Predicted Scoreline - Carlton vs Essendon

Correct. The Blues have the talllest list in the AFL - the Weagles are the next tallest list, at an average of 1.5cm shorter. You might see Gibbs and Grigg on Saturday, both 190cm. I really hope Grigg plays - this guy has explosive pace and a booming left foot. Was on the Crows short-list before the Tiges slipped up and overlooked Sellar. In our defensive half we'll probably play Setanta (200cm 100kg+), Thornton (193cm), Bower (194cm), and Hartlett (196cm). Josh Kennedy at 198cm, will extert some physical presence at CHF I'm sure. Running wing/midfield types Russell and Walker are also around 189cm. We actually lack small in and under players. Murph at 180cm, looks like an absolute midget at training nowdays. Wayne Hughes has put a large emphasis on height and pace. The Dons, by contrast have drafted some excellent smaller midfield types, who I think will be good. Looking forward to the game, and hopefully this is the start of the resurgence of our 2 great clubs, although I think the Blues have a massive talent advantage over the Dons list at this stage. :)

Gee you can talk some dribble. Grigg was rated by some (me included) but the general thought was he was a late second round/third round pick. I think he will be a good player but no one was really thinking of him as a first rounder.

On a pure talent basis, the Blues by 60+ point. But the Don's have an old, experienced spine which our inexperienced lineup might find tough. The Blues also have the edge in height and pace. The outcome will be largely dependent on the teams the coaches select as well I suspect. Looks like the Dons will be going all-out. I think the Blues will be resting some of our senior players, but I still think we can win comfortably. Will be interesting who Sheeds uses to tag Murph and Gibbs. :)

your a knob :thumbsu:

List the other teams you expect to beat this year?

Incorrect - Grigg says so himself, that Adelaide were keen on him at #14.

However, no one knew Sellar would slip up that much, and Adelaide couldn't resist the local boy.

Grigg said:
initially there were indications he could be heading interstate as a first round draftee.

"I originally thought Adelaide at pick 14, but then when that didn’t happen, I had talked to Carlton in the week leading up to the draft and I was just hoping to get my name read out," Grigg said.

Jetta thought he was going first round as well. ;)
He says he thought he would go round 1 , what the players think and what the clubs think is generally two different things.Just because a player thinks that a club who has spoken to him may take him first round it doesnt make it so. Anyway like i said i rate him, i thought he would have been worth a punt with one of our second rounders but Carlton got him. I like him and i think he will prove a good pick :thumbsu:

in all honesty, I wasnt pleased when we selected him before Albert Proud .. but now knowing what we know about Proud - as well as his injury issues.

Griggy has grown on me.

Amazing how on pure talent you have managed to win the wooden spoon two years in a row and are odds on favourite for the hat trick.

You'll recall we tanked a late season game in 2005 V Dons , which gave us Murph and Kennedy. Didn't like having to do that, but we got a massive reward. Oh on 2006 - 15h or 16th - who cares. We got Bryce Gibbs - probably the best #1 pick in the past 25 years. We're all about winning flags, and now have the talent to do that. :)

Regard yourself pretty close to Pagan, do you? To have inside knowledge like that...you must be high up in their hierachy.

It wasn't rocket science. There were 2 options

1. Beat the Dons in a late season nothing game--> pick #5 (Pendlebury?)

2. "Lose" to the Dons---> Marc Murphy and Josh Kennedy.

Mm. I guess we were both happy with the result of that game. :)

If pagan were to tank, then i think he would of said to keep it respecatable like around 20 points, not 99.

Based on that, you only need to finish bottom 20 more times, and you'll have yourself an entire team of priority draft picks, providing Murphy and Gibbs play until they're 40.

The game meant nothing to us, and everything to the Dons. The margin is irrelevant. We did not want to win and lose Marc Murphy and Josh Kennedy. Simple as that. BTW the rules are stupid for allowing that situation to happen :)

You're not making sense now. Hughes has pretty much got the talent he needs now on every line. Development of that talent is the focus now. Our list development is a lot different to the Dons. We have an extreme youth policy, and encourage our younger players to take on leadership roles. Our recruitment emphasis is on height, pace and raw talent, even if these sort of players take a little longer to develop than ready made smalls. It's all about designing a young team to win a string of flags. I think the Don's drafted well, but Sheeds still has a tendency to go for a few top-ups every year, and keep some players that will never make it on your list for a year or 2 longer than they should. This has impeded your list development IMO. Sheeds wasn't so conservative in the past. :)

Height huh?....
Murphy, midget
Gibbs,Hgt - 187.4
Grigg, Hgt - 189.9
Benjamin, Hgt - 189.2
Anderson, Hgt - 187.6

Only real talls you recruited last year were Hampson, Hgt - 200.8 and Austin, Hgt - 193.4

Wow! You have tall players. Maybe we shold just draft tall people, they must be good:rolleyes:

Maybe you should look at the list of playes again, as none of the players on your list have any skill whatsoever.

FWIW - I think we'll get up by .. 10 pts.

I think we match up pretty well with Essendon. Shame Gumby isnt playing - would have loved to have seen him battle it out with Jarrad Waite (who has been impressive at CHB during the pre season).
