Out: Cheney
In: Doedee
I think that Doedee is better suited as that 4th tall because I think that Cheney lacks agility and probably not as good in the air as Doedee. Almost every week I see Cheney plays get away from him running back to goal because of his lack of athletism. Also his spoils aren't that convincing. He and talia spoiled each other multiple times which lead to goals.

Doende won't play this year unless there are significant injuries. No way he comes in for Cheney. Cheney's been very good despite the flack he receives. Otten would be next into the backline, Jake Kelly would be ahead of Doedee. I like the kid, but he's not ready this year.
I would say during the pre-season all those 4 mentioned, unless Otten doesn't get traded, would be vying for that 3rd defender spot. Cheney has a lock on that at the moment.

Smith is one of, if not my favourite player at the Crows and even I will admit he has been disgraceful lately. Like not even mediocre or just passable. He's been bad, really bad, and for a few weeks now too.
I watched 3 quarters of the game again last night and there is no way his game was really bad.

I also didn't think he was really bad against North and against West Coast he played well.

Doedee currently in some hot form, which is great for us. Not sure if Cheney is getting squeezed out, but we appear to have a solid backup waiting in the wings.

Out: Mackay
In: Anyone for Mackay, I'm getting tired of his weak efforts week after week. I can't remember how many times I yelled at Mackay to "Do something!" His constant pass he gets for not doing enough when the pressure is on does nothing to sway my theory that he knows something dirty about one or more board members and is holding the club hostage.

Don't drop Jenkins, but force his manager to sit through every minute of the Melbourne replay and tell him to sign his damn contract and stop putting doubts on the club and himself.

Smith was good against North and West Coast and his defensive stuff has really improved. Cant believe some of the stuff I'm reading. He hasn't kicked a long goal lately so has been disgraceful??

More like doing his job quietly without being a standout. He is capable of more no doubt because at his best he is a matchwinner but nowhere near borderline selected.

I can't believe this is the same Doedee people were bagging the crap out of in November last year!!!

Now he's the next Ben Hart!
They didn't even know who he was in December!! :D

Let's swap roles before we compare performances. Let's try Dmack in defence and Smith on the wing.

But seriously anyone suggesting Smith is in doubt needs to pass me the bong.
You could also consider that it's Mackay that Smith is unable to get a position on the wing ahead of, what does that say about Smith?

He's well off the mark and I'm surprised anyone can suggest his season has been unrated given what he's been doing of late. Can only think that his 2014 season has been forgotten. Was a year where he killed it but had some really quiet games, something we all thought he'd look to match and improve on yet he hasn't gotten close to that since.

Was well off against Melbourne but as I said in the good/bad thread, his tackling was on song and by far the best I've ever seen him tackle so I'll give him credit for that.

Would go unchanged again assuming there's no injury from the game.

I love it! :)

Unchanged for me. Thought Thommo struggled in the first half...only 7 touches 'til half time, but his tacking and workrate was much better in the second half - absolutely hammered N Jones a few times. Did I hear that Pyke trained us much harder in the past couple of weeks given the games we missed? If so, then it may pay to have an extra runner against Carlton, who don't have any brutish midfielders for Thommo to go to.

Back to back away games, I wouldn't mind a player or two to come in who is hungry and fresh just so that we can maintain that momentum and enthusiasm.

I would be very surprised if there isn't changes this week, with the long breaks between games I'm sure one or two players may pull up sore and the consecutive travel factor won't help.

It's critical that we have a strong squad of 26-28 players ready to play on a moments notice in September.

Doedee's form is good, but he plays in an area of the ground where his opponents would be significantly stronger at AFL level than they are at AFL level and his strength is his weakness due to it being his first year. I think opposition sides would try to isolate him one on one for a wrestle if he was in the AFL side.

If Seedsman is good to go, he comes in for Mackay for me.

Was at the game and Brown looks either injured or suffering from fatigue ( think he may have also got concussed v Roos )

Something not right with him, his usual trustworthy efforts not there and couldn't go with Garlett at times and was calling laird up

Won't be dropped but something is amiss

Otherwise we do look one outside player down and I'm not a fan of Mackay on the wing . Prefer his other role this year , hopefully Seedsman gets back soon - unchanged if not

Lyons was excellent when it mattered , Brad still miles off

Add Henderson , Van Berlo ( maybe not with injury) , Milera , Seedsman and maybe Otten and that's who I think will be added to the squad from yesterday

Given that when we lost 1 defender through injury it was Hendo called up and then VB the week after I think it's fair to say that Smith being played in defence might be more important than pushing Mackay off the wing. With the continual improvement of Doedee, who had a severely interrupted preseason, and Kelly who's back from injury and going ok, perhaps Smith isn't as critical to the defensive rotation. Then it becomes a choice between finding him another role in the 1's or sending him down to regain form or be defensive depth.

There are certainly players that Mackay in his current form and role will keep out of the 22, but I doubt that Smith is one of them. Obviously not relevant if Smith remains part of the defensive rotation.
