Moorooka and Ipswich have withdrawn from the comp so as it stands we have 10 teams moving forward.

As touched on earlier in the week, both clubs liaised with each other and put a proposal forward to HQ to continue in Div 2 as a joint venture.

Result is both moving to Fri footy.

There needs to be another scenario as Friday Night will grow to an uncomfortable number soon that umpires, travel etc will be an issue.

Half from memory. I think it was about $9K when we went back to Friday Nights a few years ago compared to $18K.

I think Div 2 is now around $22K which is another sensitive issue considering no umpires for Ressies?

I really think during the year there needs to be some conversations around protecting Saturday Teams even if they only have one team. I understand trying to have other teams play as your Ressies is an issue that could compromise competition, and even big permit numbers that effects win/loss is always an issue.

It’s more around fees and costs I think if a club only had one team which means less money to league. As I agree with Longy that people should not have to pay full fees if there is more byes.

Just needs to be sorted as there was probably 4-6 clubs in this situation this year. It will only get worse.

From my limited experience with clubs with thirds the Friday fees per player have been 100-150 less than Saturdays

Not sure what goes into this calculation, assume there may be less games and less umpire fees in Fridays, but offset with paying for lights etc.

I don't want to put a knock on Gympie, but since their inception they have struggled to field 2 sides. Credit to them for their persistence but why should they continually be able to participate while others in the same boat are forced to withdraw? Makes no sense and is a detriment to the game.

AFLQ probably keener for them to remain in the SEQ fold rather than them going back to the Wide Bay comp which would be realistically where they'd revert to if they pulled out, playing 1's only with Maryborough fielding only 2's in a 5 team comp (travel wise not overly realistic to expect teams to travel that far on Friday Nights, even if it was Northern based clubs).

Problem being that 'North' seemingly extends to Moorooka. I think no reason Gympie couldn't make it work in a Friday comp that was from say Bribie and north

Why would you say that? The number of clubs in this part of the state is unbelievable for a sport that is very much 2nd fiddle to RL? Yeah some clubs are struggling but there have also been numerous senior clubs that have started up in the past decade as well. To my mind possibly too many but when you consider that it is rare for any club in Victoria to have more than 2 sides and we have quite a few clubs with 3 in SEQ plus women's sides (some with 2) then I think the code is actually looking okay. This shuffling of the deck chairs is something that will occur each year and not HQ fault all the time either. They can't control a club's culture or human resources or coaching. I'm sure if you were sitting in the president Sam's seat at Coorparoo or even at any club on the SC atm (Caloundra had 72 at training the other night) then I don't think you would be saying footy is spiralling downwards. Its all a matter of whose lens you are looking through.

Not sure how many twos games they have forfeited.
But they seem to get a twos out. Yes it's probably because they get a s**t load of permits but they get it done. Maybe Ipswich and moorooka felt that wasn't possible. So the Friday nite grows and no one is either looking into why or they just don't care. Might be we don't care it's your club sort it out.

From what I remember they had quite a few guys doubling up each week to make the numbers. One way to get your game numbers up as a player! LOL.

Yes - this is a better snapshot imo. But even then there are opinions like a.. holes on what is the solution. If any person on this forum was sitting in the chair then they would be getting pillored by all and sundry. I think Div 2 comp is the obvious place to have a 1 team Saturday comp. Not sure how it becomes a POD to the Fri comp other than the day itself though but might attract more clubs that have fallen back to Friday nights due to the current rules than we think. It makes good sense to align with a women's game or even put a 17.5 game on the Saturday if it can be coordinated between 2 clubs? I think it requires some real thinking outside the square and the bottom line is you want people at your game to have a drink and pie. No real other way of making a buck for most clubs at this level.

FWIW I think the obvious solution that HQ could look into to increase any fence sitters is registration costs (clubs could too - some say they don't make a dime out if it, I say bs) and looking at getting fees to clubs down.
The beauty of Fri night footy is that it distributes officials more easily meaning more comps can access these people if they are happy to do 2 games a weekend.

Its essentially a relegation (and promotion with Hinterland). Makes sense to me.

Correct me if I’m wrong but Ipswich only had success when there was no salary cap and quickly went down hill when it was introduced?

Bloody hell! 150 players!! That would be the largest senior football club in Australia I would guess. Big presentation night when you include their 2 women's teams...
