Agree, Penski it is distressing, but it is real and this is what can happens when someones head hits the ground hard.

im surprised the umpires haven't asked this to be looked at by the VAFA. It's not like a quick incident that can easily be forgotten. Surely with this aftermath we can all see, they should have written this up as 'an investigation should follow'
Saying that, the Carey guy would be unlucky to get 3 weeks.

Surely the VAFA would need to know why the game was 40 minutes late, then they would want to know why an ambulance was called. A clear understanding of these two would have seen a review of the game and would have seen the incident. I had similar incident 5 years ago. Ambulance called. Player was reported on the day and he got 5. More serious than the latest incident.

However if a player can get 2 weeks for front on contact (doesn't even have to hit the player in the head). He may get higher, assuming he was cited.

Just watched the footage. Pretty much the definition of a sling tackle, and looked very dangerous. We've had blokes done for 2 weeks because the tackle finished up "too close to the fence", despite no malice.

I'm not saying the Carey player meant it, but it sets a precedence for the rest of the year.

I don't think you need 20 mins of footage of a guy lying on the ground being attended to and the ambo's coming etc. Surely the VAFA can edit this out. There's just no need for it.

Sorry Penski, I have to strongly disagree with your comments re the 20 minutes of additional footage. Every club should show their trainers and players on what to and what not to do if one of their players is in a similar situation.

I was horrified at the way one of his team mates rolled him on his back. Have a look at his neck position when this team mates rolls him. This is not a "dig" at his team mate, but is should be a warning to all trainers and players on what not to do, and all clubs should be educated on what to do in this situation.

Once the trainers took over, from my understanding they did everything right.

Leave it to the trainers, medical staff and paramedics to handle situations like this.

Then we'll agree to disagree. To me its just voyerism.

If the club and player consent to it being part of a training video specifically for trainers and medical staff then so be it, but it doesn't need to be there for all to see.

FWIW yep

I'd suggest that the Carey player certainly meant it, and look how he sort of wangled himself out of the pack quickly, especially when he saw a certain Parkdale player heading towards him.

I've watched the video now.
Of course he didnt mean it. I've been on the giving and receiving end of tackles like this and fortunately none have ended with serious injury, however i am sure all have been intended to be hard tackles, no more. I know i have never intended to concuss someone with a tackle, and short of a full-nelson, struggle to see how you could claim that he intended to hurt the player in this instance?
As far as getting out of a pack quickly, why wouldnt he? Would you prefer him to stand and punch on?
I agree with the other sentiment here.
2 Weeks for a sling-tackle makes sense, though if no injury(which will be the case as grounds soften) would it even have been a question of suspension(referring partly to my rebuttal above)?
Good to see Parkdale and Old Carey people looking after the player, but worrying he was turned so quickly onto his back.
Finally Boland is a gun, and will certainly have a few B-grade sides worried and adds a few goals a game through leadership and presence, whether he kicks them himself or not.

Before u go having a dig at his team mates for rolling him over you should notice one of the players who rolls him over is from old Carey. But yes he definitely shouldn't have been moved, I'm not sure why the players involved would think it a good idea to roll him onto his back anyway

Thank was my point. Not trying to finger/blame anyone. I was stating that the video is a great learning tool for what to and what not to do in those circumstance.

Should be shown to all clubs.

See it's video is owned by the VAFA, no permission would be needed, but it would be good to inform player of its use.

Tips this week to add to last weeks grand total of 1.

All the home teams for me.
Old Brighton to beat Parkdale. Parkdale FF is a gun.
Fitzroy to beat AJAX. Only picking this on home ground advantage.
Old Carey to beat Peninsula. They bloody better win. Ben Smithwick's 150th game.
Mazenod to beat Old Scotch. OS slow to start, Mazenod will exploit this
St. Bernard's to beat Monash. Home ground.

Agree with all except OS V Nodders. OS will finish all over them in the end.......seem to be a fit team, can run games out.

Tips:
Old Brighton v Parkdale - Old Brighton seem to be doing it quite easily. Parkdale have definitely improved since last year, however, I can't see them winning this one. Brighton by 43 points.
Fitzroy v AJAX - Can't say that either team take my fancy. AJAX played some good footy last week against Scotch whereas Fitzroy gave the Snow dogs 30 scoring shots. Will take the Jackas by 3 goals.
Old Carey v Peninsula - I'm pretty sure that all my wrong tips have been on Carey, but I'm sticking with them. SURELY they can't lose this. I think they'll come out firing. Carey by 40 points.
Mazenod v Old Scotch - Mazenod have been solid so far in the jump to Prem B. Scotch have been there abouts for 4 games, doing what they need to do. I think they'll do the same again. Scotch by 29 points.
St Bernards v Monash - You'd be a fool to tip against St Bernards. Snow dogs by 35 points.

FWIW I'll take those

Didn't think about tipping the undermanned Ashes! Just a great win full of character. Lets hope this gets the season back on track.

27 for the Bernard's is a gun. Monash looked a fraction too quick in most positions on a beautiful deck out there.

Incredible result if undermanned.
For me the four is now locked.
Sure I'm not afraid of an early call...
Brighton, Scotch, Snowdogs, Monash Blues.
I'm offering $2.45 if you believe this top 4 will not eventuate.
