Just a bit of dealing and wheeling here in the spirit of the season.
Would we consider sending presty to the demons for Johnstone??Is it realistic?? Those supporters seem to be very disgruntled with Nicholson and and Holland so they would need some experiance next to their 'next big thing' in Rivers. Could mean we hold on to pick seven. Might be sweyed into throwing in a sweetner like Mcgough or second round pick.

Ok do yourself a little table. In the left column list all the forwards that have consistently beaten Presti. In the right column list all the games ever where Johnston has beaten his opponent. Then ask yourself a simple question. Key Position player v Midfielder.

Wakelin will retire in 1 or 2 years and we have NO other key defenders. Clement is too short and needed otherwise anyway. Walker doesn’t know how to get a kick yet. Maxwell MAY develop into a lightweight under sized option. Hall is playing VFL reserves. Travis is only just going in the U18’s.

Just how does anyone propose to make the finals let alone be a flag chance in the next 2 to 3 years without Presti?

People are going to talk about trading Presti because last week the club made it public that they would trade should the right deal come up. We have some young promising backmen coming through. We need some strength in the midfield.

If we got that deal i would be happy. Although I dont rate Johnstone at all!!! One of the worst number 1 draft picks ever.

I love Presty too but we need some realistic trade scenario's. Everyone gets emotional and put up trade suggestions that are not ever gonna happen.
Like MCgough for Johnstone or Williams for Johnstone etc etc. Too get a decent player you have to give off some decent quality and hence why Presty comes into the mix.

Our problem in recent trading periods is our inability to let some of our better players go to change up the mix and motivate other clubs to trade with us.

The stark reality is that we have lost two grandfinals with this side and one way or another logic would tell ya that we need to make changes. Malty has certainly done this given the amount of players blooded this year but he has not been able to do it by infusing some talent from other clubs.
Port had 9 recycled players on the weekend.!!!!

This is exactly right. One thing that's important to remember is that there are 14 other clubs that'll put in trade options for Bruce or Johnstone. Half of them Melbourne wont look at, but the other half we will be competing against. Due to our recruiting of tall backmen in recent years we can afford to trade Presti. If the scenario occurs where Johnstone or Bruce express their intention to go to Collingwood or Essendon I can't see how Essendon would be able to compete with a player like Presti. All bets that they'll offer Henneman and Bolton. If we offered Presti and Pick 23 or McGough I know what offer I'd be taking if I were Melbourne.

johnstone is a gun and for presti who is an overated defender it would be a terrible deal for melbourne sruggling in the midfield with numbers.

You have almost realised your own weakness with this post. You dont have decent toilers back there hence why Presty would be a benefit. Nicholson is a dud(humiliated by Hille in 2nd elimination final),Holland has obviously proven to be a great pick up!!! other then Rivers and the second year blues syndrome I can see your backline really stacking up next year.
