I think people seriously undervalue what Yarran could bring to our side. His pace and ability to set up the play on a wing or off half back would be awesome for us. His bad games are when he is played deep in defence for Carlton. Release him and profit.

I'd rather get him than Gibbs...and unlike a lot of people here, I rate Gibbs. Yarran would be an extremely handy pick up to our team in terms of needs

His partner is South Australian. She's also my mates sister.

I would play Yarran off the wing
Love the idea of one more guy to rotate wing/HBF ala Smith, Hendo, Mackay.

Having said that, at least with Walsh at the helm we are balancing outside run with inside grunt far better. Still need more depth though. I'm not as down on Martin as most but he's the only one left in reserve atm.

Hel be looking to leave if their in rebuild mode. Like i said we need betts to piss in his ear. He would be great on a wing with smith on the other! Give carlton lyons and a second rounder.

I'd take Yarran, but I would pay anymore than pick 35. He's a quarter the defender Jaensch is and that's saying something. He would also be hurt defensively on the wing.

I used to laugh at Carlton playing Yarran off of a HBF to begin with. Some of his set up play and runs through the middle are breath taking, but the defensive aspect of his game was disgusting, left Carlton high and dry so many times.

Credit to him however, he has come a very long way with this and is much improved. Would take him on our HB line in a heartbeat, or even be pushed up into the midfield. Has a lot of x-factor and isn't afraid to lay a tackle. Would provide 10x more than what a struggling Hendo is providing right now.

You can't teach toughness. Wouldn't want to give up anything big for Watts.
Considering all he complaints we have about JJ being soft, even when having a decent scoreboard contribution, can you imagine the complaints if we ended up with Watts... as would definitely become the new #1 whipping boy!

In a good side, he would become a very competent player. He isn't and hasn't every been in a good side.

Until he is in a good side, you are simply judging him on his current output.

Over the past 10 years, the crows have had some very ordanary players look good in good sides. When we have had crap years, those players have been found out.

I heard the same argument about Tambling, don't we ever learn.

Did you watch his game against West Coast only 2 weeks ago?

I might be being a little harsh but I still wouldn't use anything better than pick 30 at a stretch to get him.

One problem, we were not a very good side that year.

True, he was on our list for 3 seasons and that's after 6 seasons with Richmond. I reckon 9 seasons in a good or bad team and never consolidating a spot tells the story.
For what it's worth he was a great player for Sturt and should be remembered fondly by their supporters.
Sometimes a change of clubs doesn't work. Watts (the first subject in this talk) doesn't impress me at all.

In a good or bad team you should be able to hold your uncontested marks. Once is excusable but two, minutes apart does not feel me with confidence.
Just not a fan, lacks intensity for such a big bloke and can't see how he's much of an upgrade.Hogan on the other hand...

Would West Coast give us anything of value for Shaw or Otten at years end considering their run with injuries? The two are kind of surplus to us now.

Are we talking about trading for players just for the sake of trading?
We can get a yarran type player in the draft that is going to start about 8 years younger than him. Save our picks, go to the draft. Unless it's for a superstar or we trade players out to improve draft picks or obtain more, I don't see the point in trading.

Do you honestly think they're going to take on more players with the injury record that both Shaw and Otten have?

Yarran is worth a pick in the mid 20s ....love to get him if aish falls through but think we will end up with aish who is a safer bet in any case

We should be keeping a close eye on yarran however as we don't have many outside types and he is sublimely talented

We should get Watts to take the media heat off everyone. Everybody could have the same whipping boy.

Oh this board said the same thing about Betts, "we can get him in the draft, save our money, he costs too much"

Sometimes you trade to improve your team and Yarran would improve our team
