Can't believe Chamberlain was even made an emergency. They must have a very shallow pool of umpires to select from!

I suspect it is a face saving exercise - they couldn't possibly have been given the GF gig, but the AFL perhaps wanted to avoid the impression that they were completely dumping those three clowns (which they were) by making Razor the token retainee.

Derek Humphrey-Smith, retired umpire just on SEN on The Run Home.

"A very disappointing weekend from the umpires."

"Saturday night's umpiring far worse than Friday night."

"North Melbourne is entitled to feel very aggrieved."

"Jacobs non decision for tripping was a shocker. Margetts must have been unsighted but why didn't one of the other two call it?"

"Decision against Dal Santo should never have been paid." (Mark Allen chipped in with "If they are going to pay that then they will have to pay another 500 every game". Ox being the idiot he is thought it was okay.)

"The Waite marking decision was the worst of the lot".

"Could not understand why Swallow coathanger did not lead to a reversal".

He also stated that both Waite and Swallow need to get the diving out of their game over the off-season. Seemed to be suggesting that Spitta might have not got the reversal because he over-emphasised the fall.

Also stated that Ray would not have been his choice for emergency in the GF. Comfortable with the Friday night umpires getting the GF, but only because the AFL had come out and supported the two contentious early decisions. He personally believed both were wrong.

How refreshing. Pity he is isn't in charge of the umpires.

Its the 1st time ive ever heard an ex - umpire come out and berate the umpiring of a game and the umpires in question.

There wasn't much more he could say really, all of those decisions defy belief.

Everyone in the footy world, bar delusional West Coast supporters know that the umpires took any chance North had in that game.

A big credit to our boys to be so competitive when they were clearly being shafted. It must have been deflating as a player to be on the end of that rubbish and conversely West Coast would have gained confidence knowing that the umpires were giving them everything.

Still can't get over the weekend. I haven't posted on here but I've been reading. I live and die by the results of this football club. I pour my heart and soul in every season in hope that I can have that elusive feeling of ultimate success.

To have our "best" 6 umpires completely incompetent, yes incompetent, at understanding and making decisions based on the evidence infront of them is embarrassing and a disgrace. It might not have changed the result, but I cant think of another sport in the world that is impacted so much by an umpires incompetence to do their job.

Our competition is a f***ing laughing stock until this changes.

I hear ye re the AFL umpiring standards and subsequent fallout from last week mate but, as my fellow soccer nuts know, there's far worse negative impacts from incompetent reffing in that game.

For the first time in a long time, I am not looking forward to watching the Grand Final, either at the game or on TV. Normally I try to get tickets as an AFL member and have had more than my share of luck there and can go along and align with one of the clubs playing.

This year I just have this empty emotion about the game. I just feel that those useless individuals in charge last weekend, took away any chance we had. Sure the Eagles probably would have got up and won, but momentum is such an important thing in football and we will never know what might have happened on a "level playing field".

Because I believe that the Eagles did not win the game on merit alone, I just can't come to terms with supporting them, albeit in any case with little enthusiasm.

Bring on Trade week.

I completely agree. For the first time in my memory, I'm just not particularly excited about this year's GF. I don't know if it's the disappointment from last week, or the fact that I'm not overly enthused at the prospect of either team winning. West Coast, for obvious reasons, and Hawthorn because a three-peat will have half the world proclaiming they're the equal or better of the great Brisbane team of 2001-2004, and as good as Hawthorn are, they're not a shade on those Lions.

You're mainly right, but take your own advice re time to build a bridge - your losing effort in the EF is ancient history and the continuing whinges about it from Richmond supporters is really boring.
Yea but they would have beat Sydney and beat west coast and played in a GF this week.

I completely agree. I told an ump loving mate yesterday, imagine if the rub of the green were completely reversed. We would have won. How much by? I don't know. But what I do know is, is that if they were behind in the last quarter and the umpiring had been shafting them, maybe they would start to fumble and drop marks as the pressure built etc.
Anyway, the show goes on. I'll be watching with a couple of mates (one a hawk) at the arden st bar in Brissy just so I can drink lots of beer really. Once the game is over, the tv goes off, the music gets cranked and we play pool. Will still be alright :thumbsu:

Ah we'll looking forward to reading the "umpire bitching" thread on the Eagles forum if they lose the GF. Pretty sure it'll be all their fault even if its a 10 goal margin!
Would they be the same WCE supporters who called any NMFC supporters complaining about the Preliminary Final as whingers whilst they whinged about the appointment of Stevic as a Hawthorn stooge?

Pretty much how I feel. Normally I'd be leading the WC fan bus this week, but last Saturday left a real sour taste in the mouth. Look we pissed away some opportunities and may not have been good enough anyway, but it was hardly a level playing field.

Smelt to me of an AFL driven agenda with the umpiring last week.

Probably cooked up by the AFL Integrity Unit.

West Coast supporters are talking about the challenge of travelling and needing to play their best but really they should be focusing on how to adapt to playing with just 22 players as opposed to the 25 they had last week.

When you look at the second goal we kicked, when Waite marked and then magnificently switched the ball which ended up in Brown's goal, I have no doubt the umpires became very concerned that we were a good chance to win. So from then on they penalised Waite and others at every opportunity and allowed West Coast players to infringe in the marking contest to prevent another switch. And of course they paid frees to West Coast in front of goal for nothing. I genuinely thought we'd win after kicking that goal because tactically that switch is exactly how you beat West Coast over there.

That was a disgusting umpiring performance and we must let those umpires know about it when they next officiate in one of our games.

I feel the same. We may not have won last week anyway, but what those three halfwits did do was take away any chance we had. All season you fight to get to a prelim and then those three blind mice torch you. They are nobodies, but they made it all about them.
