They do know crap.

He resigned this year, meaning he basically can't be traded unless something extraordinary happens. Take a look at the list and it inludes a few players like this. Danyl Pearce is listed as well ... wtf - I know it was talked about but he resigned a couple weeks ago.

Then you have chris McDermott who actually still thinks trade week is this week.

I wouldn't get too heated up about this. Every year the papers throw up names as potential trade bait, but very few of them come to anything.

The major complication with this year's trade week is that it is the precursor to the last uncompromised draft for a few years, with the imminent entry of GC and then Western Sydney. So there maybe a little more horse trading this year as those clubs with specific needs and shortfalls talent search to bolster their lists.

One thing we do have is depth and a relatively young list. So there will be interest from some clubs with respct to the availability of some of our group. The question is - would we likely benefit from trading someone like Walker? I can't see it personally.

Well said.

From memory the Sunday Footy Show listed Chris Knights, Kurt Tippet and Taylor Walker as trade bait

Shirley and Gill 'trade bait' is hillarious....trade bait is someone another club might find some value in and that the club would be willing to part with....

Walker, the future of our club, doesn't fit that bill....

Thanks but no thanks Jon Anderson (ya have to wonder how little he actually knows about us)...

Reilly (got one right), Douglas and Griffen would fit the bill as trade bait....

There is more chance of me hooking up with Penelope Cruz and Jessica Alba at the same time than there is of Taylor Walker being put up as a trade bate.

And my chances to hook up with Penelope Cruz and Jessica Alba are fat, buckleys, and that rude word that Nikki doesn't like mentioning :p

According to the fox sports afl rumor mill, Essendon are willing to "move heaven and earth" to land young Tex. BE WORRIED PEOPLE BE VERY WORRIED, THE RUMOR MILL IS WELL AND TRULY ON A ROLL:rolleyes:.

On a serious note, he has re-signed with us, and it has been much publicised that prior to us signing him up through the NSW scholarship, there were a number of clubs including the Hawks and the Pies who were very keen, but he signed with us because he LOVES the Adelaide Football Club. The fox sports report had 2 players from each club that could potentially be trade baits (with a lot of them being purely speculative, as they stated prior to going through each club). The main reason Tex's name keeps bobbing up is because he didn't play in the finals, and we all know why that is. Also i'm sure there are a number of players clubs will be willing to move "heaven and earth" for, but it's just not going to happen. I'd be willing to move heaven and earth for Higgins and Steve Johnson to be a crow, but will it happen, unlikely to impossible.

I would give my left nut for Walker- but clearly never going to happen. I need my left nut. And Walker won't leave the crows.

The media in Melbourne (particularly the Herald Sun) know next to nothing about any club outside of Melbourne, and just chuck whichever young promising kids name is there in the mix to beef up their rubbish articles come trade week.

Hell, earlier this year they had an article about Adamm Maric (a 176cm FP) from Melbourne re-signing for 2 years, and starting talking about how his ruckwork had been important for the Dee's (obviously Ivan Maric they were thinking of).

Pffft, Jon Anderson had JON as trade bait.....HE'S ****ING DELISTED

delistings don't actually take effect until the end of october - theoretically he's still under contract until then so eliginle to be delisted.

of course, nobody would be willing to trade for somebody they'd pick up cheaply (delistee) which is why more and more clubs are putting off delistings until after trade week so at least they may get something (anything) for the time etc put into the players that will be delisted.

Guys you better watch out because I am going to MOVE HEAVEN AND EARTH to become the PRESIDENT OF THE ENTIRE WORLD and then you guys will SUFFER UNDER THE ETERNAL REIGN OF CMNDSTAB

Sorry stabby, my plot to become CAPTAIN OF THE COSMOS is already well under way.

haha thats happened to me twice now.

Crikey, can we put the hyphen into re-signed?
Every time I see a post that Tex or Tip or anyone else has 'resigned' or is likely to resign I have heart palpitations.

Yes! Please!

I soil my pants every time I see that word.

uh.. ah... thats awkward! Would need at least a second round pick as well ;)

On topic- that same article lists Robert Shirley and Brent Reilly as trade bait- would that be an accurate assessment? Shirley played every game from round 12 on, and Reilly every game of the season averaging 20 touches...

Would've thought they'd both be required- particularly Reilly?

I wouldn't get two wrapped up in this being the last uncompromised draft. That title went to the 2008 draft. This one's as compromised as 2010-2012, just in a slightly different way.

This draft is weak and shallow. The first round is about 5 players deep, thereafter you're looking at players who'd be 2nd or 3rd rounders in any normal draft. Under these conditions, clubs are more willing to part with draft picks - Brock McLean would not have fetched pick #11 last year.

Expect this weeks trade period to be the busiest in a long time. With the draft all but bereft of talent, I'm tipping many clubs will go looking to top up with established talent rather than untalented youngsters. My money is on trade week seeing about 20 players change clubs.

Shirley's about 90% likely to be delisted. If a trade could be arranged, both club & player would do it in an instant.

Reilly may well be available as well, if the right offer came along. We wouldn't give him away for a packet of chips, but a fair deal would probably see him in the departure lounge. Reilly did NOT play every game of the season - he missed R10-11 and R13-14. He was eligible to play in the SANFL finals, so it's safe to say those absences weren't caused by injury.
