How do the VAFA make the gap smaller in BGrade. Would a 12 team A-Grade competiton help this?

Of the top 3, two are school based, this has to be beneficial. They have a school recruiting pool to fish from. Look at OS, how many year 12's do they have playing footy....... 65+? A huge advantage over a Beauy, Vultures or OG's. who have absolutely "zip"... The VAFA cant regulate or legislate against ( and nor should they) figures like these. It really is a jungle out there and it gets down to the survival of the fittest..

It is pretty clear already that season 2019 is "done and dusted". OS v UB's to play off in the GF. I do
agree O Cauf. are on the rise but not quite enough this year.
Somewhat disappointing and a worry that the other teams are so far off the pace. Not solely due to OS and UB
having superstars in abundance, far from it. More that the others are so poor and getting poorer.

While current results indicate 3 teams are out in front, I don't think we can say it is done and dusted.

1. Beauy may get on a roll and be a lot more dangerous than we currently think.
2. Finals football is a different beast and can spring surprises. Caulfield ran Blacks very close in the 1st Semi last year, despite regular season form suggesting a much wider gap.
3. Injuries at the wrong time of year to vulnerable areas of each squad can have a huge impact.

I'm quite bullish about the Fields this year, as they already have had some injury challenges to key players (& I don't mean BJ) and it hasn't slowed them up yet. Depth looks very good with the Reserves & Thirds racking up big wins in these early rounds.

Let's see how it all sits after Rd 9.

Keano, you have basicly agreed with my assessment..What you say about injuries and avails is quite right. Happens to all teams through a season, but the result of who finishes top to bottom wont change. Stronger Clubs will cope better than the weaker Clubs.

Also pay attention to the magoos - a club with dominant seniors and bottom-dwelling ressies during the year can all come apart very quickly when travel and injuries take their toll.

Purely guessing because I dont have the "stats". Im thinking this wouldnt happen much, if at all. It doesnt make sense to have Dom 1sts and very poor Ressies. There has to be a degree of talent from the very top to bottom within any Club. Its not a "waste land" between the two levels...

It does happen FF. Lose a GF, players retire or follow the coach to greener pastures, injuries happen, all of a sudden there's just enough cattle to keep the club surviving in seniors and no depth.

I'd agree here. Looking at the other end of the table, I'd have grave fears for Old Haileybury and Fitzroy based on the lack of quality depth. Fitzroy, unlike the Bloods, at least have a Thirds so don't lack numbers.

To be honest what drives my faith in the Fields is based a lot on who is still playing in the Reserves.

Top teams in B Grade are going pretty well of late. Snowdogs were that good last year it wasn’t funny, and not too bad on top of A after three rounds this year. Ditto Old Brighton the year before. It seems a trend, and teams that good just expose the middling teams in B. Not sure if anyone needs to hit the panic button about grade structure though.

This rounds looks a little tougher to pick:
St Bedes Mentone v Fitzroy - I reckon this will depend on whether Hartung plays, but the Tigers just at home.
Monash Blues vs Old Geelong - OG's are used to a big paddock and won't mind this away game.
Parkdale v Beaumaris - The Sharks are just going a bit better.
Caulfield v Uni Blacks - VFL selection will play a role here. Think Blacks are travelling marginally better and have less injuries, but heart says Caulfield.
Old Haileybury v Old Scotch - This could get ugly.

St Bedes should put away Fitzroy.
OGGs. Just can’t find a reason to tip Monash unfortunately.
Beaumaris in a tight one. Have played the worst three teams, this will show where both teams sit.
Blacks in match of the round. Even though it’s at Caulfield, I think blacks have the class.
OS by 80+

Really solid win by the Fields in what was a very even contest in tough conditions.

The match up in 2 weeks against Scotch will be huge.

What is going on St Bedes, think they have gone in favourite for every match they have played and continually under perform.. they have a few playing at Sandy but surely something deeper going on here.

Does the Fitzroy/St Beds result show that the top 3 teams are that much better then everyone else and Fitzroy aren't that bad or are St Beds just a poor team this year? Anyone see that game?

Based on what I saw the week before, Fitzroy are not that bad and have plenty of spirit. From what I have seen of St Bede's they are breaking down up forward and are not converting their opportunities.

Right now I would say Monash & Haileybury are looking more vulnerable than Fitzroy, but there is a long way to go.

The VAFA administration needs to urgently address the uneveness in the various sections, particularly the top two sections.
Reduce the size of all sections to eight teams.
Play each team three times, two semi finals, 1 v 4 and 2 v 3 and then a grand final = 23/24 week season.
Clubs chase AFL / VFL players to try to be competitive. Some clubs do this better than others, the others just get left behind. It really is a jungle out there.
I just wonder what the other leagues and the supporters think about so many former AFL players playing for VAFA clubs. It is just a huge joke. Do they really think the competition is amateur?
If Brendon Goddard is granted a permit to play in the VAFA this season after playing in Tasmania on Good Friday, our former great VAFA will become just another suburban competition.
Maybe all former AFL and VFL players should be reinstated, that is bring back the old reinstatement system
Reduce the number of former AFL players each team can play each week to say 2, home grown talent excepted.
Reduce the PPAs per team to say 35. The current PPA of 45 per team is too high.
Some comments please.

Beaumaris v Caulfield - The Sharks have improved but this is too tough a task.
Old Scotch v St Bedes Mentone - By a bit.
Old Geelong v Old Haileybury - At home, too good.
Monash Blues v Fitzroy - The Lions seem to be travelling better.
University Blacks v Parkdale - Uni to bounce back.

Beaumaris v Caulfield - The Sharks have improved, need to stop the whinging and get on with it.
Old Scotch v St Bedes Mentone - Bedes are overatted.
Old Geelong v Old Haileybury - At home, too good and that ground is a nightmare.
Monash v Roys - Surely this is their chance
University Blacks v Parkdale - Interesting game this one, Vultures are slowly gelling, big test.

No to change in structure. Overreaction. Agree somewhat re comment on amateur status. Blokes shouldn’t be transferring between comps during the season.

Same for me too please. Hoping Monash have been doing some goal kicking practice. Woeful last week and cost them 4 points.
