Qafl 2019

whilst it's great to have the ex afl players come back and play in the QAFL they haven't always dominated the comp like clubs would've hoped. They would obviously bring a wealth of knowledge to the playing group and maybe bigger crowds but yet to see one have a huge influence on the game.

Correct in what you say .... just as I said in my initial post, which was, he will be valuable to the club and this has been already quoted by coach Zorko as to Clokes influence on the training track .

How many players in the comp this year with senior AFL experience?

Retzlaff, Harwood, Beams, Anthony, Howard, Cloke. any others?? Is McGuane playing for broady again as well?

Also had Staker, Moloney and Hall in recent seasons - can't think of any others?

McGuane has retired. Eddie sansbury another ex afl at the cats in recent times.

Does anyone know the results from the weekends practice games?

I didn’t see it but apparently a comfortable win for the cats over grange. No idea the relative strength of the sides though. I know the cats definitely had a few missing.

MtGravatt beat Morningside by 5 points I think it was in the end. Very scrappy game from all accounts.

Great ,, now the practice games are over ( which mean nothing result wise for obvious reasons ) and the real comp starts in 2 weeks ..then as each week goes by we all can comment about the results .

Southport was a great venue, if on the GC. It can’t be at a contending qafl team IMO.
Any ground on the GC would be a great
Improve on yeronga
As long as it’s not the teams home ground
Southport
Labrador
Broady
Coolly
Burleigh
All good

Robina
Palmy
Coomera
All good but without the facility’s
And parking

Mr Warren !!!!

Geez grouping palmys facilities with robina and Coomera a bit harsh. Probably not the best ground size (same size as yeronga) but we have everything else

The only GC grounds that could have in order would be
Broadbeach
Southport
Surfers (if they put in a temporary fence)
Bond Uni

Ok fair enough yes you do have a bit better facilities than Robina and Coomera but not by much
But nowhere near as good as broady
And Labrador and southport
Would not be suitable for QAFL
Final
Don’t get me wrong I like going to palmy and watching footy and love the temp hamburger and beer stand 👍

I attended the Morningside 2019 season breakfast launch this morning ,, Had a chat with AFLQ boss in Mr Warren...whom informed me just this week they had a meeting with all QAFL clubs and 2 major concerns were the fact that the Brisbane located sides are at least 50k a season behind the Gold Coast clubs because their grounds are not council funded maitenance wise where the Gold Coast clubs grounds are to some degree maintained by the councils involved.
He said he is also copping heaps from the Gold Coast clubs about holding the Grand Final at Yeronga if 2 Gold Coast clubs are contesting the Grand Final .
I see Mr Warren is not against holding
A GF on the coast
The heat is getting to
Him ....I suppose he is sick of every
Person bringing it up !!!!

He did say early in the year it’s set
In stone
Welll maybe it’s not
I hope for the great football supporters
It’s moved

I see Andy Lovell appointed rep coach for the qafl game, seems like a good appointment, and ably assisted by Paul Grentell who has been a long time Qld footy servant, dont know to much about Marsh from Sandgate, but please, Sinclair appointed as assistant after being in the state for 5 minutes! HQ talks about pathways for players and coaches, im sure theres someone toiling away in the qafl whos paid there dues and deserves the opportunity.

It id be another non sensical Idea, put a crowd of a few thousand into a stadium that holds 6 x that. Understand where your competition is at and the support there is for it, put your ego in the bin at the front door of head office and stop trying to compete with other state leagues by holding it in a stadium, the support is simply not there.

So ‘if’ it’s 2 GC teams play it at Southport otherwise play it at Yeronga....

Yeah Metricon would lack atmosphere with a few thousand there but it would a lot of players an opportunity to play in an AFL stadium that would never get a chance to do so normally.

But I would rather it a local venue with a real footy atmosphere , Surfers and Broadbeach come to mind, only been to Grange once and not getting cars and or spectators being able to set up gazeabos etc around most of the ground would be a downfall for a granny I’d think?

Broadbeach have by quite a margin the best facilities in the comp ,, thus the obvious choice for the Grand Final venue if 2 Gold Coast sides are playing off. And one would expect a crowd of some 2500 plus ,,, unlike the 2018 grand final between 2 gold coast sides played at Yeronga where the crowd wouldnt of been 1800 at the most.
