Gavin Hughes (Nwd). 180cm, 70kg, 20 years old. Plays on the wing and uses his incredible pace to perfection. Averages about 25 possessions per game and is an extremely damaging player due to his pace and foot skills. Likes to carry the ball and take a few bounces, and often runs forward to kick a few goals.

Bryce Campbell (Nwd). 181cm, 79kg, 21 years old. Plays in the middle and is one of the toughest players you could find. Is extremely courageous and not afraid of the rough stuff. Has just about the best foot skills in the comp and is terrific overhead. Without doubt the best tackler I’ve seen and he averages about 25 possessions.

Justin Westhoff (Cen). 197cm, 84kg, 19 years old. Still very thin and raw, but could develop into a quality forward. Has played about 5 SANFL games and kicked 16.2. Great leap and good pair of hands, a handful for opposition defenders.

Hughes and Campbell could possibly fall down to the Pre-Seasons draft, and I think they would be very valuable additions. Westhoff will probably be taken a little earlier because of his height and raw ability, but I think the Crows should keep an eye out for him.

Wouldnt mind Campbell at the Power. Hughes looks good as well. Westhoff is no certainty to be drafted thought has performed very well this year.

Bryce Campbell would've been close to BOG tonight for the Legs. Kicked 3 goals and stood up when we needed him most. Honestly if this bloke doesn't get a look in with the Crows it will be a wasted oppertunity.

Aishy Drummond -what is the washup here.

A few of the North lads - really liked the look of Mcintyre in one of the games I saw.

What about Matt Campbell?

Young Edwards and Pfeiffer????

I saw Shane Edwards play last week. I was very impressed, puts his body on the line, well skilled and has a long penetrating kick. Should be on the crows radar for sure.

McIntyre didn't go in the draft last year but told me the other night he wants to go in it this year. Could be a 5th round selection or thereabouts.

Great work mate, totally agree.

Matty Campbell is the quickest player ive ever seen... he would be a great goalsneak.. fantastic kick for goal and reads the well play.
Edwards is also a fantastic kid who has only recently debuted and has done well so far. Pfeiffer was BRILLIANT on debut against Port.. set up a goal for Ladhams on the 3 qtr time siren then kicked 2 huge goals to put us in front and then go a goal clear in the last term.
McIntyre continues to do a job in the backline.. hes almost like a young Ben Hart.

I may be mistaken but I think Drummond was mainly talking about "mature age" draftees, not under 18 guys.

He lives four houses away from me. :thumbsu:

I too like that Campbell. Good rookie list option IMO, would love him at Port.

Another 3 goals today, that makes 20.2 for the year.

Yer no doubt Westhoff will attact attention of scouts. Been closely watching him come up through the juniors and always wondered how he would go at league given he is such a beautiful, long and accurate kick and strong mark, but VERY spindly frame. Has held his own and will be drafted in my eyes. If he can add 10-12kg of muscle look out. Deceptively tall 197cm, lacks the real presence due to light frame but very mobile and has genuine footy smarts.

M.Campbell is one who may go, certainly very quick with good skills and kicks goals as a crumbing small. Not quite like Daniel Pearce who has a better motor and can run in middle all day but would be a handy addition in forward pocket at AFL level.

Hughes is one who should have gone last year. If it wasn't for his heart problem he would be right up there as the best for the legs this year. Very quick, finds plenty of ball uses it well and kicks goals. Showed good signs right throughout juniors and ressies and surely will get picked.

B.Campbell certainly looks like he could hold his own at AFL level, he never stops trying, heart of gold and IMO played well on Woewodin in the state game. Some might say too old but he would be one to give it 100%.

Most of others are genuine Under 18 kids, Hurley, Gibbs and Sellar are the best 3 but we have great depth this year in the SA side. Pfieffer, Edwards, Cunningham, Anderson, Caire all can step up and contribute.

We really need to draft some youngsters with pace. Not a Jericho can't play/ but have pace type of player but footballers with pace. Withoput Goody, our midfiled looks lumbering.

How quick is Douglas?

Then Gavin Hughes in your man. Unbelievable pace. :thumbsu:

Very quick Springy and has great evasive skills to go with it.

Make no mistake, Douglas will be the real deal. :thumbsu:

From what i've seen of him, he looks quick but actuallu isn't that quick- he's just very agile. Around Edwards pace maybe.

Add Adam Cockshell to that list. 19 years of age, 199cm, 102kg. Key forward and can ruck a little. Kicked four goals today and is improving every game. One to keep an eye on. ;)

I mentioned in another thread three Eagles:

Dale Symmons
Westbrook (he kicked 6 goals yesterday)
Sam Jacobs

Leigh Treeby could also be another.

Brisbane seem to have stolen a page from our drafting record earlier this century and this year with Needles by choosing some slightly older players for their draft selections and rookies - Patfull and Roe.

Maybe we should regularly do this with one or two of our selections at the latter end of the draft where your chances of success are much lower with younger players.

Symons, Westbrook, Treeby, Hughes, Campbell - Bryce and Matt, Westoff etc have one, two or three years more expereince than players just out of the Under age competitions. Their more mature bodies and minds may give us more short term benefit and longer term success as well.

Note well this is only for late draft picks, pre-season draft and rookie selections. One, two or three picks of slightly older players may continue to give us an advantage over the sides in the VFL.

Bigman IMO Vanilla type players although Westbrook takes a good grab at SANFL level.

If you are after pace there are a couple of speedsters at North who are very exciting. Matt Campbell is the quickest player I've ever seen and would be a very handy small forward option. The other is Leigh Ryswyk, who played 1 game for the Brisbane Lions last year. Great pace off the wing, good foot skills to leading forwards and he knows how to get forward and kick goals as well.
