Re: Prelim Final - Collingwood vs Hawthorn - Post Match Discussion

That win meant more to me than any football match ever has. My old man bred me black and white. We went to every game together. He died yesterday. The seat I reserved for him on Monday was empty. Thank you Collingwood.

The Aftermath

Emotion filled shake up of the game. Best and at the same time worst game i've ever seen.

WELL DONE - Reid (playing injured)
Swan - amazing
Pendlebury - Very good
Jolly - Heroic
Luke Ball - the usual his so underrated, saints must be SPEWING
Tarrant - WoW
Maxwell - His back
Cloke - Very very good
B.Johnson - Great run and playing injured
J.Blair - almost BoG for mine, when we were playing crap he stood up
Dawes - Finally back to form thank god.

SOLID - L.Davis - had ups and downs, umps didnt help him
Sidebottom - Did some good things but not enough
Toovey - Typical toovey performance played a good defensive roll
Thomas - Looked rusty, hopefully he'll gain confidence from the tackle on rioli and have a massive game next week.
Krakour - Had not many chances but offered good hands in the midfield
O'Brian - Few mistakes but good run
Shaw - Looked rusty like thomas, but had some very nice passes

POOR - L.Brown - Didnt give us anything around the ground, hale well n truly beat him
A.Didak - Lost his speed and struggling, will stay in the team though.
S.Wellingham - Shocking kick in the last that almost lost us the game, hardly gave us anything in the midfield.
D.Beams - Goodbye beams, another embarrassing performance in a finals game. You are gone, Fasolo gets his chance, and his taken his chances the whole year.

What do you guys think about tonights performance from our boys?

Also our strategy seemed really poor, they had a freeman behind the ball the whole game who continually got our quick kicks forward, and gave too much space to Mitchell.

Re: Prelim Final - Collingwood vs Hawthorn - Post Match Discussion

Thought Hawthorn tested us all over the park: attacking, defensive and most importantly, they tested our character. We are in the grand final because we passed on all these areas.

WHAT AN AWESOME WIN!!!!

Re: Prelim Final - Collingwood vs Hawthorn - Post Match Discussion

Ok reality check - we should have lost and will lose to Geelong if we meet them - especially now that so many of our boys are injured....Cheering for the Coaster tomorrow! Reality blows.

But in the meantime

Re: The Aftermath

Beams will not be dropped. Was just an anomaly. Will bounce back.

Dids was the sub, give him a break.

Agree with mostly everything else.

Re: Prelim Final - Collingwood vs Hawthorn - Post Match Discussion

Very lucky that you guys had the umps on your side tonight especially in the last.
Celebrations like you guys won the grand final were just plain silly after such a corrupt win + the "Cooooolllinnnngwoooood' chant when you guys were 3 points down? umm?

Cant wait till Geelong belts you guys by 80!

Last quarter we had the better of the umps, but the first three quarters, they were the extra men for Hawthorn.

Clearly they bet on the Hawks early, and once our odds took a nose dive, plunged on us. Sif' an Essendon supporter can talk about fair umpiring.

Well done boys, clawed our way back from adversity :thumbsu:

Re: The Aftermath

If his the sub he should be fresh and be able to have some sort of impact, regardless its his form over the whole year not just this game.

Anomaly? how about the 2010 grand finals. The coaches are still fuming over his performances in those, his on a very fine line.

Re: Prelim Final - Collingwood vs Hawthorn - Post Match Discussion

We Bradburied the Bradburies.

Absolutely no reason for us to have won that game tonight. Of the 10 best players on the ground, at least 7 were Hawks. We were thoroughly out-coached, out-hustled for 3 quarters and yet somehow got over the line.

3 Votes Travis Cloke.

The Hawks can raffle the rest I don't give a shit.
Best game Travis Cloke has ever played.

Sorry for your loss mate. I hope this miraculous win gives you a tiny bit of joy.

Re: Prelim Final - Collingwood vs Hawthorn - Post Match Discussion

Credit to both teams really.

hawks were far more composed with the ball. When we had the ball, they pressured us ++ and caused scrappy disposals, hurried kicks hacked forwards.

We just were pallowed to get our flow going.

But we won a preliminary final against a very good opponent, so we must have done something right.

Swan, Ball, Cloke were fantastic. Pendles despite 32 possessions had little influence with them, but was much better late. One offs like Daisy's tackle, Leon's snap.

Dawes showed a bit more tonight aswell. Maxy I thought was very good, Tarrant aswell.

Didak got a few clean touches in the last that were important I thought.

Not quite sure how we won, hopefully that was equiv. of GF1 last year and next week we'll be a bit smoother and composed and search out better options esp going forward...gees would need to, whoever we play.

Re: Prelim Final - Collingwood vs Hawthorn - Post Match Discussion

Probably didn't deserve it, Hawks were better than us for the majority of the match. But **** it, we are into another granny, get set for a HUGGGEEEEE week.

digging deep after being beaten down then getting back up and landing th final blow. Its like the rocky movies. Heart of champions.

Blair was fantastic, setup Dawes and Cloke for goals when everyone else was kicking it on the boundary for stoppages. Blair went trough the corridor away from hawks defense and got Pies goals from the 2 forwards.

Beams was beyond mediocre.

Sidebottom didnt have the urgency playwd as if he had 5 secs to spare needs to quicken upn and so does everyone else.

Didnt like Pies tried to out handball hawks out of the middle when that was their strength.

Thomas looked rusty and out of synch can only get better.

Davis was rocky but held on. Need to play it smarter next game.

Wellingham was scared of physical contact.

Krakouer was also scared.

Maxwell was good.

O brien was rocky, that fumble off a bad kick off a team mate was uncharacteristic.

Shaw looked flat.

Ball was gun.

Jolly was decent.

Tarrant played solidly.

Reid looked rusty.

Dawes was good.

Cloke won us the game.

It reminded me heaps of last years Drawn Grand final. Pies got outplayed but did enoug to not lose.

Cant do that against Cats.

Cats look like favourites.

Wow what a match, congrats to the pies Cloke and Swan are absolute gun's. Never really rated Dane Swan before tonight but geez what a gun. But anyway even though we were probably the better team, Good team's always find a way to win. Good luck next week.

Re: Prelim Final - Collingwood vs Hawthorn - Post Match Discussion

I thought in the Last 2 Minutes I was going to have a Hear Attack

haha it wasn't as stressful as the drawn grand final when with 40 seconds to go when the scores were level they pumped it to the pack 25 meters out.

When Daisy laid that tackle on Cyril at the end that was it - massive fist pumps.

Re: Prelim Final - Collingwood vs Hawthorn - Post Match Discussion

Thanks 'Portrabble' I enjoyed watching your spud team getting smashed to. They don't even deserve to be in finals. Btw our supporters were chanting to get our boys up and running. Not that its anything to do with you. Most of us on here admit we were lucky to win, but just dont try and say its corrupt. We've had anti Collingwood bias for over 100 years

Re: The Aftermath

Thought Dids performed better in the 2010 grand finals than some players today, and not by a small margin.

Fasolo would be lucky to get a shot, but Wood and Goldsack look certainties.

Re: Prelim Final - Collingwood vs Hawthorn - Post Match Discussion

Sick of reading "we probably didn't deserve it" "the hawks were the better side" bla bla bla... Bullsh!t we won, enjoy it. Don't sour the win by trying to be gracious, be ruthless... Walk over the top of anyone to get to that 16th premiership and offer no apologies... GO PIES!!!

Re: Prelim Final - Collingwood vs Hawthorn - Post Match Discussion

Tis fact Hagla.

Hawthorn outplayed us for 3Qs.

They were more desperate, more organised and simply were better than us.

We held our nerve and rallied....a bit of experience coming through and belief after last year. After getting through that I am more confident than most, it was a huge hurdle....one more effort and back to back is ours!!

swannie lifted and with Cloke won us the game.

Tarrant was awesome. Seriously I'm bias but he was sensational

Blair showed why we should never have discussed dropping him or him starting as the sub

Maxwell and Dawes are back!!

Wellingham was clearly hampered and shouldn't have taken the kick. Shawry tried to tell him!
