GREAT FORM
QUIGLEY 4 PM

Roughead was in my top 50 but I dropped him out when I realised I had left out Broadbent. I don't see him as a key position but rather as a slightly undersized ruck (ie under 200cm) with minimal rucking skills. Unless my ruck is going to spend most of his time as a key position I actually want him to be able to win a tap every once in a while. Roughead is pretty developed but still struggled against shorter stick insects on occasions.

With Post I left him out because I could not recall seeing him play and there were others around that stage who I had and thought better able to comment on. I think he is a 3rd or 4th round pick so he would be around the mark.

There are some teams which I realised after the draft probably are not as balanced in their picking as I would have liked (especially when I just left the same players in the picks that I had stuffed up and not updated). I tried to go with needs but if there was no value pick that fitted the major need I went with secondary needs. Teams like Geelong and the Bulldogs I thought particularly I did not go tall enough but the guys I picked for them I rated a fair bit higher than the key positions available at each pick.

Pretty terrible from a Freo perspective; 2 midfielders (Rich + Deboar), 1 small forward and 3 key position players.

FFC have been pretty open about targetting midfielders this draft and you've given us 3 KPP.

I mean i respect your profiles and enjoyed reading them. But that is a long way off the mark with Freo.

Where's the ruckman btw?

Granted Freo probably won't take two key positions in the 50s but I do think there is a need for some muscle in your key positions and it would not surprise me for you to take a couple at least on draft day.

With Sandilands dominating the ruck time I thought Freo's best ruck bet would be a Longmuir type option and that is a role Trengove might do very well at.

Rolfe I did not expect to be popular with Freo fans but he can go into the midfield and do so well. I think he would be a nice player for you and he is by no means a stay at home forward pocket. With Rich and DeBoer I think the balance in the midfield options taken is pretty good.

Watts hasn't kicked many "bags" because he played midfield this year for Brighton as much as up forward. Probably more so. This was the same for his last couple of games with the Dragons. Wayne Oswald referred to it in the article on Watts in the HS on the weekend. Although he did kick 7 early on for Brighton and 5 in the Carnival.

Also, I doubt you were at Casey Fields earlier in the year. Hartlett had his best game for SA against Vic Country.

Enjoyable read. Thanks.

Rolfe early i dont mind. Its some decent thinking outside the square. Brings a name up which isn't highlighted often. Its the late talls which i dislike.

It would be far more likely for Fremantle to look at Both Hayden Ballantyne and Liam Anthony with late picks. Neither of which feature in your top 60. Both top performers from the WAFL this year. Both fit into the slightly mature age recruit ala Harry Taylor. Hints around the media have suggested we may lean towards a player or two in this category as opposed to adding 14 youngsters via the national PSD and rookie draft.

Its a misconception we dont have good talls. Up forward we have the option of Tarrant, Pavlich, McPharlin, cameo's from Sandilands. Down back Grover, Drum, MiJohnson as well as McPharlin. We've got Campbell, Murphy as depth up forward.

Compare our talls to say Hawthorn's this year. McPharlin and Pavlich are our Franklin and Roughhead. Our talls aren't the problem, its everywhere else.

I can see the spot for a backup ruckman, but any other talls are superfluous and not addressing our needs whatsoever.

Excellent mock draft Quigley. Good read. Great Effort, it's appreciated :thumbsu:

How do you know this From_45? (if you don't mind me asking)

On 2 occasions where the bull ants played Port Melb, Nahas was tagged by 2 carlton listed players. On the first occasion, Aaron Josephs(rookie listed player) did the Job on him- Did a very good job tagging Nahas out of the game- albeit unsportsmanlike like... ala Tony Libertore.

After the game David Teague spoke to Nahas to explain why A.Josephs had to a job on him because it was instructed by Ratten to rattle Nahas. Teague went on to say to Nahas to take this as a compliment because rates loves the way he plays.

second time around Steven Browne had the job. This time around Nahas broke even- without being dominant. Browny said after the game that ''i hope to see you around the club next year''. Teague again re iterated with Nahas about how Ratts loves the way he plays.

The only barrier here is that Ratts needs to convince the other Carlton recruiters as to why Nahas would suit Carlton..

Thanks for that :thumbsu:

Very interesting. Almost testing him out really to see if he's up to it.

If he's getting beaten by Joseph and breaking even with Browne who are first year Carlton players (albeit talented ones) then that's probably not the best outcome he would have liked. Reckon Rats would have liked to have seen him break free from those tags. All in all, it would be great to get another pocket rocket to the club, as we're definitely in need of one.

It's nice to know someone else rates Cornelius as a 1st round pick.

Good read, differ on a few things, thats the beauty of differing opinions.

Can someone set up an accuracy thread, it'll will be interesting to see how far off we are.

All some people can do is whinge - bitch -whinge - bitch.

This is a astronomic effort Quigley. I commend you and your endeavour. You must have spent alot of time on this.

Your selections and positioning's are different. I cannot imagine some of your picks going so high, or converesly, so low.

Yet importantly, I think the most valuable attibute to your work is the player profiles and research.

I think after the draft, many people will visit this thread to read your analysis on the kids.

Once again, well done. Its appreciated :thumbsu:

It's a public forum. Why does every review or response need to be warm and fuzzy ? Those not overly enamoured with the order of players selected aren't necessarily saying that they're not appreciative of the effort, and they're not saying that it's not a highly informative critique on available players in the upcoming draft.

And I'm sure the author expected nothing more than honest opinions on his effort. And yes, some opinions are more informed than others.

Just echo everyone else and say fantastic effort mate, always great to read drafts of that depth even if I don't agree with it all. Can see myself re-reading it a couple of times just to soak it all in.

Having said that, I'd be bloody gutted if Geelong ended up with that out of this draft. I understand that people thing we need pace after the Grand Final but the reality is we already have plenty of speed on the fringes of the side - Varcoe, Byrnes, Woja, Tenace, Djerrkura and Hogan are all fast. The fact that we delisted Davenport demonstrates how concerned the coaching staff are with raw pace, IMO. Not saying we won't pick a fast guy up - I'm really hoping for Swift - but I don't think either pace or midfielders will be a real priority.

I agree with picking up larger HBFers in order to replace Milburn (and Harley, who is increasingly playing that role) and I'm really hoping we do pick up one of Broadbent/O'Keefe/Klemke. That said, I'm not sure who you can acknowledge that our backline is pushing retirement and then not pick us a single KPD. Even before the Egan news we needed one as a future replacement for Scarlett/Harley...now it's an absolute necessity and we could well pick two (given Kangas got the arse off the rookie list).
