Mr Ford, how should the APSVAFA try and stymie the influence of the wealthy private school teams? Or is the league doomed for good.
Don't you start the Mr crap like old mate . No real answer really , can't turn back now , it just got out of hand

Its not a VAFA issue.....its a societal issue. High quality School footy doesn't exist outside of the expensive private schools..the catholic system isn't as strong as it was once I'm constantly told. Aussie rules footy has limited appeal to new Australians and less well off communities (strong clubs by and large come form well off areas with very few exceptions). Many are saddened by this (myself included) and a few will point to scholarships (very small percentage) but overall its cant be doubted that Brighton Grammar probably has 3 or 4 senior teams (year 11 & 12) and Brighton High would have none and would be highly unlikely even 20 of its students play football locally. The points system is a farce and only entrenches the advantage of clubs with school feeder teams. Unfortunately I don't see a rules based solution; if one is needed.

Just my opinion.

Never any fact apart from that they are 2 rich clubs , what is wrong with that i may ask , did i bag anyone

You are basically insinuating that if you are a rich club (by inference you have money abound) then success will be guaranteed.
Not so. Colls are "middle of the road" on Club expenditure. Not drowning in player numbers, check our 2nds list and the other teams. Fundamently you make an il informed assumption based on ignorance.

And I wonder how much of the money promised by the AFL today will actually go into grassroots development and not into AFL-employed officers and NAB League related junior development programmes. I am sure that every grassroots league in Australia is not going to get a bank transfer today with a four or five five-figured amount and an email which says 'I am sure that this will help your league. Cheers, Gil'.

From what I have heard, the last lot of money promised (about $8m a year or so ago) hasn't been distributed yet.

So how do you justify paying a chairman of selectors a fair bit of cash . You would know what is paid off the ground
Nominate a $$ figure T Model....Then we will all know.... I think your "guilding the lilly" a bit, in fact I would be surprised if we even
pay a COS. As I said, we dont have the expenditure of a Xavs...

Mr Footy, it’s the first time I’ve heard St Kevin’s referred to as rich! May I present the St Kevin’s player points total on the weekend as exhibit A, with the Ormond points from their game on Saturday as exhibit B.

Now, this may only be me, but perhaps the Ormond players aren’t as talented as the SKOB otherwise they would be in premier division?

Just like North Melbourne aren’t as talented as the Sydney Swans, otherwise they too, would be playing finals.

Regardless, I also noticed the Premier C competition is still going, what a stiff up by the previous administration. B50A2737-A54A-43AB-AB0D-C7C712459D34.png A0BB9F58-F036-43BA-A5C7-E260B227E36B.png

Mr Footy, my club can’t afford a COS.

Comparing a school team with a district team is like comparing apples to oranges, you would think.

Schools have a couple of hundred Year 12 students come through each year while clubs in some areas of Melbourne can barely scrape 20 together by comparison because they are in a high-migrant area where soccer is more prevalent.

Of course, the district clubs are more likely to use more points.

2 RICH SCHOOLBOY TEAMS !
Wesley College has been accepting female students since the late 70s, and since the late 80s the school has been co-educational at all year levels, so the premise that these are two schoolboy only teams is a little from the truth. It also has nothing to do with VAFA football I know, but I digress.

I know for a fact Collegians does not have a chairman of selectors. We have a football director who does an absolutely sterling job with very limited resources. We also happen to have a gun senior coach in Jared Rivers who has brought into the club two terrific assistant coaches in John Meesen and Jordie McKenzie. Those three make up the senior coaching and selection panel. I know that everyone at the club cannot speak more highly of Jared, John and Jordie, so why would they need a chairman of selectors to oversee them? All three have played and coached plenty of footy, including playing nearly 300 games of AFL footy between the three of them, coaching / playing at VFL and SANFL, plus coaching at local level, so why would you need a chairman of selectors overseeing them?

Also, Ormond v Collegians was a tremendous rivalry throughout the 1980s and early 1990s, when a gun monders outfit managed to beat Collegians in a couple of premierships. This is still talked about today. Some all greats of both clubs played in this era, Barnes, Kingston, Hibbins, Galbraith.
It was a genuine rivalry. I wasn't around back then, but I'm sure in 25 years time this SKOB v Collegians modern rivalry from 2017 to present will have a similar aura about it. Both sides have some gun players, Michie, Mirra, Jok, Critchley, so let's enjoy a couple of top sides going at it once again in September than wallowing in negativity.

I wish people on here would remember it's amateur football, played for the love of the game and to win premierships, which is what footy should be all about.

GO LIONS!

Couldn't tell you....what I could tell you in the next draft will have more kids from Sandringham and Glen Iris than it will from Thomastown or St Albans. Footballers (good, bad, and indifferent) are increasing coming from well heeled parts of town or the country.

Also, just quietly Mr Bedford, your namesake, a terrific man from all reports, was again chairman of selectors down at the Trott in the previous century. Again, this was before my time, but I have seen some photos of him up on the wall in team photos listed as the chairman of selectors.

Weird statement.

Mr Olotripo, just for shits and giggles, how many non Wesley students do you have in your best team? And how many of those played AFL or VFL?

See you Saturday for a pie!
