I'm happy, adds flexibility. This time last year PP's were for incredibly unique situations, muted to never be given out again.

We got ours, it's fine IMO - good little batch of picks. Onward and upward.

I think the AFL are doing great now they are sitting in the side cart, doors are opening - things are happening. Lezgo

personally I blame Zorko...

and Nob *** and their bloody no excuses mantra. :)

In all seriousness though, It's not an excuse to point out that there has been a consistent pattern of interpreting administrative rules that have resulted in Brisbane receiving a less favourable interpretation/ result than other clubs

I know this is going to sound like throwing the toys out of the cot but I really would have preferred nothing.. We got plenty of these sort of picks after we lost all those players.

Understand the mentality here because at least then we don't have the stigma of getting handouts.

Sounds like you spat your dummy at the same time...
I'd prefer pick-19 than nothing. And not getting a PP this year is no guarantee we would get one next year. Better to take it while we can - we still may be ordinary next season, but we should be on the improve.

After the previous system called for pick 1 under our circumstances and we get pick 19 I would imagine this to be the ceiling. Pick 19 is not going to change anything. Really is just a weak ruling and one that tries to keep both sides happy and probably does neither. You can bet Eddie will get full mileage out of the "handouts" to the Lions. The system is not worth having IMO.

As others have said, not worth the stigma.

Nothing less than say a team losing a number of top line players to an outside football event would warrant an earlier pick you'd think.

Essendon's pick 1 this season will be viewed with similar notoriety as the James Frawley pick the Dees scored...

Happy with it. The reason we have been so bad for the last two years is because we decided to go the youth route. That was our decision, and one that I am happy with. However, we shouldn't be rewarded for that decision.

I too imagine this is the ceiling under the current system, and I'm fine with that. Pick-1 is too valuable to be granted on the whim of the AFL, regardless of it being handed out in the past. I think that the AFL has matured in thinking that giving pick-1 will help... it's either a band-aid for the poor clubs (look at what it did for Carlton or Melbourne) or too much for the strong clubs (Hawthorn).
Pick-19 on it's own would do nothing, but the AFL is looking at the bigger picture these days. Here's some new guys to run your club with, here's some money to help you compete, oh, and I had pick-19 and a couple of dirty Kleenex in my pocket - you may as well have those too.
Pick-19 gives us more flexibility at the trade table, and failing that a second shot in the draft before Essendon, or a 3rd shot before every other club except GC & GWS. It's not a guaranteed gun player, but certainly a good shot at a player that can be a solid contributor for years to come.
I couldn't care about the stigma - no one will remember it. Everyone remembers the PP's from Hawthorn, Carlton, Melbourne. No one ever mentions a PP that I think West Coast got (somewhere around pick-20, sometime in the 2000's... and that could be not true, proving my point!).

Pick 19 is not going to change anything.

It will give us more trade currency and flexibility. Three second round draft picks can be packaged or used individually to help secure player targets.

The Lions now have Picks 2, 19, 21, 29, 48, 57 (Frost?), 75 and 93.

Would like to take 19 and talk to Freo and see if they would do pick 3 for 19 and 6. We get the 6 from GCS for Hanley and tell them we are getting 3 and won't bid on Bowes with 2 or 3 where as Freo may well bid on Bowes if they keep 3.

Both GC & Freo would laugh at that.

these are some of the players likely to be available at pick 19 and 21 according to BF and MSM phantom drafters-

Shai Bolton, Jarrod Berry, Oliver Florent, Daniel Venables, Jy Simpkin, Alex Witherden, Josh Battle, Sam Powell-Pepper, Jordan Gallucci.

pretty handy group of players IMO, if we don't package one or both/+player up to move into the top dozen i would be extremely happy with 2 of these. if i could take 2 now it would be Venables + one of Bolton/Berry/Simpkin.

after cooling off a bit i think pick 19 could net us a very good prospect or used in the trade period to move up the order, and we may also get 1 or 2 other high picks for Rockliff and/or Hanley.

Gill has no balls whatsoever. Couldn't upset the Victorian teams could we? No wonder Eddie was happy for us to have one when he knew it was going to be pick 19.
This confuses me, why would Eddie care if you get pick 2 or 19? Our first pick is at 25 so it goes down one either way. I think Eddie would prefer you get a higher pick so it pushes down the Giants first rounders..

Do you have a notification set for any eddie mention?

I did get a notification for this thread, but don't worry I'm on your side on this one I think you deserved a top 5 pick as I stated last time I posted in here

You're not on my side. I wanted a third round priority pick

Why do I feel like we have been jooped with the technical small print?

AFL is the giver of riches "here Brisbane take a first round draft pick"

In the AFL eyes they have balanced the fact that now we can say we have added another first round draft pick to our side. Plus not have the Victorian power clubs have a b**ch about it.

Feels like a cheap Armani suit.
But in the afl's eyes it still says Armani :(
