Pointing out what most of us already know but it's starting to spread. We could be approaching a massive rupture point in industrial relations.

exploiters gonna exploit. marx warned us about this

#Regram #RG @rainforestalliance:
The lungs of the Earth are in flames. 🔥 The Brazilian Amazon—home to 1 million Indigenous people and 3 million species—has been burning for more than two weeks straight. There have been 74,000 fires in the Brazilian Amazon since the beginning of this year—a staggering 84% increase over the same period last year (National Institute for Space Research, Brazil). Scientists and conservationists attribute the accelerating deforestation to President Jair Bolsonaro, who issued an open invitation to loggers and farmers to clear the land after taking office in January.

The largest rainforest in the world is a critical piece of the global climate solution. Without the Amazon, we cannot keep the Earth’s warming in check. ⁣

T⁣he Amazon needs more than our prayers. So what can YOU do?

-As an emergency response, donate to frontline Amazon groups working to defend the forest.

-Consider becoming a regular supporter of the Rainforest Alliance’s community forestry initiatives across the world’s most vulnerable tropical forests, including the Amazon; this approach is by far the most effective defense against deforestation and natural forest fires, but it requires deep, long-term collaboration between the communities and the public and private sectors.

-Stay on top of this story and keep sharing posts, tagging news agencies and influencers.

-Be a conscious consumer, taking care to support companies committed to responsible supply chains.⁣ Eliminate or reduce consumption of beef; cattle ranching is one of the primary drivers of Amazon deforestation.

-When election time comes, VOTE for leaders who understand the urgency of our climate crisis and are willing to take bold action—including strong governance and forward-thinking policy.

The rich & famous are always motivated when it affects them.

It has long been my view that a farmer from the bush talking about how he/she has witnessed the effects of climate change on their property/work is worth 150 million Leo Di Caprios in getting average people to pay attention to this and do something about it.

I don't see DiCaprio handing out food & shelter to the homeless millions lying in the streets of his cities, in between his limousine rides to go and bang the latest supermodel he has on his agenda.

I'm generally very cynical of the rich & famous and their charity causes.

Yep, it is noblesse oblige at best and the ultimate virtue signalling at wort.

How crazy is it that when the Notre Dame was burning the media went nuts and millions of dollars were raised in hours. It’s taken 2 weeks of the Amazon burning to get noticed

The Amazon burns every summer and Notre Dame is one of the physical manifestations of Western culture. And THE manifestation of French culture - they give way more of a shit about Notre Dame than the Eiffel Tower.

It also burned totally unexpectedly.

Have you ever been there - where it sits in Paris, it burning was a physical shock.

And the most privileged are always the first to lecture people about privilege. The mind boggles.

Coptic Christian, the Egyptian symbol gives it away.

If you looking for ancient symbols of the swastika, you can find it in ancient Greek/Iranian/Hindu temples/iconography.

If you’re not sure:https://www.ancient-origins.net/myths-legends/symbol-swastika-and-its-12000-year-old-history-001312

"Every ancient culture"^ on earth has some representation of the swastika.

^ Within reasonable limits for "every". Seriously tho it turns up alot. I made that very comment over a beer at a mates once.

"We didn't" he said. And being a blackfella with an archealogy degree and work on a variety of sites he'd know.

Or so you'd think.

On the wall of his kitchen behind him was some artwork from somewhere and like alot of indigenous art it carried a combination of medical info and something along the line of chinese meridians or chi lines.

It was a picture of a goanna and there in the middle of the goanna - at the lower Dantein or the hara point is a swastika hidden among the swirling designs at that spot.

It turns up everywhere.

There are some esoteric sorts who tie the rapid rise and fall of nazi germany to its use of the swastika as a source of esoteric power and the fundamental rejection of them (the nazis) by universe for polluting it with cheap murder. I dunno about that myself but its an interesting take.

Also the swastika made up of two elder futhark Sowilo runes superimposed and 90deg off kilter to each other.

The idea is it represents the power of the sun and the energy of the sun driving/being responsible for all life on earth.

No. The most privileged are the only ones with acces to media repeatability.

they are usually late on the lecture list but it seems different cos the people who know what they are talking about rarely get listened to.

No, people shouldn't. If you get r*ped, call the police, collect physical evidence and put the person away. Having zero evidence and coming back 30 years later to make an accusation is a scenario I don't think it is possible to satisfy reasonable doubt no matter how compelling the testimony is.

If you think we should just believe any accusation, or even eyewitness testimony, then you must believe that Daw is guilty of the accusation that was levelled at him if you have any consistency in your beliefs.

Its a nice theory. We should be teaching it to 8 year olds in school don't you agree?

There’s also kids who are so embarrassed and ashamed that they never come forward. They just go inward and often go from bright happy kids to dark broken people.

Yeah. I've seen that happen too.

Of course no one would be happy with that scenario.

Do you actually know the process one has to go through to lay serious charges against someone? You make it sound so simple.

As I've mentioned last time Pell got found guilty, people very close to me have lived this personal experience. You don't just rock up to the cops and the next day they are charged. There were hours and hours of speaking to detectives, going over your statements multiple times in many interviews and that is just the victims. It took years of going back and forth. Police investigating, Detectives to Prosecutors, Prosecutors back to Detectives making sure they were convinced they had a case.

As I said before, nìave.

I know cases where the cops have flat out refused to get involved because they were protecting people. Multiple cases against the same groups of people.... Dunno how things are these days but up to a decade ago that shit happened regularly. As a result people would disappear for that sort of thing.

Indeed. The investigation AND process needs to be rigorous, or we end up with hellish things like this:

Unfortunately, libertarianism is in short supply these days, and people want short term political solutions for everything.

That's no more hellish than the many rapes that never get any justice. (Not only women that are getting r*ped either.) At least that bloke uis still alive 36 years later and will be free in public at some point.

Those cases are really ****en rare unless the black guy from 30 years pissed off the wrong cops. He's lucky they didn't shoot him. (Black men going for rape in the US in the past was always sus. Even with POS scum like Bill Crosby running around. Its an easy conviction to get trouble makers out of circulation forever.)

Yeah, it is obvious. Some people would have little hesitation stringing Pell up and forgetting about the rule of law entirely because they believe he is guilty, want him to be guilty or do not care if he is innocent because lets be realistic, even if he was innocent he has probably known of other priests molesting children and did nothing about bringing them to justice.

I know for a fact he did and have known for years. More than once.

(No it wasn't me. I was about 17 when I came across my first ever victim of some sort of sexual abuse and by the time I was turning 19 most of the people I knew were victims.  Some were friends I'd known for years who finally came out about it.)

You are getting emotional and making insulting claims because your argument is nonsensical.

A testimony can never be beyond reasonable doubt, you wouldn't like being sent to jail based on one, I wouldn't, nobody would. People on the jury have no way of knowing if the accusation was true or not no matter how compelling the testimony was.

If someone made the false allegation against you, you would be praying that there was someone on the jury who believed in burden of proof greater than you do for others.

What does "reasonable doubt" mean Tas?

Good times

1. The Amazon is burning

2. The Arctic's on fire

3. The Oceans are boiling

4. The Coral reefs are dying

5. Greenland is melting

6. Permafrost is collapsing

7. Antarctica is heating

8. Ecosystems are crashing

9. Earth is turning to desert

10. Emissions are accelerating

I've planted or been in nurseries that were repsonsible for millions of trees over the years. More than enough carbon sequestered as wood for my lifetime emissions, my kids and the rest of my family and probably a few of the posters here and their families too.

It shits me so much the way some people pissed away the future.

At some point I'll might have to hang Andrew Bolt from a light pole myself.

If it comes to that I'll hang the campaigner upside down and light a small fire under his head.

Leonardo DiCaprio has a strong passion for environmental activism. His longing to protect the environment is one that heavily influences his everyday life. He owns electric and hybrid cars and has even installed solar panels on his home. His personal life is filled with environmentally friendly alternatives to products that would normally cause harm to the earth. His passion also extends into his career – many humanitarian causes can be seen in the movies he’s been in like Blood Diamond and The 11th Hour, for example.
With that being said, here are five things DiCaprio has done for humanity:
  • The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation – DiCaprio has founded the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation. This foundation works to “protect Earth’s last wild places” while also “fostering a harmonious relationship between humanity and the natural world.” Established in 1998, LDF has worked on several significant environmental and humanitarian issues through grant making, campaigning, and media projects.
  • Wildlife preservation – World Wildlife Fund led a tiger habitat conservation effort in Nepal along with DiCaprio’s foundation that turned out to be quite successful. Prior to the event, DiCaprio held an auction which raised $39 million for this effort. This money fueled the effort even more so and allowed WWF to increase the number of tigers in Nepal by 63 percent. Other wildlife conservation efforts focus on endangered shark species and the preservation of rainforest habitats.
  • Ocean Health – Partnering with international funders, the collaborative Oceans 5 marked another great effort in humanitarianism and environmental improvement. Oceans 5 tackles the two highest ecological priorities: stopping overfishing and establishing marine reserves. Thanks to a generous grant, the organization was able to more easily combat these issues.
  • Providing Access to Clean Water – The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation’s grant to Concern Worldwide provided 430,000 people in Tanzania, Mozambique, Sierra Leone, and Darfur with access to clean water.
  • SOS Children’s Villages – Aside from working with the foundation, DiCaprio also takes interest in humanitarian work in film. In fact, while filming the movie Blood Diamond, DiCaprio worked with 24 orphaned children from SOS Children’s Villages. This independent organization provides family-based care for children with deceased or missing parents. They also support those deemed “vulnerable” through family strengthening programs, which focus on ensuring access to education, healthcare, and psycho-social support. In addition, SOS Children’s Villages offers emergency relief programs.

Possibly? I'd say definitely. The attempt to strip Indigenous people of their land failed in court so now they're taking the guerilla approach. Deforesting to make room to breed more ******* cows and keep destroying the planet.

Everyone should be aware that none of this would be happening if it wasn't for the political imprisonment of Luis Inacio Lula Da Silva, former president of brazil who brought millions out of poverty among other things, was leading by double digits in the polls before his arrest, and the judge behind his imprisonment went on to become Bolsonaro's justice minister, was later found to have been colluding with the prosecution and probably had ties to the CIA.

Well said mate.

**** all people know anything about any of this.

Its a ****en disgrace and one of the side effects is gonna be shitloads more deforestation.
