What do people thing of the Washington Wizards redesign? I'm a fan

Massive improvement over their old design.

Love the new logos as well, with the throwback to the old bullets days as well as the subtle elements like the washington monument on the h and d in the wordmark, the W above the star on the ball logo as well as on the bottom of the shorts in the stripe.

One of the best redesigns in the last few years.

Was intrigued with what you all said and were talkin about.

Wizards new branding is refreshing with an old school flavor in modern times. New branding looks excellent. Good work to them

For those who like subtle design elements note the W that is created by the star on the bottom of the shorts. As well as the W that appears above the star on the ball logo and the Washington Monument on the h and d for the jersey workmarks. Finally the hand reaching for the ball in the dc logo which is a homage to the Washington Bullets logo.

Clever, recognised the hand from the Bullets logo immediately. In all honesty I would have preferred the new Wizards script logo to become the primary. It's basically just a recolor and a new wordmark along the bottom.

They didn't do it cause apparently to change your primary logo in the NBA costs the team around $500,000. Where as to change colours/recolour costs them nothing.

Wow

That makes a whole lot of sense. A couple that come to mind are Utah and Denver, but just looking through the NBA, the teams below are all using logos that are just a recolor (or thereabouts) of their previous primary.

Hawks
Celtics
Bobcats
Cavs
Nuggets
Pacers
Heat
Bucks
Wolves
Hornets
Raptors
Jazz
Wizards

Another example of how the American sporting industry wipes the floor of ours in terms of marketing and branding.

Even though the number of logos may seem OTT, the collection is outstanding.
One thing i noticed myself was, with the change of colours, the Wizard is now navy with red robes (the opposite would probably not go down so well with the tentative issue of the Cleveland Indians and Washington Redskins).

Now forgive me if it's just the hours of, mostly procrastinated, critical analysis speaking; but I've just done an essay for uni on the importance of symbols in the French Revolution and how they're represented in neo-classical art etc.

Without a doubt THE most important symbol was the red phrygian cap, or the Bonnet Rouge, worn by the revolutionaries as a kind of "uniform" - the start of red colour-coding the political world with the communists, socialists, republicans and labor movements (all left-wing).
Most of you would have some idea of the importance of the French in American history, and the red cap was also used to an extent during revolutionary period in the USA, particularly alongside the image of Lady Liberty (ie statue of liberty).
I won't try to pollute this thread with the works of Delacroix and David, but you guys might relate to such examples as the smurfs and Mr Punch, as in Punch and Judy.

Perhaps this is yet another deliberate patriotic symbol in the Washington logo?

I somehow think they didn't give it that much thought.

Good theory though!

the start of red colour-coding the political world with the communists, socialists, republicans and labor movements (all left-wing).

Ironically, except in the US, where the left-wing Democrats are blue, and the right-wing Republicans are red. I'm not really sure how they got that mixed up.

Avatar request!

Could someone please make a gif and resize it to the right size + dimensions to be a bigfooty avatar. Big ask i know and if any could do it would be much appreciated

And a big welcome to the new, reformed, me. I am now Gibbsy. I have grown out of the spin (was actually redundant because I bowl medium pace). I've also dolled myself up with a Platinum badge to go with my renewed Gold membership. :thumbsu:

Hey Gibbsy, good to see you have are now a Blazers fan. (bandwagoner or true fan?) Oh well either way it will be good to talk about the NBA and more importantly, the Blazers with you. I shall be posting more designs soon hopefully.

Let's say if I was a bandwagoner I'd be jumping on Miami right about now. I've followed the NBA for a while, fairly knowledgeable about it but just wanted to settle on the team and love the Blazers' starting five. :thumbsu:

RIP Bob Davis, still remember watching one of the footy panel shows with him and the crew (not the super-old ones with Lou and Captain Blood).

I approve of the name shortening, Gibbsy! :D

I'm undecided on an NBA team... (I hate changing teams, but I feel it's hard to go for a team when I don't watch a lot of it and I don't know any of their players). I was a Bulls fan as a kid (no surprise), got into the Pacers later (thanks to Reggie Miller) and recently was a fan of the Cavs (LeBron as well as my favourite band being from Cleveland). I wanna get behind either the Heat or the Bulls now (and not just because they're still in with a shot!) - I love watching the Heat play, but I'd still feel dirty because of the whole LeBron jilting Cleveland thing.

Time for me to emerge from the NBA closet, or should that be locker.

Back in the early 1990s, randoms at school were picking NBA teams to follow. Well, they were following PLAYERS rather than teams. Anyway I saw a list of teams and I chose the Phoenix Suns, mainly because Phoenix seemed a pretty cool name (and I'd been reading X-Men around that time). It was only after choosing them that I found out about guys like Charles Barkley, Kevin Johnson, Dan Majerle.

My younger brother jumped on the Los Angeles Lakers bandwagon after getting some Laker-branded clothing. A friend gave us a copy of the old PC-game "Lakers v Celtics and the NBA Playoffs" and we gave that game a bit of a beating. My brother liked using Jeff Lamp in the Lakers, game point average of 1.6 - in one game on the computer Lamp scored 104!

We were never keen followers though. Over time I changed to the Lakers, by then they had Bryant and O'Neal. And James Worthy helped win me over after his appearance as a (very tall) Klingon on Star Trek: The Next Generation. But to be honest, I haven't nominally followed anyone in the NBA since the 1990s.

I followed the NBL more, from 1988, when our school got heaps of free tickets to go see the Eastside Spectres. I saw them a few times, but a year or two later we got invited to a corporate box to see the North Melbourne Giants, and even went to an afterparty... got heaps of autographs. Was great fun for a kid at the time. After they both became the Magic, I sort of migrated across to the Melbourne Tigers... they still had Andrew Gaze at the time. I must have got on at the right time because they won the title in 1993. I haven't been to an NBL game since 1998 or so, but I still follow the Tigers.

Someone fairly recently posted an aliased (ie. sharp-edged) version of the full body lion on Brisbane's jumper, and I can't for the life of me find it. Can someone post the image or at least the thread again? Cheers.

I'm going to post this in the Ebay thread too, was hoping a WA based contributor might be able to help. This is currently listed as a WAFL Peel Thunder jumper on Ebay. It quite clearly is not a WAFL jumper, as the 'WAAFL' logo is visible, but I was wondering if someone might be able to tell me which club it actually is.

Something I kept forgetting to upload.

I went to Darwin a few weeks back for Richmond's game and a short holiday - whilst wandering up and down Mitchell Street I saw this sign. Snapped it just to share here.

One thing i recently noticed is when FoxSports covers the football there scoreboard graphics have a little icon of what guernsey the team is wearing the day next to the team name.

Really good effort :thumbsu:

I used to like Channel 10's scoreboard when they had the team's logos next to their names.
