Well there ya go, you learn something new everyday :thumbsu:

Yeah, that's why I used the word "interesting". I've read and watched quite a bit of his stuff. While he never actually branded himself a libertarian per se, his work did indeed encompass many libertarian ideals.

When discussing libertarianism you have to be careful to differentiate. Like a few other political ideologies, libertarianism has been co-opted and subverted in some parts of the world. In this instance, it's the US right-wing that have taken a shine to it. Of course, this version of libertarianism doesn't bear a whole lot of resemblance to the original foundation of the ideology.

To quote good ol' Noam.....

"Libertarianism as it is understood in the United States is advocation of total tyranny, and the extreme opposite of what's been called libertairian in every other part of the world since Enlightenment."

"What’s called libertarian in the United States.....permits a very high level of authority and domination but in the hands of private power. So private power should be unleashed to do whatever it likes. The assumption is that by some kind of magic, concentrated private power will lead to a more free and just society. So that kind of libertarianism, in my view, in the current world, is just a call for some of the worst kinds of tyranny, namely unaccountable private tyranny."

life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness was stolen from the French and written into the US bill of rights.

It’s why libertinism resonates with Americans, problem is so many self centred people believe my rights are more important than yours.
My rudimentary understanding (combined with a bit of life experience) tells me that this is pretty much how the world works at it's very core.

Which in turn lead me to find an appreciation of panpsychism philosophy and it's personal relevance to my generally shitty outlook at the moment ;)

Janet Albrechtsen called herself a libertarian once.

And I'm pretty sure that in the same interview she criticised the use of pill testing kits for sending the wrong message.

It certainly didn't start with him, but the acquittal of Trump marks a further stage in the descent of the US from Republic to true empire.

Really, what was the point of the impeachment proceedings? Here's a guy who is guilty of basically everything they charged him for, but the process is so corrupted that the issue of guilty or not guilty is essentially irrelevant.

I suspect Pelosi wanted to nail the Republicans to Trump once and for all. Especially in the Senate.

It could be a lose the battle but win the war strategy come November. If there's a "blue wave" and they take the Senate too ...

You're probably right. Yet another politician brazenly unconcerned by spending tens of millions of taxpayer dollars to fund their personal political ambition.

Given what the US deficit is running at, chicken feed.

That would’ve worked if the democrats let democracy take its place. the party elites still think they own the party and can and choose who’ll be candidate.
the people will walk away if they don’t have a progressive candidate.

I guess that’s why Lt Buttigieg went all my chemical romance in his victory speech.

Client rang our office this morning. (Not my client)

"About my 11am meeting today.

Just wanted to let you know about my condition. I spontaneously projectile vomit and have uncontrollable diarrhea.

SHOULD BE FINE THOUGH."

He's here now. The girl running the meeting looked like she was walking the mile.

Pray for Smaturin and his tiny office.

There’s a school of thought that the reason they don’t impeach him (or previous presidents) on serious issues that are actually worthy of impeachment is because they’re all complicit in some way. You should check out the Jimmy Dore show.
