Do you know anything about Heeney brother? guessing same story not good enough to be drafted?
Absolutely no idea, I mainly know the players out of WA

Hanners has openly said he would like to finish his career in Victoria so if he goes meh.

Grundy is a worry as they have been rumors for a while he is not happy with his pay if he doesn't sign during 2015 then he is almost certain to go.

Bird will stay, Smith is the one we cannot lose but i thought he already got a 2yr extension?

Others may disagree but I think Hannebery should be asked this year if he would like to go home to Victoria and if the answer is yes put him on the trade table as we will get a lot more for him at the end of 2015 than we would at the end of 2016.

If the Trade Ban is lifted.. i would rather a quality young defender than a draft pick.

2015 free agents

Heath Grundy - Unrestricted (11 years)
Adam Goodes - Unrestricted (18 years)
Ted Richards - Unrestricted (10 years)

Richards and Goodes will not be a problem here but even though he can be a pain at times I don't want to lose Grundy at the end of the year as that will mean we will have no tall defenders with any experience.

2016 free agents

Craig Bird - Restricted (9 years)
Daniel Hannebery - Restricted (8 years)
Mike Pyke - Restricted (8 years)

Nick Smith - Unrestricted (10 years)

Pyke will probably not be around at the end of 2016 but as for the other players on that list I really do not want to lose any of them.

Teddy won't go anywhere he will retire a Sydney player. Rumour has it Reg is either looking for a much bigger contract or he is out of here, ala Malceski. Retirement fund basically.

Goodes will retire at end of 2015 if his body lasts that long.

Pykie will stay until retirement.

Hannas is a Blood and I would say a Blood for life. Loves it here, loves the club & the jumper just like Lukie.

Birdie is a NSW boy but he could move across town and would be quite welcome there I would think if the offer was good enough. But otherwise he presumably would stay with us.

Smithy is the main worry. Rumours are his management is considering a lot of offers. All Australian will do that. Suddenly noticed. If we can't match he is the other we would lose.

Yes what is your source on Hannas? Reg & Smithy's management are fielding bigger offers. A 2 year extension means nothing for smithy's management. They could get the bidding team to take over his contract thus leaving us with cap room.

That could be a big issue for us as we could lose both Richards and Grundy at the same time.

I am not surprised. Smith has the ability to shut down a small forward so much that 90% of the time when Longmire sticks Smith on someone he can simply forget about that matchup for the rest of the game as Smith will keep that guy really quiet. A player like that would be very valuable on the open market. I could see most teams being interested in him.

Unless teddy retires we won't lose him. But this year we should be looking to replace Reg just in case. Giving some of the young defenders a leg up. Getting experience is very important and we might just lose all out key defenders in the one year or one year apart. Must get game time into one of; McLaren, Aliir or Xav Richards or all of them.

In regards to Teddy I was actually thinking 2015 would be his last year before retiring rather than him going to another club.

wow i missed that, source?

Its out there, either after he won the rising star or the premiership in 2012.

As for Nick Smith...he'll be a one club player. Cap space will be found with the likes of Richards, Goodes, Shaw and Pyke having retired when his contract is up for resigning

I am not so sure how easy it will be to find cap space as I think in the 3rd or 4th year of his contract Buddy's wage is going to go up a lot.

That is true but as other users have mentioned so will the salary cap. I think its important to ponder the future of Lewis Jetta beyond his current contract as well. I would think given our need to resign talent in upcoming years that unless Lewis sets the world on fire again there will be a good chance he'll be back off to Perth. And as Bedford mentioned a while ago we were into the ears of a couple of players from other teams prior to the trade ban which would indicate a degree of flexibility in our current cap furthermore with Mal leaving that clears a bit of cap space as well. I think we'll do fine retaining our current back line talent which is probably the most vulnerable area of the ground for us right now and into the future.

and we may well see the end of Tippo, unless we turn him into a ruckman and drop his pay 50%

No way tippett goes. Look at his salary as an extension of Buddys. Bud is far more dangerous snd effective when he has a second key forward taking guys off him. Just look at Buddys performance in the first 6 rounds last year compared to when tippo came back.

and if that were the case what the Swans would have to do is find one of our B grade players and get pick 15 or something for them. There would be no incentive to trade a better play that we could get a high draft pick for because in this case pick 15 is worth the same as pick 5.
Hanners would get 15, just sayin..

I don't know why people are being so hard on Tip. He had an interrupted season in 2013 due to the 11 game ban. I think he did well considering the situation, having to come into the side mid season. Then he gets injured and has an interrupted start to 2014. Has a couple of games out during the season too. If we can get the big fella really fit he can win a game off his own boot. Buddy with a license to roam & Tip at FF with Sammy Reid taking the big ones at CHF and Goodes crumbing in the pocket. This will be a sensational forward line when they get the mix right.
