"they've already got $10 mil at normal rates? what do mean?

45% is a massive difference to 70%!

multinationals have nothing to do with a 70% tax rate, the 70% relates to personal income tax. how about governments smarten up and crack down on multinationals instead of trying to recoup it through individuals?

yes tax is a disincentive, i subscribe to the 80/20 rule and the individuals that are doing 80% of the work and being punished for it through getting 50% or more of their income taken from them only hurts society. i know this won't align to the ideology that all rich ppl are evil but some of us here don't have tall poppy syndrome.

Any individual making 10 mil a year and not sliding it thru a whole series of companies, trusts and the like is probably making it illegally anyway.

80/20 isn't a rule, its not even a thing its a misunderstanding of a mathematical distribution developed by an Italian Fascist mathematician called Pareto. There is no 80/20 distribution, its dependent on starting factors. We've had this discussion on here before. If you think its a rule you are wrong and don't understand it.

BTW I agree with cracking down on multinational organisations dodging tax. That should be a no brainer.

"lesser deities from across the multiverse"

will listen. cheers :thumbsu:

God reckons that because there’s infinite universes Jesus has been killed in every way imaginable. Apparently there’s a universe where Jesus was bludgeoned to death with a dildo, in that universe people walk around with dildos on their necklaces instead of crucifixes.

What do I mean? Their first $10m is taxed under the already established rate, as I understand it. AOC's proposal isn't a flat 70% rate where every person gets taxed 70%. It's not as if they're going to be struggling if they've already earned 10m for the year.

It is, but I mentioned it because in those countries it comes into play at a much lesser amount than the 70% of every dollar over 10m that you brought up. I'm not an accountant, but I would expect that comparably speaking, if one person earned say 15m in USA under the 70% tax over 10m and one earned 15m in France, the amount taken in tax wouldn't vary much because the US would have lower tax percentages for the first 10m earned. My point is that if you were to look at it as a whole, it's not necessarily a radical proposal.

The reason I brought multinationals up is because you said that taxing someone 70% on every dollar they make over 10m is 'criminal,' but I think we're missing the point if we're saying that's criminal when it's the tax dodging that's a far bigger problem. That's all. And yeah, I agree that they should crack down on them.

I don't believe that all rich people are evil either. I've already said that this is a complex topic and I don't know where I come down. I was just correcting the implications in your OP that it was a 70% flat rate.

If you just ruined the podcast I'll be sending you to that universe at telling them you're jesus!

Justin Bieber made an April fools day joke that his mrs is pregnant.

He’s been made to apologise because it’s offensive to couples that can’t have kids.

I was referring to this:

You couldn't play the ball so you went for my character by saying I don't feel empathy for Sandy Hook parents. When that has never been mentioned by me on big footy.

Called out for what bullshit. The only bullshit is you throwing out unreleted comments to drive the emotional angle and this grasping the detroit/flint error whilst refusing to even discuss the points I made. So in conclusion:

1. You grasped at an error because you had nothing else.
2. You suggested that anyone that enjoys watching Alex Jones has no empathy for the Sandy Hook incident. Which is basically saying if you read 4chan you have no empathy for the Christchurch incident.

So :thumbsu: for calling me out :$

Was about to drop out of the pointless discussion, but I've decided to play your game and get a bit pedantic here.

Tell me again, which part was "doubling down"? You've quoted the original post, but where's the double down on it?

The reason for my pedantism is that you've used the "doubling down" allegation to say that I'm "acting like" you're the "one at fault" (I could almost hear the sobs as I read that):

I'm not the one suggesting that enjoying someone's entertainment = I have no sympathy for Sandy Hook victims.

At least have the balls to admit it was a ridiculous comment. Instead you're doubling down and acting like I'm the one at fault :drunk:

I'll saving you the ducking and weaving exercise, there was no doubling down. Rather, you felt sad about my subsequent posts pointing out the irony and predictability of your responses, so needed to allege something. I get it. You had nothing but that wasn't going to stop you reacting like you were being victimised.

I could say plenty more, but I'll leave you with the suggestion that maybe, just maybe, I was trying to provoke a reaction with the Sandy Hook reference. What an original strategy it would have been if that was the case ...

A couple of awesome pics to finish (unrelated to one another).

So you came in, whined, threw out a ridiculous claim suggesting I have no sympathy for dead kids, whined some more, and are still carrying on. You've offered nothing and are still claiming "you called me out" and "I'm sobbing"

It's the sort of nonsense I'd expect on twitter or the Bay but not the North Board. Shit even Darwin Roo had points to counter.

roughly speaking USD15m in the US under the current system the tax will be = USD5.66m in the french system = USD6.72

under the proposed 70% after $10m in the US system = USD7.16

that's an extra $USD1.5m (10%!) that gets severely worse for every dollar over $10m - that's radical especially if you consider the more realistic example that someone sold a start up or a part of their company for say USD110m...

French system = USD49.47m
current US system = USD40.66m
proposed 70% after $10m = USD73.66m
(add on state personal income taxes they have to pay there)

add to that they're putting their lives on the line to chase a dream and they're going to be treated worse than ppl who risked nothing, work typical hours and have the security of sick pay, annual leave, LSL leave, workers comp etc. if you worked that hard you'll want every cent you slaved over to get to where you are and not be punished for it instead! so many companies won't begin because it's simply not worth it. that's lost jobs, a plethora of lost taxes and the lost opportunity to have a new product or service making lives better....but yea, "they won't be struggling" pffffttt.

What's worse is AOC just wants to make a name for herself, try and get into office and finish her career with a $82m book deal and speaking gigs at banks for $300k a pop. meanwhile the poor bastards that play by the rules and not hiding their money in offshore corporations get slugged with a 70% tax bill because the government is too lazy to go after the corporations that line their own pockets.

Good post with some good points made.

As I said, I'm really not across the taxation debate and I know that it's a very complicated one, so I'm not really sure what the counterarguments would look like, but on the face of it, you make some really good points there.

Police inaction re James Gargasoulas

Events on January 20, 2017
2230123_1542095635210.png

1 2.20am Police dispatched after receiving report of a stabbing at Windsor housing commission flats.
3.30am James Gargasoulas identified as suspect in stabbing of his brother, Angelo.
4.30am Police request assistance from elite Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT). The request is denied.
2 4.40am Police trace Gargasoulas’ phone to Greeves Street, St Kilda, where he appears to be parked. Officers make another formal request for CIRT assistance. CIRT denies the request.
3 5.00am Police locate Gargasoulas at McDonald's in Elsternwick. Another request for CIRT to help arrest him at the McDonald's is denied.
4 8.04am Gargasoulas is spotted back in Windsor where he stabbed his brother. He returns to his mother's house where he forces Akiir Muo into the car with him.
5 10.00am Gargasoulas is stuck in traffic in South Yarra. Some time after 10.57am, police request the assistance of CIRT again.
6 11.30am Gargasoulas enters a service lane in Albert Road, South Melbourne, and passes two CIRT units. He slowly drives around the CIRT units, gesturing for them to move out of the way. The CIRT units do not attempt to impede his path. Gargasoulas is then pursued by police through a Southbank intersection.
7 11.37am Gargasoulas stops in traffic near the intersection of Flinders Street and Wurundjeri Way in South Wharf, where CIRT officers walk towards his car with their guns drawn. He pushes Akiir Muo out of the car and she falls onto the road as he drives off, straight towards police, forcing them to jump out of the way. Muo is taken into custody by CIRT officers.
8 noon Gargasoulas parks in a Yarraville street for almost an hour.
9 1.30pm Gargasoulas arrives in the city and does doughnuts at the intersection of Flinders and Swanston streets.
10 1.33pm Gargasoulas turns into Bourke Street.

Police negligence at its finest.

The untold story is that Gargasoulas should never have even been in the state. He applied to the authorities to relocate to a remote interstate mining location where he could work and be under the supervision of his (much stabler) father. The request was denied.

The already troubled Gargasoulas had no choice but to stay with his mentally unstable alcoholic mother and troubled brother in a catalytic environment, where he again destabilized to the point of this tragic psychotic episode.

Massive failure by the authorities on all fronts.

100% deflection - literally - but don't worry, I suspect no-one else is reading our little to and fro.

But you and I both know the score.

Did you like B33?

has anyone ever sung a song thinking you know the words but you have been told later on that you are singing it wrong? I have on many occasions but two examples are:

irene cara - flashdance what a feeling song, where the chorus was take your passion but i used to sing take your pants off and the other example is lady gaga's song poker face, where in the chorus she sung can't read my, cant read my but I always thought she was sing cutie pie, cutie pie.

now I have no excuse regarding the irene cara song but with my hearing deteriorating over the years I am giving myself a little bit of slack regarding lady gaga's song.

Deflecting what? You never raised any points to deflect from. It has literally been a waste of time engaging you.

He was a good player. Underrated. I prefer the tough nuts like Stevens and Cunnington vs. the flashy types. Why? Judging by your last post it has something to do with young Jones. Does he watch infowars? If yes, does he want Goldstein traded for a first round pick? What are his thoughts on kangatech?

Sorry for all the questions. Just trying to figure out what tier of friendship I can put him on.

0/3 = jog on
1/3 = I'm listening
2/3 = lets go grab a beer
3/3 = I love you.
