Nah, it's not my ideology. There's a good weight of fact, or "science", behind it:

The United Nations:

"What we eat has major implications for climate change. The destruction of rainforests to create land for agriculture, along with growing demand for meat, are major contributors to the increasing greenhouse gases which are taking a significant toll on climate and global food security."

WELCOME TO GREEN EARTH

Thanks RF, that was interesting. He's pretty much focused just on methane though, and doesn't take into account that herd sizes HAVE increased in the last 50 years. Quite dramatically too.

With respect to the cattle in India, dairy is not part of the vegan diet, and so those cattle would also fall under the umbrella of animal proteins contributing more to climate change than plant proteins.

He nails it here though:

"Now, the criticism sometimes is, “Well, why do we use any of that arable land for feed production for animals?” Well, the simple answer is because people like animal-source foods, and animal-source foods are highly nutritious, are very nutrient-dense, and people simply demand it. It’s not an “ivory tower” discussion of, “What's the most efficient use of land, and should only the most efficient food items to grow there?” That's not how humans operate."

In a nutshell. And that's what we need to change in order for our food choices to have less impact on our planet.

1 year of a vegan diet and the carbon footprint saving is wiped out by one domestic melb to Brisbane flight.

Food source isn't the solution that will provide an impact on reversing climate change.

I had an hilarious discussion with one of these "carbon footprint" types many years back in Castlemaine. The virtue signalling was quickly aborted when I brought up the issue of her personal choice to have 5 children.

The solution is simple. Stop breeding.

Well that's exactly where the dialogue is headed.
Call me crazy , but the current left ideology have the potential to progress toward human reduction policy in the name of saving the planet.
There's already an attack in middle aged white men of first world nations. Not hard to expand the target list.

The lady meant well.

She's just your everyday consumer twit, who can't think past the initial emotional response.

Oh please.

The human race would lose three quarters of it's production, and 80% of it's medical doctors.

Is the flights carbon footprint based on the entire flight or pro-rated to 1 passenger. That is, if all passengers on the flight are vegan are we in front?

They really wouldn't.

Go and read what's happening to the Hazara or the Yazidi, then get back to me about persecution.

That's the point isn't it, it's the inner urbanites of first world nations fighting against perceived inequality, disadvantage and equality of outcome.

My money is on him being on the bus up to Langi Kal Kal tomorrow night.

Of course.

It's a politically driven media circus, so the politically expedient ruling will come down regardless of the quality of his legal arguments.

It's no difference to the VicPol royal commission stuff. The Vic legal sytem heard the same stuff that the HCA claimed was abhorrent.

Victoria is a corrupt state.
