Aussie cricket captain and coach certainly don’t have final say on selection. They are the ones adding ideas and input as far as I’m aware.

I’ve always assumed that like list management, the coach would love to pick the team but rarely gets that opportunity. I would love to know the actual process

It must be so demoralising to be a young player at this club if you’re not drafted in the Top 10.

Just constantly overlooked for low-ceiling types because they have more experience. If you do get picked, chances are you’re a sub, forced onto a graveyard pocket, or play the last 2 games of a season, to disappear the following year.

And a coach that has no idea or desire to really rotate the squad or praise you in public.

No crows games.
No second hand talk of the Crows in front of your children.
Healthy sport watching programs by the local government.

I mean guys like Berry, Max, and Soligo have carved out careers, and in the case of the latter 2, VERY good ones so far, but I get what you're saying.

He couldn't fit him into his first choice best 22 but knew he had to increase his chances of a recall so played him in the midfield so he was always in the next 2-3 players to call up

In terms of a coach going forward, Simpson and Longmire for that matter are known to be fairly stubborn in terms of selection and the like.

But a premiership winning coach if available should be snapped up by the AFC.

If Nicks does bring him some of his cooked favourites, it may not cost you this week (provided you have at least one of Thilthorpe/Fogarty) you should still win.
But it is clear (further) evidence that he isn’t up to it and should be shown the door as soon as practical.

You've clearly not been involved in football. The coach has final say on team selections, with input from committee and medical.
