Rance Or Talia?

Rance comfortably, but Talia is an excellent player.

I don't think there is a huge gulf between Rance and Talia. They are in the top three defenders in the league in my opinion along with Hurley. I wouldn't mind having Talia at Richmond.

I say Rance is better right now, but I won't be shocked if Adelaide supporters are happy with having Talia over Rance just as we are happy with having Rance over Talia.

Did you see what he does to others in the other game though? I still think that he saved us from a 150+ point loss against GWS. He was huge

I live in Adelaide, outside the Vic spotlight, and see Talia every second week, so in saying that, Rance every day of the year for the next 10.

Better pure defender and overall better player. I honestly rate Hurley over Talia for the same reasons as Rance, he can defend and get his own ball.

OK if that is your opinion. I would choose Rance there.

Rance does have a downfall in some of his decision-making sometimes, but he makes up for it by the amount of goal-saving spoils and marks he takes. He is outstanding at getting his own ball. Also, it isn't a profound issue to the extent that it will knock him off being the curren.t top defender in the league in my opinion

Besides, that decision-making downfall is a bit of a Richmond thing that he perhaps would improve on if he were to play at a higher-placed side.

Hardwick put it well on the weekend when he said that he actually relaxes when Rance is 1 on 1.
He is a star. The best 1 on 1 player in the game by far.
His courage was stupid early in his career. He controls it now and is easily the best key defender.
What ever we are paying him. He is worth 5 x that amount.

Would still take a 2004-2006 Jimmy Clement and Matthew Scarlett in his 5th best season over either of these two however.

Talia has gone to a new level this year but its still Rance. Talia barely ever loses a contest but Rance is miles better offensively.

Yeah Talia's 7-8 years younger, so he has plenty of time to develop that side of his game.

Both get away with a huge amount of holding. It is an under rated skill.

I agree with some prior posters that this is not very close at all. Talia is a good player but this is getting ridiculous. He is essentially just a better version of Lonergan, who also gets away with murder in terms of holding. If the umpires penalised some of these defenders properly and gave forwards like Cloke, Hawkins, Bruce a fair go, they would get far more goals kicked on them. Talia was all over Hawkins at Simonds, yet Hawkins still gave him a bath in the few big one-on-one contests they had. On the other hand, Rance is the king of tunnelling, and also gets away with a lot, but you have to admit he is an excellent player and the number one defender in the game at the moment. Rance is being compared to the modern/all-time greats such as SOS, Lake and Scarlett, and whether you think he should be held in such company or not, just being in that conversation shows he is a step above the other KPD's in the game at the moment. Also, Talia has a solid defensive unit around him with Lever looking the goods and nice rebound defenders such as B Smith, Laird and Atkins whereas Rance plays with Chaplin lol. Rance definitely a better KPD and a better player.

What Rance is doing this season is amazing given the horrendous performances of the rest of his team. He is the best by a fair margin in my opinion. Talia is very very good and if I had to have him in my team I would not complain. He got beaten by Hawkins recently but apart from that he just locks blokes away

And barely rated a mention in the talk of defenders.
I would say its an even battle the last two years, and since Talia entered the comp he's been ahead prior to that
