I'll have a stab at our 30:

Ponting, Clarke, Watson, Warner, Haddin, Paine, White, Mussey, Dussey, S.Marsh, Ferguson, Smith, Christian, Hopes, Doherty, Keith, Klinger, Harris, Lee, McKay, Johnson, Starc, Hazlewood, J.Pattinson, Hastings, Khawaja, Maddinson, Butterworth, Quiney, Ronchi.

It was just a quick go, so have I missed anybody obvious? Keith and Maddinson are included more as tips of the hat rather than serious consideration, and is based on their selection in the PM's XI. The selectors may not go down that road though.

I would be surprised if Hodge isn't in..
Obviously this conversation has been done to death but he's our best OD batsman and heading in to a World Cup you throw the future out the door and pick ya best side.

If we want to even have a chance at winning the World Cup we need to include Hodge in the squad, Inside Cricket mentioned the other day that Hodge had averaged something like 100 before he was out early against SA.

But we obviously won't win, to be honest, if we have Ponting and his mates in the team, we will struggle to beat Bangladesh.

Travis Birt would be in, in front of Khawaja, Keath, Klinger, Quiney, Ronchi, as would George Bailey. They were the stars of the A team tri series at the start of the season that the players listed above did not even play in.

Here's my 30, in bold the final 15 (think the finalised squad is 15...)

1. Ponting
2. Clarke
3. M.Hussey
4. D.Hussey
5. Marsh
6. Watson
7. Warner
8. Haddin
9. Paine
10. White
11. Birt
12. Maddinson
13. Christian
14. Ferguson
15. Smith
16. Bailey
17. Butterworth
18. Harris
19. Doherty
20. Hauritz
21. Lee
22. Johnson
23. Starc
24. Hazlewood
25. McKay
26. Siddle
27. Pattinson
28. Bollinger
29. Hastings
30. Tait

So...

1. Watson
2. Haddin
3. Ponting
4. White
5. Clarke
6. Hussey
7. Christian
8. Doherty
9. Harris
10. McKay
11. Bollinger

12-15: Ferguson, Smith, Lee, Johnson

Bailey and Birt, yep, quite right. For some reason I tend to overlook Tassie players when going off the top of my head. Replace Keath and Maddinson for them.

From the Vics FB
Stop it! Eight Victorians name in the Aussie's initial squad of 30 for the ICC Cricket World Cup - Congrats HODGEY, Huss, Hasto, Ronnie, J-Patto, Sids, McKay & Whitey!

Ricky Ponting (c) Michael Clarke (vc) Doug Bollinger, Dan Christian SA, Xavier Doherty, Callum Ferguson, Brad Haddin, Ryan Harris, John Hastings, Nathan Hauritz, Brad Hodge, James Hopes, David Hussey, Mike Hussey, Mitchell Johnson, Brett Lee, Shaun Marsh, Andrew McDonald, Clint McKay, Stephen O’Keefe, Tim Paine, James Pattinson, Peter Siddle, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Shaun Tait, Adam Voges, David Warner, Shane Watson, Cameron White

This is great for Tasmania as far as the domestic comp goes. Only Paine and Doherty selected. Bit weird how there was no Birt or Bailey or even Hilfy.

So I was 25/30, not bad.

Not unhappy with Hodge, the guy's clearly a gun. O'Keefe as a third spinner seems a bit overkill to me, would rather give Haze the boost. I understand Hopes, been a solid contributor for Aus over the years, but to me he's done. I would've preferred Buttsy to McDonald, but I can understand it. The only selection I just CANNOT UNDERSTAND is Adam Voges. Why? I know he's not going to make the final squad, but seriously, WHY??? Why do we have an obsession with this spud?

Thats good from a Tigers fan's perspective but we have been dominating the domestic competition in recent years, would have expected at least one or two more in the top 30 players in the country. Would only have Punter and X in Australia's best XI though so I won't complain

That'd be my 15 to tour with based on the squad.

Got to justify the CA contract.

Beer was picked for the Perth Test "With the world cup in mind" and didn't even make the squad...

Got to justify the CA contract.
Oh and it seems my initial reaction on Butterworth/McDonald was correct.

Look at their averages:

Butterworth: Batting 27, Bowling 26
McDonald: Batting 31, Bowling 40

I know who I'd rather. McDonald is a fine cricketer, but not sure he's a limited overs cricketer. It's all pointles really as neither would have/will make the squad, but still.

England has been added, although I believe there should be another 4 names on that list which Cricinfo supplied. (I had to go to the ECB site to add Prior, Shezad, Stevens and Rashid)

ENGLAND: Andrew STRAUSS, James ADAMS, James ANDERSON, Ian BELL, Ravi BOPARA, Tim BRESNAN, Stuart BROAD, Paul COLLINGWOOD, Alastair COOK, Steven DAVIES, Jade DERNBACH, Steven FINN, James HILDRETH, Craig KIESWETTER, Michael LUMB, Eoin MORGAN, Samit PATEL, Kevin PIETERSEN, Liam PLUNKETT, Matt PRIOR, Adil RASHID, Ajmal SHEZAD, Darren STEVENS, Graeme SWANN, James TREDWELL, Chris TREMLETT, Jonathan TROTT, Chris WOAKES, Luke WRIGHT, Michael YARDY

My picks in bold
