midfield so we can have 2-3 goals from Walters.

Umpires- get that the free kick count wasn’t bad, but still we have games officiated by Margetts. Why? Predicted NicNat would get a free kick opening bounce as Margetts was there.. it came through. Only wish there was a betting option for that.

Right now that's true but we have 8 of our best 22 injured right now. If we had a healthy list players like Banfield would be more like 30th choice. We have an S&C problem moreso than a depth problem.

As usual one team has forwards that stand up, ours show glimpses.
Yes we will take time midfield, but can at least change it up.
A strong spine is paramount.
Watson or Meek need to debut sooner than later.

I was going to mention that, anyone at the game can tell me what Tuckers role was? It certainly wasn't in the midfield where he has excelled this season, seems he was pushed to a forward flank which is the death of any midfielder.

Negative, Walters getting most of his touches in the back half. We have midfield depth and he is a top 2 small forward in the game, by all means play midfield at centre bounces and on the wings but when he is taking the mark from the kick-out we are wasting a great talent.

We can argue back and forth about personnel but the bottom line is that until the S&C department is cleared out we are at nothing as a club.
ask yourself this one question:
Would Jason Weber be allowed spend 12 years over at the eagles while consistently having 8 or 9 players on average on the injury list and dozens of examples of guys that had recurrences during injury rehabilitation that timeframe?
Would he ****! He’d be out the door within 2 years. So why are we different? Why do our board and members tolerate under performance and mediocrity?

+
Frederick
Ryan
Walters, Acres and Cox were good in parts.

It's really clear where we need to improve:
Marks 68 to 111
Inside 50s 26 to 41
Conversion 71% to 52%

Those kind of stats usually mean a 10 goal drubbing. Score board flattered us.

-
10 in a row - where's our dignity?
You can't keep telling us Blakely isn't getting picked because he has deficiencies in his game and keep picking Taberner. Embarrassing to watch at times.

General comment.
We desperately needed to pick 2 tall defenders against the Eagles. Not sure if there are any on the list ready to go, but isn't' O'Rielly a KPP?

Please. Who gives a rats about the WC?

Surely there's no need to sully these pages with mentions of the WC unless absolutely necessary.

O’Reilly is a long long way off it I believe
