I just wanted to personally thank the following posters for, at some point in the last 5 or 6 years that I’ve been involved with this site, managing to transcend this weird, artificial, frequently hostile environment to extend the hand of friendship (or similar) in a more human or meaningful manner than a site like this usually allows....

I've posted this in the Volkswagen thread, where posters were asking for TOD to post a story re the Roosistance gig that he was considering posting. But wanted to put it here too.



...From the post it is a completely understandable decision on TOD's behalf. None of us should be subjected to that kind of intolerable crap.

Now I don't know TOD except by reputation, from this board, and the Roosistance stuff also mostly learned here, and I know many of you guys and gals know him personally and have long associations with him through this forum, but I just want to say what a shame it is for such an esteemed member of this place to leave in this way.

I just hope his Roosistance stories make the light of day somehow.

I mentioned the death of my (immediate) family member to a fatal heroin overdose in that thread in the context of the discussion on heroin.

The slime in question then used that information to start a new thread poking fun at this tragedy. And did so without provocation. That is some sick shit right there.

The death is not something I talk about on this forum (for various reasons, main one being that it normally has no relevance), and it's a hard thing to explain to people in a few lines. Needless to say, this passing has had a profound impact on the lives of me and the missus, and the rest of our family. By coincidence, his son (who lost his dad when he was 5 and now lives up at Byron Bay with his mum), is coming down to stay with us tomorrow. We never stop living with this death.

So to open a thread and read an OP that intentionally and personally ridiculed this tragic death made me feel physically ill. I have been on this site for a long time and as a Mod I was a regular target of abuse. I learnt to laugh it off. This is on a whole different level. It's sick, and it has caused me considerable distress. I shouldn't have to log on to a discussion forum and worry that someone is going to post something like that.

Look, I'll probably get banned for breaking the magician's code (even though it's no big secret), but this is one of the fundamental laws of Bigfooty. The good guy never wins. Even if you ban these f'wits, they'll just be back with a new alias, saying the same old shit, and the cycle continues. (Bearing in mind that obviously none of the Mods in question see this as ban-worthy. Which is unfortunate.) So in a situation like this, something has to give, and it's always going to be the decent poster who bails because they just want to get away from being exposed to that kind of rubbish.

Appreciate you giving us an explanation, The Other Dean. That would have been difficult for you to write. However, now knowing the background of what has taken place makes us realise what you have gone through and we completely understand and respect the decision you have made.

Although I do not know many people on the BF North Board really well, I have had the pleasure of meeting some of you over the years, particularly when all the GC stuff was going on and you were one of those people. I hope to still see you at the games in the future! The BF North Board will miss you!! Take care!

I know exactly who it you are referring to. Poster is clearly unwell in the headial region - this does NOT in any way excuse their behaviour but I think indicates what kind of person is required to undertake such a crappy action.

I'm not going to say I know EXACTLY how you feel mate, because I don't. But I lost my best friend to exactly the same thing as your brother and if I'd spoken about it here and someone made fun of it, I can't say I'd be keen to hang around either.
