Question time

Burton doesn't know what he is doing himself much of the time, so it makes it very hard for the opposition to work him out! ;)

Ain't that the truth!!! :) You can also add his teammates and spectators to the list of those who don't know what he is doing most of the time. ;)

It's working nicely at the minute though!!

But thats what makes him unique. He does frustrate the crap out of me at times but that's why he is excitment machine. He is one of the most watchable (and at the same time frustrating) players in AFL:)

Spot on Stiffy! Usually does at least 1 dumb thing per match, but it is worth putting up with as his exciting stuff usually outweighs the amount of times he outsmarts himself.

You have got to laugh sometimes when he outsmarts himself. Love him or hate him he is a value for money.:D

As far as I can see the most obvious move is to play Burton at full forward and bring someone in to play the wing. IMO the best bet here would be Doughty who is stiffa than Begley or Gallagher to have lost his spot. Would Reilly also be a smokey? Did he play in the SANFL?

However, I am not keen to remove Burton from the wing as he has been flying and the Bombers will struggle to match him up running up and down the wing and dropping into the forward 50 to take the occasional screamer (he'll hold one shortly).

It's time for the Crows to play a wildcard and give a kid a chance. I agree with Stiffy, it's time for Ben Rutten to be given a go. If it works well great. If it doesn't then Burton becomes plan B and we have enough depth on the bench to cover the wing. It concerns me how little we have experimented this year.

P.S. Gotta say since it's a appears a given that Perrie has struck Fleming, he's really let the side down after all his good work in the last few weeks. Disappointing. Hopefully he learns from it.

Daniel Schell is off the injury list;)

Begley or Rutten will get the gig I would have thought.

Is Torney safe at selection? I think he should be but his lack of use last week is a disturbing sign

Ayres said at the conference that the matchups were not right and the game was too close to change the mix. No mention of a stomach bug.

There is much more to this than meets the eye, me thinks. If Torney had a stomach bug then you'd replace him with an emergency surely.

I can see three possibilities:

1. He was throwing up nervous, which would not have become evident till match time.

2. He had an attitude about thumping someone or something like that and so Ayres decided not to use him.

3. He is on the verge of a run in the twos.

1. and 2. do not seem part of his character but who knows?

Poor fellow was hardly singing the song with gusto after the match. Appeared to be confused and a little miffed, rightly so.

Regardless of whether Sarge / Stevo play, Carey should play CHF - as I would prefer him playing on Jacobs / Bolton / Lucas. Wouldn't like him playing on Fletcher.

If neither Sarge or Stevo are available, then I would definitely play Burton out of the square, as he's not the sort of player that Fletcher would like to play on. May force Sheedy to move Fletcher out of position.

I would have a backup plan for Kenny to move forward if we are struggling with marking targets. IMO we don't get enough out of our ruckman playing them as forwards.

I agree with Burton at full-forward. Last year was the first time in a very long time that Fletcher looked lost at FB on Burton and got soundly beaten (4 goals if I remember correctly). Even though it will take something away from our midfield we can cover the loss. Begley has been in awesome form with Sturt the past two weeks and he may come in to fill the void left on the wing. Essendon's midfield doesn't compare to ours anyway so if Burton is moved off the wing for 1 game I don't think it will really hurt us.

The other option is to leave our forward 50 completely open. Have Carey at CHF and then Burns, McLeod and John**** next to him. Kick the ball over Carey's head and let these three run on to it. Wecould get an early break on them easily. Essendon are a slow team and we could exploit this early. Obviously they will put someone in the hole but then we could just man someone up on them, instructing the player just to bringthe ball to ground. Essendon have absolutely no chance of outcrumbingMcLeod, Burns and John**** and I could see it raining goals. This would also allow us to keep Burton on the wing where he has been playing so well.

Finally, I just pray that Perrie pleads guilty. He has no chance of getting off after seeing Ch 9's footage and will only get one week if he pleads guilty. 2+ if he pleads not guilty.:(

1. Why didnt Torney play more game time against the Tiges ?

2. Will Perrie get off ?

1. As I said in the Votes post, he had a stomach virus. The real question was, was it really bad? He was late to the crows warm-up before the game suggesting that he wasnt well. But having a game against your old side is good for the guy. Yes they could have replaced him with an emergency but all the emergencies had played in the SANFL that day, and it would've been too late for a call-up.

2. ha ha that Perrie incident was so funny. Did anyone else see Bodey dive in like it was the most exciting part of the match! Bode's a classic! On Perrie, I think he will be suspended...but not for long. I would give it one week.

Not exactly. James Gallagher was an emergency and he was set to play the following day (Sunday) against West Adelaide.;)

Yeah as I said in the Perrie's rubbed out thread, my starting forward line would be:

F: Burns, Burton, Welsh
HF: Ladhams, Carey, Edwards

To elaborate further, all our other big forward options are either too young, too raw or are absolute scrubbers now that Perrie and Stevens won't be playing.

Therefore, I say we exploit the fact Essendon have a glut of talls and surround Carey with plenty of small forwards - as he has shown that he can bring the ball down to ground level brilliantly in the past couple of weeks - and give Burton a license to run from the square and leap without killing himself, after all, he was our leading scorer last year.

If this doesn't work then we shuffle things around a bit - Ricciuto or Smart to FF etc etc. Despite our outs it is imperative we play on our terms. Too many times against Essendon throughout the years we've let Sheedy and his charges dictate the game.

Yeah, I would go for a similar structure & rotate Macca, Roo & Bodey through as well. I would have thought about bringing in Rutten to start on the bench & give us the option of throwing Kenny forward, but with rain forecast another small/medium such as Begley or Dogga would be preferable.
